Cinematically, the swap between animation styles worked very well and it's very thematically fit as a past -> present transition. Too bad Mei doesn't even show up so it's like a torch gets dropped rather than anyone being passed to.

The Golden Courtyard event before the Vampire Survivors rehashed EE yet again and ironically, it just shows Mei to be useless because it managed to do it wholesale without Mei being relevant. It shits on Mei by depicting an alternative version without her that's no different. It cements her as pointless in the original.

I think it's 'fine', it's well made and all, but personally, it didn't leave much of an impact for me when it's just 'oops all elysia'. The rest of the FCs appear, but they basically only serve as cheerleaders while Ely solos the HoC, which was kind of a letdown. Also like the other guy said Mei doesn't have any presence either, I guess they really wanted Ely to blow up the simulation, but it would've been really easy to just write it so that Mei gets kicked out since she's an outsider, or make some other excuse to keep her alive.
My annoyances with it also broadly apply to ER/EE as well funnily enough

I don't know about PGR, but apparently the combat is pretty similar to Honkai the Third?
What's special and different about Honkai has always been how character focused it is and how gay said characters are. If you don't want a sitcom with a cast that gets thrown out after a while like you take out the trash and if you're at least okay with yuri, Honkai might be for you.

The game was good when there was censorship. You'll end up angry at swimsuits, lack of male characters, and addition of yuri instead of heterosexual. HI3 failed to be profitable. They halved (from 11 to 6) the number of copies you need to sss a gacha character so whales have less to spend too. These are bad things because characters like Vita who made 3.2 million could've made 7-8 million from whales. Add 50/50s, a widely beloved feature that other Hoyo has, and it would go even higher. HI3 needs to learn from successor games and have lower rates and 50/50s instead of all these guarantees and letting you craft stigmatas with cubes. Add beloved censorship, male characters, and remove the hated yuri for profit.

This is exactly how this works.

HI3 is a small game made for a small target audience while new Hoyo games are big games made for the masses. They tried to appeal with HI3 to casual audience with the beginning of Part 2, but it backfired spectacularly.

It's similar with Kuro Games where PGR is a dark sci-fi game made for small fanbase while WuWa is sterilized to oblivion harem slop made for normies. They tried to make WuWa much more darker in the first beta tests, but it was too much for casuals so they completely changed the tone of the whole game so it would sell.

Elysian Realm up to Part 2's first few chapters probably had more suit oversight, though, seeing as Elysia was practically made with mass market appeal in mind (Mei being the POV character and Elysia being flirty with her a.k.a. the viewer), but the quality has been steadily on the rise as well as male DS being deleted and yuri becoming more prevalent, perhaps indicating that there's less oversight now.

I've also used Sauron as an analogy for this. Imagine that right before the battle of the black gate that Sauron suddenly dies offscreen and some random thing from nowhere shows up to replace him. You don't establish a final boss villain from the start and then bait and switch it for something else completely different right before the end.

The 14th Herrscher also suffered from this. She turned out to be a complete nobody after everyone thought she was the PE Kiana.

Could they have done Coralie's death better? I don't think so.

With Coralie's fake death along with the intervention of Revenge Spirit, Helia was allowed to be reframed and given depth of character, giving her more than just "The hardworking one".

With Coralie's return, Helia was able to come back to a sort of "home", making it so that her arc wouldn't be longer than it needed to be.

I can't think of how much better they could've made Coralie's death since it allowed a better look into the cosmology without being overbearing, as well as being able to explore Coralie as a character through her revival.

TL;DR I liked Coralie and Helia's arcs.

This. GRRM realized that Robb was kicking too much ass and handed Tywin a magic teleporting device which let him get to the Tyrells and back before Blackwater was done. One of the biggest problems with the cocoon is that its criteria for accepting Kiana as a host is only about how compatible with Herrscher authorities she is, which has nothing to do with her humanity and what kind of person she is. For everyone's efforts and sacrifices, whether anyone survived or not was always depending on whether there is one person who can accept multiple Herrscher powers at once...which again has nothing to do with human nature. The cocoon was willing to accept Kevin too, and he's a completely different person from Kiana, meaning the cocoon doesn't care about human nature. It might as well judge Kiana by how many Honkai beasts she can summon at once or something arbitrary like that.

