>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as Age of Decadence, A Hat in Time, Axiom Verge, Baba Is You, Battle Brothers, Battlerite, Card City Nights 2, Cave Story, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkwood, DashBored, Dead Cells, The Desolate Hope, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Guacamelee!, Hollow Knight, Knytt, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Machinarium, Middens, Monolith, Monster Train, Noita, OFF, OneShot, Rimworld, Rain World, Slap City, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, Tooth and Tail, Underrail, VA-11 HALL-A, Yume Nikki, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, Rayman, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle games are cool too.
Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.
>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

Oh for sure, I'm fully aware that it's my own fault for settling so high up. I mean just looking at >>562727264 you'll see how the snowmelt has already started down in the valley, while up here it's still freezing.
But I'm pretty sure I'll spend this year building a boat and gathering supplies to sailing south.
Because I would love to build a cool medieval style house but I don't think it would fit in with my stone/bronze age hut.

I forgot to say before that I'd already seen a satyr in the first area that does the single attack per turn thing. Not sure if there's separately a single action per turn one, but it's a challenge to figure a way around at some point I guess. I just had the "scale much faster than you" slap me in the face for the first time. Didn't realize that on depth 38 (first time through Eternity's End) the dudes were already 60 and I'm like 44. Just means I can go level somewhere and see if I can find any other neat variants of things.

I remember fondly finding out about F.E.A.R. Rattata for the first time. I'm already leaning into the abject faggotry that is the Cleric stuff I've chosen. Pic kinda related. It's the slappening. They look like I normally do, minus the shells and minions.

If you build your team well, you can avoid so called run killers. To me Siralim Ultimate is more like single player modern Yugioh where the archetypes can slot in certain engines/ cards that help them deal with unideal situations. Like say I'm a combo deck in Yugioh and I run into a backrow guy, that's where my Harpie Feather Duster comes in. The Siralim equivalent is something like: say I'm x type of deck that will literally brick if I'm inflicted with y type of debuff, that's where my monster who has a Generous Spreading Plague gemstone equipped comes in clutch.

Oh shit, Road to Vostok release totally snuck up on me out of nowhere. Been following this since it's been a basic tech demo on a gun range as part of next fest.
Shame that according to the few negative reviews it has it's still very undercooked. Tempted to try it anyways, because it's so cheap, has anyone already played it?

Just beat Clair Obscur. Quite a good game that deserves most of the praise it receives, aside from the completely unnecessary and harmful parry system, which tanked the combat. Still, I grit through it and got a satisfying conclusion. I'll be looking forward to Sandfall's next project, so long as it isn't infested by QuickTime events
>>
Just started Clair Obscur. What a horrible game that depresses me and makes me feel bad about being 35. Why is the slowdown not on by default? Timing dodges is very hard, I literally need to retry every boss at least twice to learn their timings. I'll be looking forward to the porn with Maelle getting buttfucked, so long as it is infested with no lube, dry mode.

I'm REALLY liking this game
It's a word game like boggle except it's a Roguelike that's entirely centered around wildcards
Each wildcard has its own rules like there's numbers that can only be placed into that letter position (so for example you can write 1RI45)
Or there are chess pieces that can only connect by following chess rules
And in a balatro like manner you buy upgrade and multipliers that only works under specific condition like using only numbers or the more kind of wildcards you use the better
The game actively encourage you to write bullshit all made up of wildcards and for an ESL like me it who's not very good at these sort of games it feels very cathartic to see the game go "the fuck did you wrote? DISCOMBOBULATED?"

The story mode is only for lore you likely won't care for and literally nothing else. Just play the mode where you jump right into the dungeon as it has everything unlocked that you were supposed to grind for.

Dark souls 3 the ringed city is a kino ending for the trilogy imo, but id recommend playing ashes of ariendel first for the chronological order as some part of the lore is referenced to or part of main plot points.

I dunno what dragonkins are to dragons but they're probably losers and chumps.
>>
>>
>>562893261
Runescape's dragons are a bit unusual lorewise.
Dragonkin are the original draconic race. They're incredibly powerful, strong enough to go toe to toe with lesser gods, and they live practically forever. However, they're not immortal and they can't reproduce, so they ran lots of genetic experiments in an attempt to fix that. Dragons are the failed product of those experiments - they're able to reproduce, but they're mindless beasts and orders of magnitude weaker physically than Dragonkin.
I don't know when Dragonwilds takes place, but iirc there are only 3 or 4 surviving Dragonkin by the time of Runescape.

