Makes me wonder, with all these advancements in technology and bullshit, why do they always try to reinvent the wheel instead of going back to the original concept art and executing it more faithfully if they're forced to. Like, her Smite 1 heels are platform-heel blocks because of the lower poly count, her new ones look like cheap and nonfunctional tapered ice skates, but the concept has a nice curve to her platform-heels that both looks more functional and would have been a nice re-addition. Smite 1 looks better, but they literally have a better design than both already.

"As funny as this would been if it was true, lorez's failures come down to hilariously blatant incompetence, internal politics, and general mismanagement. They were making enough of a profit from their games to keep the lights on. Key word "were".

You probably won't believe me, but paladins was absolutely a profitable game, at least up until and during 2022-early 2023, even after lorez had clearly put it on the backburner and gone all in on making new games that were costing them millions of dollars and didn't make a profit, like roco, which was only barely keeping itself out of the red, and dko, which was an outright failure in every way. smite was an incredibly profitable game.
I don't know what the game's revenue looked like after early 2023, but I do know that paladins and the people who worked on it were constantly getting fucked over by lorez, no matter how well the game was doing at a given time or how productive and efficient evil mojito was. Internally, they outdid the smite team in certain aspects. smite was the big moneymaker that funded everything else, but it was also the personal favorite among the execs, and it was obvious.
What happened is they (especially management,) spent the better part of over a decade betraying, belittling, and burning the people who played and loved their games. I don't need to tell you how dedicated and passionate the paladins community was, but a big chunk of whatever the game made was invested into new games, many of which never saw the light of day, or funding tournaments for smite and roco, instead of being reinvested into paladins. smite was also screwed over badly, but not quite as hard, it was kept afloat by the whales.
Turns out, customers don't forget when you shit in their burgers, and lorez is now on life support, because, to the surprise of no one but the now former management, people don't like it when you run the games they loved into the ground.

It doesn't help that the now former ceo decided to kill off their only two profitable games wtithout so much as sunset patches for an alpha that is, in the best case scenario, years away from full release, because "it'll be the first moba on unreal engine 5" and "players want a good looking 3rd person moba".
Yeah.
Now the company has laid off almost its entire workforce and is desperately pumping out smite 2 content as fast as it can, because they're only barely keeping their heads above water. Last I heard they've become profitable enough to hire two new guys, but they're still very unstable and probably always will be in the current gaming market.
Even if they somehow become stable, they're probably not going to make another new game.
Erez is the ceo again, but he's got his other billionaire vanity project, prophecy, and I wouldn't be surprised if the hi-rez name and ips are considered too damaged now.