For a story that focuses so much on human nature, the most important element doesn't care for it at all.

Why can't HI3 be more profitable like HSR? By reusing game maps, using text narration instead of animated cutscenes, using open source AI to machine translate scripts into other languages, not recording voiceover for events, reusing bosses and enemies, AI-generating character designs, re-running old events, consolidating character budget onto only dev favorites, removing character quests, removing 4* and other free to obtain characters, hiring SEA vocalists, outsourcing narrative development to player popularity polls, and selling character skins from the Unity asset store, adding lots of profitable censorship, male characters, removal of yuri, these are all key to profits. This is EFFICIENT and PROFITABLE. HI3 neglects vital and beloved profit features like 50/50s, halving (from 11 to 6) the number of copies you need to sss a gacha character so whales have less to spend on, and instead puts too much effort into making skins that would've been more efficient if they were low effort recolors and don't even require separate purchases but can be earned through luck or spending events that count crystals, even tickets, instead of needing $300 separately..

For starters, the peak of the game is considered to be the Herrscher of Domination arc for having massive payoff for a ton of important character development and Elysian Realm is after this peak. But specifically, if you ask past anons who've done recent playthroughs, the very concept is flawed in it introduced a ton of new characters at once without enough time to develop them and you're supposed to feel more about the tragedy than any deep characterization or development. But the execution is flawed regardless of concept. Structurally, it's a conveyor belt style where each new Flame Chaser is introduced, has maybe a small arc (I'm being generous calling them enough to be a character arc), then dumped and onto the next one.

On individual characters, Elysia herself is a very make or break and love or hate character. And if you don't like her then the whole arc and next ones fail. It'd take a whole other post to describe in detail.

Starts off by needing to establish too much worldbuilding. It's bad at the beginning but there are so many straight up shit arcs like EE and Moon that fuck at least it's not that level. It's survivable and soon gets into decent character development. It helps it it goes a direction ER/EE never does and instead of hyperfocusing on one character, it gives a chance for others to develop.

Also, ignore the troll saying he wants APHO. APHO's self-insert MC having all the girls be useless and fall on his dick is a precise example of not being Honkai but being GI or HSR. Pressure him on anything "how" and you'll find he can't back up anything.

Sonque and Thelema relationship is cute and chapter 3 is kinda cinema with intresting bossfight
Helia and Coralie arc hits on a personal level and cover the theme of being a normal person in a world where main characters are made to be special, while feeling useless.
Helia and Coralie are also really cute with clear yuri pandering.
Part 2 would have been doomed if they stuck with male protag option.
Vita is also really a good character and Leylah is a nice bully bait.

Also NTA and since I dropped HSR when it was somewhere in Penacony, I'm unaware of any actual connection to HI3 in HSR. I know many say the Welt is the same as in HI3, but I never noticed. There are easter eggs about Honkai in Shart Trail and that's all about it, really. Sparkle had a cameo which really wasn't more than that. Bita fucks her.
Honkai, Shart Trail and Genshit are all a connected multiverse (to put it simple), but you may do the sensible thing and pretend that other mass market slop doesn't exist and you wouldn't miss a thing.
Part 2 gets better as time goes on. The start was very bad, it seemed like Honkai was trying to become more like the other games, with a Dreamseeker who was almost a self-insert, who could even be a guy, it started with a lot of exposition that didn't go anywhere and shallow characters. The breaking point was when Ajita identified the mere possibility of a male self-insert as a mistake in the system. After this, the Dreamseeker developed an own agency, she became more of a POV and less of an MC, characters got room to breathe, most notably Helia and Coralie. Helia especially turned from some bland girl with insecurities who takes everything too seriously into a grown valk of her own. She also fucks dogs (one dog, but you get the point. okay, one dragon...).
Part 2 is still on an upwards trajectory, things get more tense again right now. Basically what this anon says >>563366043
At this point, you can clearly see the direction in Part 2. Perhaps one point of note is that Part 2's world is highly unstable because Sea of Data stuff which made a lot of the early chapters even more confusing than they already were despite all the worldbuilding that was going on for far too long.