In my limited understanding, Dragonwilds take place before Runescape proper: the war between gods is over, and the dragons are the main threat, but the maharadjahs aren't an issue.
It's complicated, I play this coop with a friend and he was terrorized when we found dragonkin stuff.

It's Monk's Fortified Spirit perk that buffs your defense after doing your counter attacks from dodging (Celerity Strikes). The Wisp has godly dodge and pulls the aggro of all attacks during a fight, so the longer it goes on, the more it snowballs out of control.

I never said anything about not finding cattail.
I wanted to have another realistic tech path that I could do even IRL instead of a system of gated progression with zero horizontal breadth. If the game start is gonna be about weaving baskets why are you stuck using a specific shitty material for it when you have tools to cut down birch trees and split the logs? I bet the rest of it is going to be as linear and nonsensical.
Also if the game simulated getting wet, cold and ruining your clothes more realistically, then going waist-deep into every pond to gather reeds definitely wouldn't be the smartest early play.
0/10 inadequate as mongolian basket weaving simulator

You can do that at the start of copper age since the biggest tech requirement is a saw for planks. There's two ways to make parchment. You can use fiber pulp from flax and a sieve. Or if you already have lime/borax for leathermaking, shearing scraped hides also works and saves your flax.

Completely exploredThe Resonance Archivesfor the first time. I had gotten there once before, but I was woefully underprepared back then. Now I had everything I needed and knew what to take with me on the journey.
Gotta say it was amazing. These major story locations are just insane. Overwhelming in scope, detail and the lore. Vintage Story really is at its best when you can just chill, build, progress and enjoy the nature at your own pace, but these adventures are a nice contrast to that.
Also my autism compelled me to bring ALL the lorebooks back home. Yes I know they're copied to your journal. It took only a few trips. There's still some loot left to bring back to my home collections...
>>
>>
>>562981763
Yeah, I'm really strapped for flax right now. I've only gotten a small harvest in last year and most of it was stunted by the cold and my main priority was to just fix up all my clothes with it and make some torches.
Also my main priority for parchment is making a book, because I really like the idea of having a notebook where I note down what I did in each session and what I plan to do in the next. I've heard someone suggest to do this for these kind of sandbox games to play them more intentionally and get more enjoyment out as a result, really want to try it.
Though I think books also need leather, if memory serves right.
>>562982373
Skimming over this, I have to say I've never much cared for the story locations, because it's all work in progress and so on. But you have piqued my curiosity just a bit.
Are they difficult? I assume there's lots of enemies, what kind of armor/weapons did you bring?
>>
File: 1751198631456856.png (578.8 KB)

I think I'm gonna spend the next few seasons hanging out at home. Too tired from all the running back and forth. Chiseling details here and there is fun, even a basic 2x1 tunnel can look much nicer when you make it look a larger tunnel in progress. Too bad you can't leave pickaxes on the path floor.
>>562983738
The first story location is 100% finished and so are ones after it.
There aren't actually that many enemies. Normal random spawns don't happen in story locations. The enemy encounters are more scripted and meaningful in nature.
The reason my last attempt didn't work out wasn't due to bad combat gear but lack of supplies. This time I brought a bed, kitchenware, enough food for a month, more meds and four double chests for loot.
As far as weapons and armor go I was waaaay overgeared. Meteoric iron falx and 2 sets of armor, the usual everyday leather and steel chain which I ended up wearing only twice.
>>
Anyone else have an issue with Starsector where it randomly eats 100% of your GPU and slows the game down to <5 FPS until a restart? Sometimes it happens in the main menu the moment the game boots, but mostly happens with battles once the deployment window closes, but never the same battle twice.
>>
>>562986547
Does it actually eat 100% of your GPU? Fans spinning up like mad and so on? Or does it just leave the GPU in some kind of desktop powersaving mode where it doesn't have the oomph to do much of anything?

The game told me I'm allowed to make 11x11x11 charcoal pits so that's exactly what I'm going to do.
In hindsight that might have been slightly optimistic, but I needed a quarry and a place to start dumping excess firewood. On the plus side, the echo in this chamber was amazing before I started filling it with firewood. Should also give me a lifetime supply of coal in a few years when it's filled and fired.
>>
>>562988813
Yep, from 20-40% normal usage (it's an oldass 1060) up to 100%, and from ~35*C up to ~60*C if I let it run too long.
>>562988849
I do have mods, but this has happened for years (since 0.91) with several different modlists.
>>
>I think I'm gonna spend the next few seasons hanging out at home
Sounds cozy, especially if you have shit to do. I always struggle with Year 0 winter, because by then I've usually just about set up the basics and after a few days of clay forming there's little I can actually do during the long nights.
As for the story location, I'll definitely check those out sometime.
>>562989440
Even with my 3x3x2 pit I underestimate how much wood it takes to fill up every single time. Don't even want to imagine the swaths of deforested land you'll leave in your wake.
>>
>>562990432
My old charcoal pit is 3x4x3 because that much firewood neatly fits into two 16 and 20 slot crates.
I don't actually deforest anything. There would be no point trying to collect this massive amount of wood from distant forests because inventory space severely limits your logistics.
I have a section of forest dedicated to renewable wood production right above both the charcoal pits. There's space for about 100 trees and I replant new ones immediately after cutting them.

