Arguably the only thing pulled from BN is bringing back cyber companions for everyone but bringing back dungeons was a thing from SF1, the new card mechanics are nothing like BN and the noise system is the evolution of the tribe system allowing you to combine more than 3 different forms plus one super form equivalent to the tribe king.
And the remake of the combat worked in a way because dimming wars from BN are totally obsolete vs racking up noise normally which is the superior strategy.

I prefer Kirin and Gunvolt to be friends, but it is the only equal relationship GV has with a female in the series, and the only one where they're both influencing each other to be better people. Kirin is the only one out there working side by side with Gunvolt, and gets far more convos with him than any other character. It had the most fun cast, mostly because they weren't background NPCs or die immediately, and we got to know and interact with them in the game proper (EDEN still has my favorite dynamic and characters, but we only get to see their shenanigans in a single drama CD). Blank cards codes used to be obtained from booster packs like e-reader cards or the prima guides, it's not like lotto or ciphers that you can obtain ingame.
You could just not use the strongest ones and start with the standard cards first. Just like with e-reader cards it's up to you.

The character interactions are its strong point. The overall plot is obviously stitched together last minute and doesn't know where to go. I think Kirin being a merciful and hopeful character would have landed harder with a cast and setting seeping in despair like the first two games.

resident wheeltard here, base wheel does the same damage and seems to be the same speed but buffed wheel seems like it's doing about double damage or very slightly less on all gun hits locked or unlocked from what I've been getting in tests/kudos counting compared to the stream. he also has a dedicated unlock button now that got used at least once and made the same sound it did in connect ix
apparently people didn't know that everything in ix2 has hyper guard durability yet but it got mentioned on a stream for i think the first time, so there's that if you're a lorehead and didn't know

Yeah, best bants, weakest plot, which is okay. Vidya writing can suffer a bad plot if it has decent character writing. The older games had fun characters too, but it didn't matter much if most of it was confined to side material, and you only got a sliver of it in the actual game. The GV3 cast actually get to have conversations with each other and story impact beyond:

Aside from special characters like Forte or the Guardians, you have to go to BN/SF and Legends to get reoccurring villains. GV characters are probably closer to Legends characters in feel and personality though, even if the settings are almost completely opposite in tone.

It's really obvious Gunvolt has fallen for Kirin by the end of the game. For instance, INTI literally went back and patched in a scene where GV is "dying," and his final thoughts are "Kirin... meeting you... saved me. I wish I could see you one last time," which is absolutely the most romantic thing Gunvolt has ever done. Of course, he's not dying, but he's losing consciousness and thinks he is, so it still counts.

Kirin's feelings towards GV are more ambiguous, but she gets a few lines during the final fight where she's shouting about how "we decided to build a future together." She might not be picking up on GV's signals, since Kirin seems to be romantically clueless, except when it comes to BB and Prado.

There's no telling what state SY is in in the GV1 era. The Sumeragi in GV3 is very different from the one in GV1, afterall. Could be that Sumeragi has them completely sidelined or underthumb, and the damage GV/Eden did was what allowed them to assert more independence. Could be that SY and Sumeragi are intertwined, with the SY leadership being in lockstep with Sumeragi. Could be that SY are a bunch of Copens. Who knows?
