Booba worship resurgence edition:
>Game News
We thought the update is going to be an industrial update with some random filler "immersion" shit. Turns out its another filler shit with a little bit of industrial mechanics being added.
>Server News
nOG is trucking along. Joyless, Thule, and Edin remain the three major powers in the server. Somehow Edin has become the main spawntown. Development on spawn island continues. People are mapping and building better logistics between towns. The cult of booba has slowly started to return to server culture in Edin thanks to Edin-chan's influence.
Joyless is the go-to for a souf experience and Thule is your go-to norf experience once you feel prepared enough to leave spawn or Edin.
Will dove finally finish part 2 of the lore videos? Who knows.
>/vm/ Vintage Story (nOG or noggers)
144.126.153.101:29400
A newer server with the culture and people of OG. lightly modded and focused on preserving builds/lasting a long time. Essentially OG's replacement. Possibly getting new mods or updated mods after some testing so stay tuned ITT.
>Modded Weekend Serb:
>174.73.170.143:42420
Join for heavily modded weekend fun and shenanigans. Only open on the weekend, the new server is fantasy southeast Asia themed. Great for fucking around on the weekend with random anons.
Reminder that Discord/ Reddit trannies (and others whom emulate them within these threads) are not, and have never been welcome. No servers will be added to the thread if they are associated with either. D*scord faggots get the rope.

1.21 was mostly a DEJANK update. The next update is supposed to add actual features like more smithing mechanics, fishing, mechanical power overhaul, and immersion slop.
I am gradually getting more and more worried that rone is losing focus with his game but that I'm holding my breath.
>>
>>
>>2197331
and 1.22 will be another dejank + lovely QoL changes + uncompromises
rone is fully focused! he miiiiight just focus a lil' on one of his 2 other simultaneously developed games, like the generic furry dungeon crawler
>>
>>2197340
He should just spend the next 2-4 years knocking out the roadmap (and then some) so he's no longer too embarassed to put the game on steam. Once he does that he can work on the bubsy clone he's always wanted to make.

>start a new default world
>instantly get bored because it's the same flat plains and generic generations
>try again and mess with the world gen settings
>the world is suddenly way more interesting.
I love exploring in games and Vintage story has always been a bit dull on that regard but tweaking the world gen has completely changed that. I've found so many cool looking places that it's quite fun just running around. The mountains are bigger, there are more lakes, more complex valleys and canyons. Living on a this big plateau that over looks a multilayered ravine

terrain gen like this when?
(never)
>>
>>
>>2197708
perlin noise is okay for shit that doesn't matter like particle effects or shaders or fish particles, but terrain generation should be done with something that does actually matter. it's okay to use perlin noise to seed the initial tectonic provinces, but everything after that should have more care put into it than fucking octaves.
>>
>>
>>2197705
Rone said he doesn't like realistic terrain, so never. I think that's stupid since this is the one game you'd expect to find it in, but I'd hope we'd at least have the option.
I think minecraft changing it's worldgen back in the day with the adventure update traumatized rone hard enough to make him associate realistic terrain gen with "boring", but playing VS I'm always pissed at how even with larger landforms scaling you still can't reliably get endless forests, deserts, plains, or mountain ranges. I'd love for a future map on OG to look like an actual world instead of a endless repeating landscape of shattered noise separated by "ocean".

I genuinely have no idea where they even spawn. I saw some once. Where I live currently is pretty far north but still temperate. Larches can be seen on hills and such, but it's mostly maples, pines, and oaks. Also really the only berries are cranberries and blueberries.

I can't decide if I should make a temporary base as soon as I find clay.
I'm wondering if the earlier you make storage vessels, the better it is for early food management. Maybe start to explore further once I have at least a bowl and a portable cooking pot in my inventory, with maybe one storage vessel ready if you plan to make a gathering outpost that is 2-3 days of walking away.

Late game flax farms make twine very abundant. I always opt for the inventory space in the early game. You don't really need a lot for a windmill until you reach late game tism' milling in a server with xskills or some shit. Before that, a small pounder and quern mill to get into the steel age is enough.