Part 2 is boring as fuck compared to part 1 with all its hype moments and worldbuilding. Part 2 has no aura. No epic concepts like Herrschers and MANTIS and Schicksal and AE and Divine Keys and more. It literally doesn't have main antagonist at all, certainly no one like Otto. It's just slowly exploring a computer program of an already extinct planet, a computer that's going to be abandoned as soon as the Mars arc ends.

Definitely useless. Most of the Divine Keys have 0 plot relevance or are weapons used by characters that could've NOT been them easily like Himeko's suit she used to fight HoV. You forgot to mention wholesale retconned away weapons too like Jizo.
Shus are basically nuFCs combining Herrschers and useless as fuck MANTIS who are just another name for Honkai infused characters just like the Vodka Twins, like Teri Teri and just as replaceable.
And Herrschers are among the worst because their lore got fucked up hundreds of times over to the point they're a mark of shame in spite of being fundamental to the plot. Elysia did so much bad to them on every level from thematically to character to just everything.

I liked the military scifi setting of p1 a lot. Giant flying battleships, mechs, armoured battlesuits, and lots and lots of guns. I liked the political situation of how the world was divided between Schicksal and AE. The manhua helped with this a lot. Very Code Geass-esque. The Cocoon again if that counts. HI3 an Mihoyo properties tend to have a bunch of antagonists for each arc or reveal more as the story goes. Litost is responsible for a lot of why Leylah's the way she is but he's just trying to force her to adapt to a bad situation.Leylah herself is an antagonist but closer to a confused out of control girl than a deliberate sinister mastermind. At least they didn't build up to the Will of Honkai being the final villain only to reveal it never existed before Prometheus made it then making a side villain like Kevin the final boss. CN widely agreed Kevin is vastly inferior to Otto as a villain.

The goal of the first chapters were to find a solution to Kiana's condition and rediscover how Mars got ruined. The first dives were about the Shadow Calamity that destroyed everything and exploring a more post apocalyptic setting where outside Oxia most is gone. Through that you learn more about the Shadows, which is basically the Honkai for Mars, eventually leading to their commander Leylah and her connection to DS. From there it's Leylah into Senadina and how they came, The end goal is still the cocoon how it manifests even if it did it different than Earth. The simulation travel goes further back in time to grab the root of how it became this way.

Funny how Mars itself is irrelevant. The real point of part 2 was always just Kiana (all that fanfare about her story being over and moving on from her turned out to be BS) and the cocoon. Kevin was a never a great character. He was introduced in the story in chapter 12, and didn't do anything interesting until chapter 17 when he took advantage of Mei's emotional weakness to get her into WS. After that, he went back to do nothing interesting until chapter 32. Even his sim doesn't grant much more insight into his character's personality because he acts the same even with his friends alive. The only thing worth pitying is how badly written and wasted potential he is while being a disappointing final boss.

He was completely disconnected from everything he fought for as a result and this is why he could never succeed. ER told us a lot about him, it told us that he's barely human, he's almost robotic.

Read the Second Key manhua. Kevin is a good character there. He's written as a tragic character who lost almost everything and everyone he cared about. He was a hero who fell and became a villain. He's supposed to be sympathetic. He has writing flaws and comes nowhere close to Otto as a villain, but he's still much better than having no big bad at all. This story will never have a villain remotely as good as Otto again.

A big problem about much of the PE characters and especially the Flame Chasers is people are more in love with their concept than anything specific to their character. Most do not get any deep characterization or screen time and get reduced to Elysia cheerleader anyway. Most of them only get clout because they are Flame Chasers, like a celebrity that's popular for being popular or being in a popular group, than any merit of their character writing on their own. Many are practically filler or could be swapped out for another character and it'd be no different for the overall plot.

Whatever you heard, all is extremely exaggerated by people who never touched HI3 in their life (you should all keep it that way) and only "heard" things (mostly from people who also never played HI3 in their life).
Kevin in HI3 is like that one overpowered figure in animes that others mostly see as that. However, the wank he supposedly has in HI3, or his importance, once more, is extremely exaggerated!
