Not much that you have to do every single day, but it varies by event. Some events add temporary daily bonuses, for example right now you can earn bits of cash shop currency just by logging in, idling for one hour, and killing one hundred mobs. Others have actual chores, like Christmas where you had to hang 5 stockings every day to receive rewards and if you missed more than a couple days in the second part of the event, you'd lose out on valuable cash shop items.
There are a good amount of weekly chores, but still entirely up to you if you really want to do them or not.

No, they die as the game's novelty wears off and people stop playing together just for the sake of playing the game and become solely interested in doing things that benefit themselves.