God, I fucking hate Expanded Foods so much.
My hearty red meat stew, all sealed in a crock are apparently aging. And because the devs for that mod are fucking retarded they didn't make it so their foods last long inside a crock.
This shit lost 75% of it's lifespan before rotting.
>>
>>2198290
Yeah, but I mean normally you're saving animal hides for leather and armor. Most people rush copper so they can get a saw since it's so important and aren't invested in doing much else. By the time you have a flax farm, you probably are already more than capable of leather production. I've personally only every skipped straight from baskets to backpacks, with the odd hunters backpack here and there.

>>

Now that I'm more used to fight the wildlife and wolves by just throwing spears at them, I can see why you all said food wasn't an issue in the game. The combo of cooking and making a cellar really is a game changer.
I guess farming for grains due to their extremely long preservation is probably the next move to prepare for winter later.

(also how do I heal early game)
>>
>>
>>2199039
Yes, this happened literally on my 2nd run of the game. It taught me that you can't see shit most of the time, you never know what could be lurking behind those bushes.
And I swear I saw a wolf immediately go down a block to hide from my view one time. Probably a coincidence but it really made me wonder if the AI was smart enough to plan for an ambush.
>>
>>

>>

>>
>>
>>
>>2199220
And to add to what was said above, mostly expectations. People and even the guide hints that you should get out of stone age because there's not "much you can do", but after looking around you can actually build a whole base while staying there.
>have materials for an advanced house, packed dirt, leveled up packed dirt, wood, cobblestones, stairs, slabs...
>you can make quite a lot of stuff with just dry grass and sticks
>you can fight off anything with just spears
>clay and farming can last you for a long while
>>
>>2199257
Except it's almost more work to stay in the stone age given that resource gathering with copper tools is just so much faster, and the barrier of entry isn't even that high. Once you have a pick you can just go murder a few marked copper nodes and suddenly you have an anvil.

Would disabling copper and tin surface spawns be effective at prolonging the unga bunga stage, or would panning be still too good? It's only 40 nugs, and panning can get you that in like an hour of panning or less. You might have to mod panning gains to be less to prevent speedrunning.
The stone age is honestly the funnest part of the game, and the fact that you *can* do animal husbandry (or should be able to; nigga just chisel out a dugout log for a feeding trough and make a bucket out of fired clay) and especially tree husbandry and extensive farming, it should naturally come before steel. It just doesn't make sense that goats, milk, and fucking apples are the end game and steel is effectively the easy part since you don't have to wait.

What does it mean when your prospecting pick keeps telling you huge deposit detected of the thing you want in every direction + misc low detections of things you dont care about, and you find the low detection while still not coming across the massive detection? If I mod it anyway, I'd add a "primitive plank" recipe which lets you carve shitty planks out of wood, inefficiently, using something like a knife + hammering tool (rocks will do). Like the Card Survival method of making planks. It's criminal that you can't make dugouts or other lumber craft in a "survival" game. You don't need a fucking saw to make a primitive vessel for holding water.

the real question is how in the ever living fuck you fix tailor
clockmaker at the very least has locusts, movement speed, and translocator costs
but tailor's just fucked.
>unique craftable is clothing, which isnt much of a draw on its own compared to the items of other classes (and on singleplayer/small servers you probably shouldnt have class exclusive recipes anyways. especially with how some mods treat tailoring kits)
>sole buff is armor durability. which is already quite high without the +10%
>debuffs hit ever major role except blacksmithing and cooking (foraging, mining, fighting, butchering, and farming)
>>
>>
>>2200349
yeah +10% armor durability is completely useless, it'd still be useless even if it were +1000%, and tailor's only practical role in the game is making tailored gamby
tailor should get a twine efficiency bonus like from that one clothing mod. another stolen idea, but using 6 fibers + spindle to make 2 twine instead of 4 for 1 twine is pretty big.