My favorite part about the metroidvania style castlevania is learning about a glitch and then exploiting it in every way possible to skip as much as possible just because I can. More often than not, I need to reset my emulator but sometimes I manage to do stuff like instantly getting all souls in dawn of sorrow and skipping half the bosses (I do them later) or currently seeing how far I can get without entering portraits. I somehow managed to zip to the end of tower of death.
Reverse boss order is a classic of metroidvania style games.

1. punching does very little damage
2. punching doesn't actually give you HP, being near an enemy when they bleed out does
3. getting hit lowers your max HP for a few seconds, so standing right next to an enemy and trying to punch them to death won't work against tougher enemies
4. punching is also a parry

it's an autobattler with units similar to classic RTSes. unlike most autobattlers, you cannot move your units after you place them (with some exceptions), so you slowly build up your board over time. the balance and aesthetics are pretty good overall. past the start of the game, all random options are offered to both players which allows you to predict your opponent's move. there are a bunch of techs for units which adds some limited buildcrafting to the game. there are no microtransactions except skins, you just play it.

Or maybe I'll just store the cuttings until I move further south, since I was planning to anyways, and this won't fruit in quite a while, considering it needs the 250h of sub 2˚C temp

The road network continues.
Building down steep slopes is very time consuming, if you want to find a natural looking path. That's why I build it in disjointed segments if I know that there is a certain part of the slop where the road definitely needs to go to.
Also pretty much reached the flatlands in the south so it should be easy to expand from there.

More than I care to count. A stack of stones gives you 16 road blocks, so at a width of 2 that's only 8 blocks of road.
I have a few sources for them though. Picrel is one of two mine entries that I deliberatley built this wide and hollow to double as a quarry. In addition I've just started digging an actual quarry. And also there is a bottomless pit right next to my house that I've sunk some ladders into. I haven't been able to reach the bottom yet, but I've used it as a starting point to a small networks of tunnels that might be a fun alternative way to traverse the island.
Truth be told I underestimate how much resources this would take, but in for a penny, in for a pound I suppose. And honestly for how simple it is to build it feels very satisfying to see my road snake through the land or open the map and see the mark I've made on this place. Plus it does make navigating some of the hilly and foresty areas a lot more convenient

Even if they sky is different (e.g. south hemisphere), the procedure is the same:
- Find the spot that doesn't move (the planet's rotational axis)
- Note its direction
- Memorize the "landmarks" among the nearby stars.Don't pick any planets; they're too fucking close so they move a ton.

Hard to say, I'm sticking to the demo, the game is still in early access. I do appreciate that you're not restricted to just moving goods, you can also fish, and since you have a gun, I assume they plan combat?
But so far, it feels like a game that focuses on the physics, kinda like Cooking Simulator., which makes it more busy than Sea of Thieves, but also a lot more autistic.
I'd tell you more about it, but I'm really sleepy, so I'll talk to you later, okay?

Boys, the Bronze Age is saved!
Honestly really lucky find. Had to dig through two layers of rock that can't host Bismuth and busted out my prospecting pick the second I hit slate, to detect this bad boy. Only 25 medium chunks but that should keep me going for a bit, plus I'm sure I'll find more if I'll keep digging through the slate layer
>>563172932
I don't think I've ever made it past the Bronze Age. Iron requires a windmill for a pulverizer, right? Not sure where that is on the agenda since my top priority for this year is building a boat and explore for a potential new place to settle.
>>
>>
>>563182296
>Iron requires a windmill for a pulverizer, right?
Wut? No
The main difference is that crucibles can't get hot enough to smelt iron nuggets so you need to bloomeries.
To build those you need fireclay so go dig up a clay deposit or two. If you don't have any fireclay deposits you can make by mixing other clays with with calcined flint powder, which you can smelt+grind from flint stones. That is slow so takes a lot of fuel, about half a stack of brown coal per stack of flint.
>>
>>563182479
Not quite, every or has c chance to drop a crystalized chunk (instead of a regular one), but at the moment they're all just a reskin of this. I don't actually have one for Bismuth though.
>>563182928
Oh lel, what the fuck?
No idea what in the guide I misread earlier today to give me that impression. Makes sense though, I think I might even have some good spots to set up an iron mine.
As for fire clay, it's good to know you can make it yourself. I remember finding lots of it back in the day on older worlds but haven't seen any in a while, I wonder if they made it rarer or it just depends on certain climate zones I'm not in right now.

