Just a cozy PvE server. I haven't even really played the game yet, so we'll have to figure it out together.

Rules: just no griefing. I advertised it publicly as a free speech server on some of those server lists but no one joined kek. I figure it'll mostly be anons.

There's a thread here called AnonCraft but the server is unreliable and just crashes every now and then. I think as long as you keep yours running fine, you'll get people. The IRC is just the cherry on top.

I probably won't have issues with support like the other guy did, since I'm not using a game host provider, I set up the server manually on a linux host, it's been really smooth so far. There's an overkill amount of RAM that probably won't even get used up (32gb)

The problem with the minecraft chat reporting update is that your messages on random servers are cryptographically signed in a way that ties them to your account and proves you wrote them, so the server's rules don't matter, you can still get fucked for ToS violations because your client will send the other guy's signed messages straight to microshit. I could be just making this up, but I'm pretty sure hytale doesn't have something like that. If it does, at least the game is only $20, so I can buy it again if I get banned. But for a game with PR as good as hytale I feel like all hell would break loose the moment someone reveals they got banned for chat on a private server.

I have no problem with that, but one guy will probably be pissed since he already started building a base. I guess it's dumb to expect the world to be permanent in such an early build of the game. I am predicting there will be multiple resets as new updates drop.

Yeah, the instability of it all is why it'll suck for a while. I don't know if they have any tools that'll make it easy so that you can port some stuff over.

I'm also the only admin so if anyone else claims to be just ignore them. If there's ever jannies I'll post their usernames here using this trip, but I don't see a need for jannies at the moment

Not sure if it's worth if it's worthwhile resetting the world for. But that's up to you. Don't know if you can put a vote mod in the server where players can vote or something. I don't mind if we stay or go.

The server repo is still showing 4b0f30090 as the latest version for me which is the patch I applied earlier today. I will update and reset the world as soon as it comes out though. I don't plan on getting stuck running an older world.

Yeah definitely not for this, but if they change world gen dramatically in one of these upcoming patches it's another story. Though I'm not actually sure whether they are doing that soon as the other anon said.

So I had my mind set on something closer to the way Minecraft worldgen updates work, but it seems very likely no world reset will be needed when this does come out anyway.

Kek. Why is this such a common pattern of behavior? I've seen it in other irc rooms as well.
Anyways if you google "hytale server list" currently a ton of server lists come up (hytale-servers.net, hytale-servers.com, hytaleonlineservers.com, etc.). I initially spammed the server on as many of those as possible, so that's probably where a lot of the players are coming from.

The torches lighting the side of the mountain are kino. It's interesting how hytale looks like minecraft with shaders out of the box, but runs way better.

I was certain it wasn't my server, but just to be sure I checked bans.json, and sure enough it's empty. I haven't banned anyone and neither did my server. Could just be hytale auth issues. Restarting your client usually fixes that. Otherwise I couldn't say. I would be really surprised if hytale banned him for that.

I see no evidence on my end that the server went down, so that's weird. I was asleep but the server appears to still be running from what I can see.

Not sure what happened but shit's completely fucked, server just crashed again, spawn area is corrupted. Can't seem to get the server running again. I'm restoring from yesterday's backup.

Managed to preserve player inventories from the corrupted world save so your gear should still be there. Server's up again, but anything built in the last 24 hours is gone.
Still can't really diagnose what happened, I assume it happened when I was asleep. I'm setting up the server to reboot automatically every 6 hours which should hopefully reduce the likelihood of it repeating.

Yeah that's ass, sorry anon. I just tried to do some surgery to see if I could narrow down the corrupted chunks and rescue the other ones as a last resort, but it doesn't seem to be possible (the server announces which chunks it fails to load, but they're contained in packed region files).

Anyway, the server world is continuing from a backup dated Jan 16 4:23 PM PST (just over 24 hours ago) and everyone's inventory is still intact. We should have no more downtime with scheduled restarts. New people should still feel free to join, just treat it as the vibe coded early access game it is and don't build anything very permanent until the game is more stable.

Having a structure close to spawn even when 0 are online is a nice way to not make it feel empty too. Really not much there, but take what you need.

im not sure if this is what happened, but when i initially loaded in i tried taking the knight statue from the spawn and was blocked. perhaps if people try taking blocks from the spawn it corrupts them?

The server population is tiny and is comprised of at least 80% channers, so I can't imagine what you are referring to. A chat where people are chill and don't say nigger ever 5 seconds doesn't mean it's compromised by non channers. Plus you could easily gatekeep and drive off the rabble by just growing some balls and telling them to leave.

It's up. Just checked.

Ye Ugly Old Inn has been destroyed by a griefer at some point. All floors are empty. Farm in comparison was lazily destroyed. But it looks aesthetically pleasing to have some of it still be in tact.

So in light of this, it is now Ye Ugly Old Decrepit Inn! It'll make for a nice bit of server history.

The griefer griefed more than just the inn, but I was able to rollback the damage without restoring a world backup, since the server is using an alpha build of CoreProtect (plugin that logs block changes). It messed up some of the block states, so roof tiles and stuff are the wrong way around.
The griefer's name was HotTeaAndHoney btw

Yeah, signs add soul to Minecraft
It means there's no good way to leave messages at spawn in-game as an admin either, which is a hallmark of small MC servers.
There's a plugin called EasySigns to create floating text (https://www.curseforge.com/hytale/mods/easysigns) but they disappear when the chunk unloads and they don't come back, author hasn't fixed that yet.

I replaced the server files without restarting the server. Naughty, but theoretically harmless since I assume the server loads Assets.zip into RAM. Next time the server automatically restarts, it should be on the new version.

Anecdotal experience but the three undead horses I've spread out across my singleplayer haven't despawned no matter how far I went, dunno whether the same holds true on multiplayer

Thought the game bugged out by giving me this. Stacked up to three but the number didn't go down. Once it breaks you can still use it but the throw attack starts eating the stack. Don't know if I could have repaired it cause I didn't think it would disappear from my inventory.

Can confirm, my horse did not despawn. I brought a 2nd horse but it drowned when I looked away. As long as you fence it up or keep it away from predators, it's good.

The anoncraft thread is a good reference for what an active server thread looks like. People there are constantly complaining about server issues and gay discord drama. Maybe that's why it has so many players