>you have to do this every time you boot them up again afaik
you can setup a shortcut to do it for you.
the trick is to set it to launch command line (cmd /c start "parent folder for your target" /affinity)
for example i have this as my steam shortcut,
>cmd /c start "Steam" /affinity FE "D:\Steam\steam.exe"
this doesnt launch steam directly, but it launches steam through command line and then sets it to use every core except the first. this in turn is also applied to all the games launched through steam.
for steam in particular i need "Steam" in quotations and im not sure why. removing it just breaks the command.
for defining core usage, a hex value is used. each character is for a group of four cores
>hex is a 16 number scale, so 0123456789ABCDEF
>core 1 in the group = +1, core 2 = +2, core 3 = +4, core 4 = +8
cores 1,2, and 4 in a group would be B for example.
no cores in a group is 0.
the first cores are at the end of the value, not the start.
so 000F would be for a 16 core CPU, and it would only use the first four cores (0-3). while 8000 would use only the very last core (15)
>>
>>2200413
forgot to remove the "not sure why", part cause i figured that out.
anyways there's more, suppose you also want to use --datapath (like me because the last thing i need is more crap on my C drive)
the best way i've got is to make your affinity shortcut target a .bat with your --datapath shortcut pasted in there but this wont close command line
if you want that just add exit to the end and start "" to the front, this'll make command line close as soon as it pops up.
all together it'll be something like
>shortcut
>cmd /c start "parent folder for .bat" /affinity"pathway to .bat"
>batch file
>start "" "pathway to executable" --datapath="pathway to data folder" exit

yeah, you can build a clay furnace. it's a lot of work and you'll still be stuck firing it with loads of wood, but at least it saves you from gathering grass. but pit kilns are still the only option if you just want one block done quickly, unless you like wasting a lot of wood.

I hear this game either "takes too long" to do anything or "everything falls apart" and requires constant maintenance. To what degree is this true? Like going from nothing to a fully furnished and decorated house/settlement, you can't just sit in a comfy armchair and admire your knick-knacks and in-game hobbies? And have to constantly repair or maintain things?

Honestly, with how central the immersive survival aspects are and how much focus there is on food preservation and cultivation, it's strange that the actual hunger and health systems are so basic.
It's a simple "it's a bar that goes down and if it's 0 you take damage". There are no stages of hunger/satiety. No weight gain or loss nor even any bonus to food types. No injury mechanics, just a basic healthbar,

So I play on a server with family members where a vast majority of them don't want any combat. But there are still a few of us who likes combat. As a compromise we kept the lore enemies on, but turned off temporal stability, temporal storms, and made it so enemies only spawn in light level 2 and lower.
What're my options of farming rusty gears? I can't make myself go crazy underground because no temporal stability to make me crazy and I can't farm them during temporal storms because that's turned off. Am I just stuck with trading?

True. VS' is all over the place with its design choices. I kinda want to see a game that one ups VS in terms of giga autism. Like literally everything tries to be as realistic as possible, while still being a silly survival crafting voxel game.
>>
>>2201281
They could likely come up with something in the span of an update but the pace of updates are generally slow and focus is kaleidoscopic. Not Zomboid slow or Minecraft kaleidoscopic, but still.
Same deal with rivers, enemy spawn logic, and... honestly, world generation at large.
>>
>>2201605
Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead is probably my favorite survival game. It has more depth than VS but it's not a voxel game.
CDDA and VS are two of my favorite survival games so far. Nothing else really comes close.
>>
>>2201631
Long ago I loved CDDA, then everything changed when the realism troons attacked only Kevin the master of autism could stop them but when CDDA needed him the most he had a meltdown.
Ever since that day they removed more and more features and have splintered the community so now all the features I love are split between branches.

I think it's alright at the niche it's going for and has a lot of potential, but right now it's empty. I'm interested in the whole worldgen update they're working on and, if their momentum of updates actually foster a self-sustaining community, I might try to learn modding with that game. I'm at that stage of coding experience where I generally get syntax, language features, and a few data structures and algorithms in a vacuum but get stuck when asked to do a project. I initially tried with VS but I failed hard.