Cozy mud hut. I've never built much in stone age style because the door and window options are indeed terribly limited. And FYI you can also mount slabs in any orientation.
Trapdoors are pretty useful for all sorts of low effort decoration.
Storm shutters? Trapdoors. They're too wide for 1x1 windows but, eh, the texture looks the part and they add some depth to otherwise flat walls.

1. That tree literally spawned your climate so it's fine. And it won't immediately explode if exposed to colder than average winter. Only the yearly average temperatures and rainfall matter.
2. The 250h figure means it needs winter to vernalize, so it wouldn't even work in a warmer climate. If you plant a new tree cutting it'll take years to grow big whether it's a vernalizing tree or not, so better get started yesterday. And do collect all the cuttings you can get, most of them will fail no matter what you do.

It's good, I like it, but I do prefer the first one more simply because of the atmosphere. The turn-based gameplay and additional survivors kinda dulls the oppressive, all-encompassing *grime* that 1 had. But gameplay wise, it's still the fight-loot-recycle-upgrade loop transferred to a TBS format, with an inventory system that doesn't make me want to shit myself. One branching tunnel downward instead of 8 themed sectors, but still handmade maps. Combat is kinda bullshit (likely intentionally) but workable. Still satisfying to hit the next tier of gear and shitstomp the earlier enemies. A lot more overtly sci-fi compared to 1, with nanites and cybernetics and all that, but you still gotta live off cockroach bars and cactus water. RPG elements are a little weird, you upgrade stats with use, but there's barely feedback for it, and you also have a general player level for getting perks (and upping the infection level, if you set that option) that have their own separate levels that go up with use.
I've put ~5 hours into it already, but half of that is just the prologue before you actually start going down into the mine. There's a lot of talking and running back and forth, but the latter is literally the entire gameplay loop anyway.

I can't even wrap my head about what's being asked of me here, the game has pretty much conditioned me into every code being a date and the last note in the room mention the 8 king which I assume to be Desilest IV, but why I have the date of his father's death I don't have this one.
I've been going through all my notes all over, rewatched every cutscene, wrote down some binary numbers, I know what to do with the key inside and what is most likely found in the chest it opens, the only other thread I have is something about blank books and water (I have an idea for that but the watering can hasn't showed up for me to experiment), and the CASTLE writing on a wall that I have tried to put together using others letters I found but it's both incomplete as well as complete gibberish, and I assume was a hint for the puzzle in the room before.
I'm getting a bit tired, everything in my last 60 or so hours has felt like looking for needle in a haystack sort of clues whereas the game was really fun up until that point when every discovery led to another. Things have become less logical the further I am, and instead of requiring you to sit down and rethink your interpretation of some thigs, it's become more and more about making sure you've found every single randomly scattered note and items, which is a bit of a pain with the nature of game and I already spent the last 3 days drafting treasure troves and blue rooms on rank 8 to farm clues.
It's a good game but I have a feeling that I'm in the discord community effort part of the game that tends to ruin these sort of games (looking at you, Animal Well and Tunic), and once again I have no way of knowing that.

While watching this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zb2bfBon6zE I think out of all the crafting/building games I have played, only Chinese Frontiers have the step-by-step building that is more "realistic".
Now it would be great if we could get that granularity and autism of building coupled with a good open world crafting survival slop.
And yes, I would love to do stuff like that IRL, but I'm a poorfag living in a big city in a extremely very deforested area. Also the buildings techniques used around here in the medieval period was mainly adobe and rammed earth in Roman/Arab style.

Kinda, yes. But in VS you don't to first place the stakes and then do the wattle to finish applying daub. And that kind of microcrafting in general. You don't even need to mix water and straw/grass into dirt to do buildings.
>>
>>
>>563287984
There is in fact a mod exactly for that in VS, in my game the only reason I havent yet done it is because I had to get clay for daub and copper molds n storages take precedence over pimping my mud hut.

Yeah, wattle and daub was added to the main game a while ago. It feels a bit larpy, because at the end of the process you just get a regular block so there is no functional reason to doing it, but I still think it's fun.

