That render is actually from a fanart FC2(?) gallery website by a japanese Smash Bros artist.
He was basically doing a png trophy gallery before Sakurai decided to do pngs again, giving spotlight to characters that didn't get to appear in Brawl and pre-Smash 4.

The site was also famous for giving Sakurai critcs a platform to issue their gripes with the game, especially certain inaccuracies with characters and descriptions.
For example, they were REALLY concerned about how they were treating King K.Rool and Kaptain K. Rool as brothers in the trophy flavor text.
I didn't think it was a problem since it could be just retaining the fact K.Rool is quite literally a master in disguises. But seeing how they spoiled Mother 3 and claimed Mr.EAD was an evil antagonist character in English, i think they had the right to issue about this back then.

If i get the chance, I'll probably find the original link to the site later on. But this at least explains why he has such a familiar render, because the domesticated developers were looking for a quick reference to use via google.

That does seem to be the case in Odyssey and the Super Mario series, but it seems to be handled differently in Bananza. While it's pretty vague, Pauline's grandmother is hinted to be Lady from the original arcade game. Not too different from Cranky begin the original arcade DK. I wouldn't be surprised if EPD Tokyo were inspired by that lore.

I like to think DK arcade to be something that happens every generation. It's fully legit but I noticed something off, the seal of quality doesn't have that special reflective gold ink the SMA4 cart has.
But it's a legit cart and has the little number that shows when it was produced, it's that 13 below the seal that doesn't reflect like the SMA4 cart.
It also has save data from ages ago.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here, but I really liked this movie. I mean REALLY liked it. It was just non-stop blockbuster cliches and action movie setpieces dripping with Mario fanservice. Like, yeah, it really is just "shiny keys jingling" for 90 minutes, but there comes a point where if you jingle the shiny keys thoroughly enough, it's not really a criticism.

I feel like this movie's poor reception says something aboout our desensitization to spectacle. And this movie is an absolutely absurd, non-stop spectacle. Fans complain abut "muh pacing" because using a word like that makes them feel smart, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with this movie's pacing. It is simply a fast-paced movie.The story is light, and the motives and conflicts are obvious, so it's actually an asset that this movie doesn't stop to let you catch your breath.

Character-wise, I found everyone enjoyable. I love the whole cliche of cartoony bad guys who love doing evil for evil's sake, so Bowser's relationship with his son was endlessly entertaining. I heard people criticize his "failed redemption arc", but those people clearly missed the pouint. Bowser's "redemption" was reconnecting with his son, even if it was in the name of being evil. I found it charming and funny.

As a 40-something, lifelong Mario autist, I'm legitimately surprised this movie is getting dragged so hard. There are so many fun ideas laced with drop-dead gorgeous Mario eye candy here. Like, yeah, it's pure style over substance, but that's not always objectively a bad thing. It's strange to me that Mario fans are so fixated on substance that they're blinding themselves to this plethora of style.

Take Galaxy's intro as an example, some trading card says that he was the Magikoopa that defeated Mario at the beginning but with nothing else saying it for 99% of people they see that Magikoopa as a random mook. You could try altering his or the generic Magikoopa design but it didn't feel quite right when Mario and Luigi did it.
Something to remember is that the only constants in 3D Mario are Mario, Peach, Toad and Bowser. Nintendo doesn't care about bringing in characters who "should" be there like BJ in Odyssey.