Frankly I think the game should've went more naturalist/mythological with it's enemies. The "horrors" are boring literally no one cares for them. They should've done stuff like giant lions and dinosaurs

the only unrealistic part of it is how fucking good dogs are at hunting, they don't even need training and they can harry deer for hours and maul the fuck out of any small wildlife you point them at telepathically
not that a good hunting dog couldn't do that, but all of them are so good, so the #1 thing you can do for yourself when hunting is to get a dog or two and you'll never starve again

As long as they're extracted correctly it should be fine. There are a few TFL abcs that just suck or are broken but the majority of the thousands in there should work. Although a lot of the split abcs that have titles like TFL_QueenofHollywood-Flute2 are only part of the full track and need the rest of the song to be played by other players or music boxes in a band so they may appear to be mostly silent

Do you guys prefer to build big bases that has all your stuff in it or do you guys like to make small houses and buildings with whatever you need?
Like, do you make a separate building for smithing and another building for cooking and another for leather making, etc? Or do you make one big base that has everything in it, including your greenhouses and your farm animals, etc?
>>
>>
>>2204368
I was considering building another building once I started running out of space, but I decided instead to just make an extension of my main house.
I don't want to have to go outside to access something from the other building, in case of a temporal storm or something.
I might make a greenhouse a separate building when I get around to that though.

or
Go deep underground and mine there so at least the big ugly hole is covered?
I like building with shale but it's a top forming rock layer so it's hard finding a decent spot to mine it without making it look ugly. But if I dig a big deeper and mine underground for it then stuff spawns inside unless I spam light sources. I have the same problem when mining granite. I like building with it but since it's deep underground I have to spam light sources everywhere so nothing spawns near me.

butchering would be nice, but would have to cut dinosaurs and critter pack i think as they're not compatible.
EF&ACA is cool even if some/most of it was disabled due to crashing concerns. Even just dried fruit/syrup, expanded vinegar, bottles, cauldron, and spiles would be cool.
Toolsmith looks neat but i havent used it and i dunno if it will work in the pack.
Novelty! looks good.
Cannibalism looks like a good meme mod and is compatible with butchering. We can peel the skin off Rone's villagers.
If you're looking for things to cut i suggest Salty´s Falling Trees as it's anti QoL, and if nobody is too attached rustbound magic as it clutters up storage spawns annoying mobs and barely offers anything worth grinding it for.

Experiencing the winter once is fine, at least if you have things to do like chiseling or building. I always either move south or just start the game in a warm climate. The default winter is way too boring and long for me. The default start is somewhere around 47 latitude, i prefer something around 30. You can check your latitude with the command /wgen pos latitude
If you kept the default setting of 100k blocks pole to equator distance you have a decent journey ahead of you. I would get some temporal gears first to set a few waypoints on your journey so you don't spawn all the way back in 0,0 if you die.

its not like minecraft where you can place torches as as a bread crumb trail and spawn protector
>oil lamps and candles have been nerfed into oblivion and im pretty sure they dont even protect their own block anymore

>torch holders are rare enough to not be an option (and you want the few you find next to firepits and pit kilns)

Enemies will spawn in thin air if there are no available spawn positions, you used to be able to prevent spawns by putting down rocks on the floor but that made ron the big mad that people were cheesing his hecking loreslop
>>
The key point is, if your idea is to basically fight the eldritch horrors every-time you want to mine you are playing the game wrong. Yes you can try to act like you're a chad but this is just an extremely inefficient way to tackle things in a game purely design around high-risk shit-rewards. You want to save time and take the easy way out whenever possible.