Is this bait? Wattle&daub, cob, strewn straw, etc are in the base game.
It still has Minecraft dirt blocks but you can't even just use them to build anything if your world has gravity & sideways instability on for soil blocks. I recommend turning it (and cave-ins) on. Nowadays you can easily change worldgen settings like this from a menu *after* starting a world.

I'm personally really curious about if they'll come up with a way to replace the 3x3 crafting grid with something more immersive, at least that's what they say they would like to try in the roadmap.
In general I think VS needs to strike a very tricky balance between realism and fun. Which isn't made easier by the fact that those two are somewhat subjective.

Thanks for the suggestion, that's a nice looking ladder/stair thing. But is it smoothly traversible without jumping? Function always comes before form in my survival builds.
Anyways, I don't want to fuck around with beams in this case if I can avoid it. Maybe after crowbars are added.
I already got the general shape of it like I want, a full enclosed wood staircase with step-by-step handrails and a newel post for each step. Ideally I would like to make the step gradient even less steep but there isn't enough space in the house for that.
My main problem is texturing it. Right now the side panel is just continuous debarked birch, the big vertical support beam is debarked oak and the steps are pine planks. I need to find at least a matching horizontal wood texture for the handrails, something for a decorative head on the newel posts and probably something for soffit/stringer. Unless I make the handrail with beams and convert to balusters from newel posts.
I have been struggling to find wood colors that have enough saturation for this staircase, The railings don't pop out enough against the cobble wall with my usual palette of local materials. And I haven't found any traders selling wallpapers.
The exterior of the house looks pleasant with its muted color palette showing generations of material improvement (claystone ground floor, old-looking oak 2nd floor, newer look on the more saturated pine wood on the attic, topped off with almost modern-looking tan ceramic shingle roof) but interior has been harder to get right with the fucking claystone.

I bet they'll never completely replace the minecraft crafting grid, but they'll slowly move more and more stuff away from it to either external crafting stations or voxel minigames. Many mods already do this.
Which is unfortunate. Ideally I would like to see the crafting grid system completely gone, replaced by another in-inventory crafting system that differentiates tools and materials. Because there is a major logical difference between tools and materials. Materials are consumed by the recipe, tools are not. And also because right now there is a shit ton of grid crafting recipes that have a bunch of tools + materials in them and they're annoying to use. Did this hammer go to the left of the chisel instead of on top of it? Where do I put the saw again? *checks handbook* Just let me keep my tools in inventory.
Countless games have already solved this with a list of crafting recipes, but VS still suffers from its MC heritage.
The grid worked for MC where crafting is evocative rather than literal. And VS very much wants its crafting to be realistic and detailed rather than "this 3x3 shape kinda resembles thing so it makes thing"
>>
>>563297226
>a list of crafting recipes,
That's one of the things I don't understand of either MC or VS.
Why have a crafting grid at all if you have the recipes given ingame?
I would rather have a nicely done handy crafting recipe than either a crafting grid with recipes outside of it, or a crafting grid with an awkward list of recipes on the side.
>>
>>563298151
MC didn't originally have a recipe book. It only had simple evocative recipes, basic enough to guess and remember. This worked well, but the ever-increasing complexity from scope creep necessitated the addition of an in-game recipe book. Otherwise players would be playing a wiki, not the game.
But VS, VS was never in a position where having the evocative grid crafting system made sense. They should have dumped it when vintagecraft became its own game.
>>
>>563298947
>MC didn't originally have a recipe book.
I've been playing Minecraft since '09. And I still see no reason to have a recipe list or have a wiki open once you have learned the crafting positions. Learning the recipes from heart seemed like a feature, but now MC has been casualized to fuck.
I do if you play modpacks with a bazillion recipes though. There's a reason NEI/JEI/TMI got popular.

