Do you play bullet hells with a keyboard or a controller?

I've been playing with a controller from the start because it feels more comfortable, I know that in theory you could get quicker movements by keeping four fingers on the buttons for the four directions (like on a leverless controller) but I still haven't felt the need to "upgrade" yet.
If you're looking for a controller to try out, I can recommend the 8bitdo M30. It's really cheap (you can get it from aliexpress for less than 20 bucks) and almost as good as the best controller I've tried so far, the retrobit saturn pro, which costs at least twice as much.

For the M30 I use this program, which lets me map the inputs to keyboard presses. It's like the famous joy2key but it's got less input lag.

(I had to add a custom mapping for the M30 to work, so let me know if you want to give it a try and I'll post it)

Once I had the program running, I set the buttons up as on pic related. I usually use the right bumper to shoot, but I've assigned Z to A as well so I had an easier to mash backup for PoDD and PoFV.
Mapping stuff to the keyboard is great because it means you don't have to remap stuff inside each game separately.

Just comfort. The usual layout when playing with a keyboard (be it WASD or keys) requires moving your middle finger up and down to press the key to move up or the one to move down, which, at least to me, feels less comfortable than simply sliding my thumb towards the direction I want to go.
The theoretically optimal layout involves having the four movement keys placed along a line or an arc so you can keep one finger on each (like on a leverless controller, pic related) and press them when needed without any awkward motions, but it's something that requires getting used to.

Well, a 3-4 loss is unfortunate, but it was still a fun match, I guess the defense wasn't the right one out of the two. Our losing streak to /gbpen/ in unofficial matches continues.