Locusts and their spawners are soooo poorly designed. Literally like angsty 12 year kaizo mario level maker tier game design. You can kill 80 of them in a 30 seconds and they will just keep spawning. It's expensive but the dopamine hit from instantly deleting bearniggers in one shot with a musket is unparalleled in this game, crossbows are a decent mid-game stop gap that pretty much completely replace standard bows.
>>
>>
>>2207938
>crossbows are a decent mid-game stop gap that pretty much completely replace standard bows.
Are they really? iirc, historically, crossbows were made so an average peasant could perform the role of an archer without the same training, but even with a crossbow they could not outperform skilled bowmen
I remember reading this in a history textbook many years ago so I could be completely mistaken, by the way
>>
>>2207949
Crossbows are more steady than the bow. If you are extremely accurate with a bow then it will outperform the crossbow. Usually people don't bother learning how to aim with the bow so they move to the crossbow. Slower fire rate than a bow, but 99% of the time you're hunting things that runs away from you anyways so the reload doesn't matter.
>>
>>
>>
>>2207949
>Are they really?
In games yes, they lack the fire rate but have insanely higher single shot damage often times negating the need for a follow up shot unless fighting like tier 3+ enemies, and even then using an iron crossbow with iron bolts will put them very low. A standard bow will reign supreme for crowd control, but for single target the crossbow is better.
If we're talking IRL then you're mostly right.

So other than crocking meals, what other ways are there to preserve food?
There's a lot of mods in the server I play at so I don't know all the ways to keep food longer.
I've just been smoking meat then curing them in salt. For vegetables I've been picking them. For berries I usually juice them then let them dehydrate, the juice I turn into aqua vitae. Eggs and clams/mussles are the ones I usually crock since they don't dry age, apparently if your hefty red meat stew dry ages in a crock it loses ALL satiety.
I don't really know how to keep animal skins longer. I need all the salt for curing my meats and I don't have enough lime/borax to process them all. Should I just let them rot? I do need a lot of rot to make compost.
How about pies? Bread? Or do you only make those when you want to eat them?

I might have to do chiseling anyway but here's the overall floorplan. The basalt sand is just for a makeshift dot grid.
I'm gonna make a square shape instead of the normal rectangle shape with the large pillars inside the main building being the divider. with the pseudo-nave in the middle aisle between the large columns inside, with the other two entrances on the other sides. I'll have the arcades on the left and right.
Let me know what you guys think so far if you want me to add anything or if I missed anything here.

This HAS to be the most useless mechanic in the game, no? Do you really carry some clunky as shit around that can only suck up one meal from a cooking pot at a time? Why? I can just pull a meal straight from my cooking put and put it into my cellar and it will last plenty long enough.

I have the most rizzless, unfuckable based in existence - it's two stories with four 7 x 7 rooms made of claystone cobble walls and oak plank flooring. Also there is a basement cave that contains a bunch of holes for clay molding, a charcoal pit, and a cellar. Also half of the building itself is magically floating above water.
>>
>>2207811
if the server has a lot of mods you probably have expanded cooking and a cullinary artillery
so...
vanilla:
>a cellar is obviously a must, with a properly made one your precious foods will never spoil at a rate faster than x0.25, this makes most food items last at least ~3 in game months
>clay vessels have an additional bonus for veggies and grains
>burning things makes them last longer at the cost of some sat
>berries, juicing & drying is pretty much the best way to preserve them.
>pies only last a month in a cellar outside of winter, but this improves the lifespan of berries and meat by a lot.
>grain lasts the longest in flour form (twice as long as unprocessed grain) you can then turn it into bread or pie whenever you wish.
>tree fruits last last a good while, and are the only way to get fruit sat outside of berries
>cheese is great for long lasting dairy.
>honey lasts forever and the wax can seal crocks. but is annoying to farm in vanilla with constant skep crafting. use from golden combs if your server has it.
>as long as its not winter mushrooms and berries wont go bad if left unharvested. crops as well but they have varying
EF/ACA:
>bottles are your best friend, when corked they make liquids last for a very long time
>alcohols age instead of rotting, effectively eternal if properly preserved.
>berries can now be candied, this makes them last for over a year.
>fruit bread, lets you shove fruit into bread, another option for berry preservation thats longer than pie.
other mods:
>food shelves adds the ice fridge, but unless the server has a way to collect lake you'll need to >>2208193
>medieval overhaul adds cellar ice, but it needs ice as well. and a lot more iirc
>both of these stack with each other and regular cellar bonuses. so for maximum preservation you'll want to them all.

its afat fetishgroup, i dont trust half of them to keep it in their pants and i dont trust the other half to behave in a chan environment
i also know it'd just end with me in a ghost town. again.