>But is it smoothly traversible without jumping?
The steps are 8 microblock high the same normal slabs/stairs. You can climb 9 mb high without jumping. They can be any width.
>My main problem is texturing it.
You can add rotatable blocks in any direction for multiblock chiseling, but it's pretty roundabout.
You need to place down your log or whatever sideway then turn it into a chiseled block.
Then pick it up and pick up your chiseled stairs
Put them into your crafting grid, whichever block you want to keep (the stairs) should go above the other.
Put back the stairs and when you should be able to pick your sideways logs in the material picker. You can add the same type of block in all direction to the same chiseled block this way (Upright ones you can add normally obviously.)
And yes, if you want to do this in creative you have to change the gamemode to survival to access the crafting grid. 1.22 should allow you to add the chiseled block directly to the material picker.
>I have been struggling to find wood colors that have enough saturation for this staircase
My two ideas that either switch your torch to a lantern so the room doesn't have that orange tint.
Or go for less saturated with walnut wood. You can rarely find them temperate forests (with birch, maple and oak)
>>
>>563308252
>You can climb 9 mb high without jumping.
Not the height but I thought you would get heavy movement stutter/slowdown when they're so close together. I mean there's a little bit of seraph movement jankiness even on normal 8x8 mb stairs which is avoidable by making the steps longer. Similarly, elks also have very noticeable velocity loss when galloping up blocks.
I could add a lantern downstairs, but the firestarter torch stays. I have some walnut seeds but wood production will have to wait until the spring. My wood palette is mainly oak and pine since that's what I grow but I could easily get birch, larch and maple in large quantities as well.
I didn't know you can add rotated blocks to multiblock chiseling like that outside creative mode texture changing. Sounds really unintuitive but super useful. I gotta test that out ASAP.
Thanks, I appreciate it all.
>>
>>563311021
>Not the height but I thought you would get heavy movement stutter/slowdown when they're so close together.
I think a steeper climb looks slightly smoother actually.
Although when going down, you do end up jumping off the stairs if it's steep enough. Not that you'll break a leg on a small one story stairs though.
>I could add a lantern downstairs, but the firestarter torch stays.
The lantern's light should overpower the orange tint regardless.
>Thanks, I appreciate it all.

Neat. Unfortunately that game never clicked with me, even though I liked the concept.
Building a castle, getting good quality blood, having servants, really on brandreminds me of some modded Skyrim I played a long ass time ago, for some reason
I think a big turn off was the classic base building trap of not knowing what kind of rooms you'll need in advance and what kind of stuff you'll unlock so organizing the castle was a mess.
I know you could move it to anther location, but that was just kicking the can down the road.

Looking back I think a lot of the enjoyment from modded Skyrim for me came from theater of the mind shit. Kind of like a kid playing with toys in their sandbox, the game helped me make up stories about my character and shit, while the actual gameplay was kin of mediocre. I think I've finally dropped it when I realized that while I was trying to bend it out of shape with mods, into a specific vision I had of a game I wanted to play, I could instead just play a different game that's closer to what I was thinking of.

For me it was in this weird space, where it's not actively annoying, but I just kind of tune them out. Plus I found the premise and some of the artstyle a little silly.
Sure, I guess it is a little clever how there is an in-universe reason why the player would be obsessed with upgrading and customizing the car, but at the same time just making it about surviving in an anomalous exclusion zone would have been enough for me.

I started with this one. I've played every pokemon game from red/blue all the way up to sun/moon pretty much when they released. I didn't get my gameboy and red RIGHT when it came out, but there was still no sequel in sight at the time. The anon who mentioned level scaling being fucky was quite right. Took this screenshot of my highest HP creature while going up against the (new to me) once every 5 depth boss. It was level 210 with 116.61k health. Again, I've leaned heavily into the cleric spec and it wants to keep my dudes alive. If I had gone with any other spec I'd have probably just taken longer to get to the same spot. I only felt the need to grind a few levels one time and I've not min-maxed anything. Fused some seemingly useful traits onto dudes I'm already using. Artifacts and spell gems are still basic. No trick slots or whatnot utilized, just stats. Sword with atk for the centaur and staff with int for everyone else. The storyline isn't terribly long and really just serves as the tutorial.

I feel both disappointment and flattery these thoughts would originate from another player who has demonstrated one of a kind talent and has accomplished the impossible, yet is apparently immune from judgement owing to their reputation, do not think your words hold more credibility just because of who you are, being more well known and what you have accomplished in breaking world records and setting ones never previously accomplished, such as with TNT and Plutonia Nightmare. You know what, VS lore is actually extremely reminiscent of CLANG. Especially in context of medengies rather than spengies.
You don't need physics jank to feel it. One of the glitch effects during heavy temporal storms always reminded me of one of the CLANG copypastas. "The world shifts, yet you do not."
>>
>>563420165
>Nightingale.
How is it. I remember being intrigued by it when the first announcement trailer came out but then I lost interest by the time it came out, plus survivalcraft is always a risk.
Also truth be told I'm just so sick and tired of this prefab block aesthetic most of these have for the bases. In some games like Subnautica and maybe Fallout 4 it at least somewhat makes sense, but I just can't stand to look at it. Just gimme some nice prefabricated buildings with some customization options that fit the setting and I'll be happy.
Medieval Dynasty did just fine, for instance.
I know it technically restricts player freedom of expressing themselves, but I'd be happy to sacrifice that for nicer looking builds.