you make the architecture joke but no, no.
>the farmer is the unreliable one, he kinda does building but he's finished exactly two builds over ~5 servers. he was the blacksmith for the first server and we had regular tool shortages, we also had to beg him to work on iron and steel. also has a bad habit of not listening.
>the chef doesnt even try to build even when i tell him to at least make an attempt. also cooks "just enough" (i'll just say he's motivated by starving sounds)
>the lumberjack, makes good progress on his builds but he was a no show for the last server.
>everyone else has come and gone between servers and does the other jobs. but none of them have ever finished a good build either.
im the only one that really makes finished buildings. at least i try to while blacksmithing/mining for 5 people and exploring for better ruins blueprints because nobody else will even try doing either of those things.
next time i boot up the server for them im probably going to put up a reminder that says "dont know what to do? just build something" and see if that gives better results for the server's lifespan (it wont)

i get that nog's bad too but when i say peninsula i mean it.
the landmass that was connected to it was more or less just copper, lead, sulfur, and black coal. had to sail elsewhere for everything else.
there are no translocators in this snippet of the map.
and to top off the peninsula was bear and wolf territory, we made pits but they just kept spawning for some reason.

thats scaled 1:4. for comparison here's the area around spawn on the nOG map upload from last thread at 25% zoom.
the surrounding landmasses are notably closer and there's a translocator within a reasonable distance.

You don't get it. Do you really spend 20 minutes hovering over your cooking pot, slowly, painfully sucking up 1 meal at a time for something that's not even worth it? Being at max satiation last like a nanosecond and you only get heals when your full, correct? So you're carrying 4 meals and then having to wait for the optimal time to eat them while your HP is still not regening? I'd rather just carry a stack of vegetables and/ or bread so I can always be in control of the silly bar, which is also a more efficient use of my inventory space and takes way less time to get together.
Think about it. The cooking to crock gameplay loop (start the clock):
>grab logs from your storage chest
>put them on the fire
>put the cooking pot on fire
>grab your meat or whatever your faggy little dish is and put in the pot.
>wait, forgot to grab my torch to light the pot
>go get it and light the pot
>wait
>suck up the meal
>repeat 4 times
>look outside
>sun went down
vs
>harvest vegetables
>go exploring
>>

>spend 20 minutes hovering over your cooking pot, slowly, painfully sucking up 1 meal at a time

Your scenario assumes that you have a large amount of vegetable available, even if it's not hard to achieve later. The point of cooking is that it doubles the effectiveness of food. This is a scaling and efficiency issue.
But yes, of course you won't see the benefit if you're someone who unironically uses a full day to cook 4 fucking servings.
>repeat 4 times

I've made it to iron finally but the process of turning iron blooms into iron ingots is slow and costly, I assume the game now wants me to find some place very high up to settle and build windmills so I can use the power generated to automate a helvehammer and other stuff like querns. Any mountain is mostly fine, no? I've ran into a few icy plateaus and I'm curious if it's going to make much of a difference if I build windmills in a mountain close to where my base is or if I build windmills is a mountain further down south (or up north for that matter)

I tried searching all around my base for black coal, and have only found it in miniscule amounts, which isn't feasible to dig for. I know it's likely to spawn close to the surface and in caves, but all my caves are filled with lead and garbage like that.