Any mods? Your chunk loading or generation is fucked.
Does restarting the game fix it? If that doesn't help, you can try regening chunks around you with /wgen regen 1 where 1 is the chunk radius you want to use. If you're used to Minecraft, remember that VS chunks are 4 times larger (32x32 blocks)

>How is it.
It's a fun openworld crafting survival.
Very nice setting and art. It is about going to "realms" aka maps, and do stuff in them. Basic stuff like kill/farm/build/explore,
I'm liking the crafting system's way to handle things.
The stats of an item are decided by:
>the item's crafting materials stats are based on the type of source they are from(prey animals, predators, rare high quality version of certain animal, etc)
>the type of augmentation to the crafting station where that item is made
>the charms that item has
>the infusions that item has
Gives a lot of stuff to grind, but also to tailor make the gear to your combat style, which I find more fun than the average of having a melee and ranged set of armour and call it a day.

My quest for pixel perfect lo-fi Vintage Story is progressing.
Found a mod that lets you replace the vanilla bilinear upscaler with any algorithm from lanczos to FSR1 and also change the sharpening algorithm.

I wish it had way more checks, though I also understand they couldn't put too much content behind a single skill that people might not pick.

No, you don't even have to use beams. There are many ways to cheese the system, but ceiling to ground beams or solid block connection are the "proper" ways to do it.
>>563434824
I think that happens if you approach it with Minecraft attitude where it's just a mind-numbing chore.
Vintage Story is fundamentally differently paced. You might like taking your time to slowly build up a mine. You could even do a bit of design to make your mines look nicer without disrupting the core mining gameplay. And you already have to develop some mining infrastructure in order safely expand large strip mines near the mantle. This fits naturally into that gameplay loop.
Oh and also it's only the softest sedimentary rocks that require stupid amounts of support. Almost any metamorphic or igneous rock stratum will be much more solid. That's one of the reasons I like the system. It gives more character and gameplay significance to different rock types that are otherwise not much more than different textures. You learn which rocks are literally rock solid and which ones feel very soft and dangerously eroded.

Xenoblade chronicles might be the best game I've ever played in my entire life, it's beautiful, touching, and not a slogfest. The gameplay is perfectly balanced, not confusing at all and most important not glitchy at all.
Nah, who am I kidding. It's an okay game but good lord does shulk looks ugly. Why does half of the side characters look good while the main character looks like he needed a 3rd chromosome to use his plot device sword.
Half of the quests are literally "Go kill 5 rabbits".
The world feels like a Korean mmo with 50 million creatures walking aimless around a spot.
The statuses are barely explained at all even in the tutorial.
Spoiler for the intro and a later plot point (which I have not reached yet so no spoiler for me either plz):I was surprised when Fiora was killed in the intro, I noticed that I wasn't getting weapons for shulk and I figured it was because his weapon would scale in a way or upgrade with the story but I was still finding new gear for her so I wasn't expecting her to die. The tension was a bit killed 30 minutes later when I reached the knee and one of the random vision I got from picking up a ground item was Shulk implying Fiora is alive. It would be incredible storytelling if it was intentional, but it's likely not so it kinda sucks.
And yet despite all of that... I kinda like it.

It's a dungeon crawler reduced to its purest form
You have a 4x4 grid with monsters, traps, loot and health
Each turn you choose a row, and you will be placed randomly on one of the remaining squares of that row, and you have a clear a number of squares per grid to go deeper
You get items, teeth to influence probabilities, special movements (like choosing a column instead of a row), you get more powerful to take down monsters without losing health
It's hardly the most innovative game of the year, but it looks amazing and it's nice to play

It's completely solo-able. I'd rank it better than conan in everything but coom mods. Gameplay is fairly smooth and there a sense of progression as you get up the tech tree. Combat is fun and each weapon really plays differently, which is nice. Spears are busted, but the other weapons have their perks. Basic mooks range from speedbumps to actual threats, and minibosses require backup from npc fighters or friends, or massive preparation. The big bosses are all different and actually fun to fight (until you get to the mammoth). The game is grindy, though, both with materials and exp. Thankfully, you can adjust drop rates and exp at any time and you can disable tool/ weapon/ armor degradation. I haven't played the new content, but it seems like a good lump of content

to actually answer the question, immersive sim usually means that instead of a linear level, the game replicates a place with a vaguely realistic layout. this also frequently comes with the people that inhabit the place, and those people frequently have things like jobs, homes, patrol routes, quests, and other interactions that happen with or without direct player intervention. due to a more realistic layout, these places frequently have various different ways to go inside them and things to do in them, which is most frequently used for infiltrating buildings and other things of that nature. there is also a focus on environmental storytelling, which frequently means audio logs or notes, corpses, decorations, and other evidence that tells you about the people who live in the place or an event that took place there.
put it all together, and you have deus ex tasking you to inflitrate a shipyard; you can climb in, sneak in through a vent, bribe someone, get a keycard from somewhere, swim in, etc. the player is the one that determines what happens, and how, for the more nonlinear missions. only one of these solutions is necessary. deus ex specifically has some things that few other games do - an overwhelming abundance of optional or hidden loot, including many duplicates of upgrade items, more than the amount you can equip at once. this means that in almost any path you pick, you'll find something cool and your experience will likely be very different to another player's.

Regarding SolCesto, once you get the flute:there's a fucking song in the Steam page of the game.https://shared.fastly.steamstatic.com/store_item_assets/steam/apps/273 8490/extras/0c510cd5a7d2a8f9ea42bbd d0f047b1f.webm?t=1775840460

Thanks, that makes sense.
>>563534436
I see the term tacked onto so many vastly different game, most of which doesn't match >>563535129's definition, that it's impossible to tell the meaning. The fact that the term is vague enough that it could describe 90% of games doesn't really help.
>>
>>
>>563539279
I mean specifically the words 'immersive' and 'simulation' are vague and can apply to most games even when put together.
Admittedly that's even true for terms that everyone know the meaning of, like role playing games.

That might actually be a symptom of a kernel level bug in Windows 10+, try rebooting.

Upgraded my lamp post designs from literally just lanterns on top of fence blocks. Probably gonna regret this when the next update hits but I just had to try the Nadiya style.
VS really lets you sink endless hours into detailing just about any little thing.
Hopefully I can keep this world around for a long time without needing to generate a new one for future story updates.

So far I've only found the one from the music box. I've played about four hours so far. Haven't reached the third boss yet. Only unlocked warrior and knight so far. I feel like I'm missing something obvious to unlock at least one of the others.

Redpill me on Bioshock bros. I'm not too sold the series, so I'd like to start with the best one, unless there isn't much of a quality gap between them. IIRC Infinity is pretty divisive between the fans, but I don't know why.

>>563567748
1 is the undoubtedly the best, narratively and (mostly) mechanically, but its age shows with a few wonky design decisions and frankly just being kinda ugly. Dear god, the fucking pipe puzzles.
2 is weaker and more arcadey, given that you're a fat fuck in a power-armor diving suit and the game really wants you to play with that, but certainly isn't *bad*, just doesn't hit the same highs.
Infinite has a better story than 2 and is almost totally divorced from the first two until towards the end (and the DLC) when it breaks out the metanarrative, but got absolutely hammered by the CoD/Halo bug on the gameplay front.

A media literacy check (everyone failed) that accidentally created a generation of libertarians.

The pipe puzzles were awesome. I wish more games actually put effort into their hacking/ lockpicking mini games.

>finally finished VA-11 Hall-A the other day
>refreshing my memory on Seinfeld by watching an Art Vandelay compilation on youtube so I can understand the Art Von Delay jokes better
>the lady he's talking to in one of the clips is named Lenore like that other VA-11 Hall-A character
This game is fucking crazy with the references

Having fun with the game. Beat it with Knight, Mage andThe Lizard
Any tips to beat with the other characters? Warrior having null magic makes the early biome and the second one a pain to beat; and the other characters having one of str and magic makes the choice of what to upgrade hard!
>Knight and spoiler character have 2 str and 1 magic
>So in general is in order of upgrade: Str>Magic>Str>Str. So makes you strong to beat/suffer low damage on str enemies, while suffering on the second and maybe third biome
>Mage is the inverse:First and last biomes are horrible if you go full magic, but middle areas are a sneeze with some struggle in the previous to last biome.
So how to do upgrades for Warrior and the others?

Ah meh spiritual successor to system shock, like its an okay game on its own but nothing ground breaking, personally always felt like it was overhyped for what it brought to the table, like literally preschool level pseudo moral dillemas which were either A; be altruistic for a reward at a later time vs B; take reward immediately by being gratuitously evil, all within an average fps gameplay.

kinda cute. always wondered why more devs aren't making v-pets/tamagotchis for smartphones (especially fucking digimon and their shitty v-pets still being limited to 32x16 pixel monochrome displays where i really have to stretch my imagination to see what digimon it is even supposed to be. that shit was okay in the 90s)
Instantly obliterated her by going out during the day though lmao. not compatible with my current lifestyle.