Newb here.
I made it to september, if only because the land provides during summer.
Chickens are dumb, I feed them berry mush but it looks like an incubating chicken timer is reset each time they get scared. Eggs are even dumber - I once sat for a whole 'apocalyptic' night with only one egg that I can't cook for food. Thankfully dumb chickens shat out one extra egg right on the grass in the morning.
I have embraced the soup and I hate bushmeat. I'm starving for protein, a blackguard shouldn't live like a sissy hobo vegetarian but here I am. Hunting seems impossible unless it's a bear I can trap in a hole and spear. In youtube videos I saw players just running after a target and spearing it but for some reason I can't replicate that while wearing no armor and sneaking to get closer. I am living in a hilly pine forest area, animals are already pretty rare (or I can't see them in all those fucking leaves) but it seems like I have to invest in a bow.
Bees are nice but are very loud, I had to move them further away from the house only to not hear a very loud buzzing when inside. Jams are nice. I can stomach reed farming but the fact that empty skeps do not stack in my inventory is a step too far. How is From Golden Combs mod? Not too overcomplicated?
I have found stupid elusive stuff to make useless (since I already had tin bronze from the ground deposit) bismuth bronze and made a pick for a story quest. Will I do fine in the archives if I will be wearing brown bear set, a bismuth bronze falx and tin bronze shield? I now wear wooden lamellar since I can repair it and my cloth situation is dire.
>>
>>2209436
>but it looks like an incubating chicken timer is reset each time they get scared
Doesn't reset, it just pauses. Keep chicken coops far. Also timer only starts when there's 3 eggs in the henbox. I personally don't find any reason to rush gen 10 chickens. Eggs is a good source of food. Give them flax grains and they poop out eggs. 24 eggs gives you 4 servings of scrambled eggs that fills up your hunger bar to 90% when 0.
Hunting is difficult, which is why we added mods to make it easier. Like Better Forest which reduces the shrubbery in a forest. Footprints and Blood Trails so you can track animals much easier. Make a bow and arrow, it makes hunting easier. If you have the mods for it, then crossbows are also good.
FromGoldenCombs is a nice mod for bees. There's a low tier beehive made out of clay. It's a pain in the ass to make but at lease you don't need to keep harvesting reeds. They don't stack in the inventory either.
Get bronze armor for the story stuff. Unless you modded your game, then I would wait till iron.
>>
>>2209441
>Hunting is difficult, which is why we added mods to make it easier. Like Better Forest which reduces the shrubbery in a forest. Footprints and Blood Trails so you can track animals much easier.
You mean mods that make hunting trivial
The only mod for hunting you need is Good Hunting which just increases the rewards from vanilla hunting. No cheat blood trail or foot prints needed, you just need to get good at spear chucking and eventually archery
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>2209450
Blood Trail would be immersive if it made animals leave blood splotches on the ground a-la the footprints mod, but as it stands right now it's literally a super saturated red marker that shows you exactly where the animal is. That's not immersive, that's cheating
>>
>>2209441
>Also timer only starts when there's 3 eggs in the henbox.
Yeah, I have 3 boxes with 3 eggs each and two hens. Eh, I'll wait in hopes that they will hatch something and give me meat. My winter prep atm looks like some jam, cabbage, turnips, and a handful of basedbeans.
>Give them flax grains
If only I had more than two flax seeds.
>Get bronze armor for the story stuff. Unless you modded your game, then I would wait till iron.
I have killed lots of angry pelmeni and snipers while I was digging, burned my copper falx pretty quick, but most of them were of a 'surface' tier. Are enemies much tougher in the story dungeon? The only mod I have that maaaybe could affect it is Better Ruins.

Dinos are probably getting cut anyways since they're holding on by a thread (separate mod to patch them to work on 1.21) and spawn in massive laggy quantities. Toolsmith and Smithing Plus can probably be added over woodworking if they have a compatibility issue. I have wanted to try butchering so that will be a fun addition I think. I'm also adding more "fun" tedium mods like CropsV2 and removing cave-ins / adding new cave gen since exploration will be a bigger task than vanilla.

I'd just do 14x14, but a greenhouse only increases temp by 5c. So it's great buffer that let's you squeeze out a harvest as winter sets in or plant earlier as winter sets in, but you won't be planting DURING winter. The only way that happens is if you enable underground farming and plant at/near the mantle. If you absolutely need food during winter you have to hunt or butcher livestock.

The usual. The dishonesty and whimsical nature of Vintage Story's game design. Why not just make North mean West and South mean East? Why is water even wet in the game? see the problem is that they've already pushed it beyond that point by collectively cheering for kirk's death when he was the "lets just sit down and talk" guy.
they dont WANT to negotiate and come to even terms, they've already proven that they'll just do anything to get their way and trying to be the nice guy will only get you killed
the only possible path forward is violent extermination, they cannot be allowed to attain power ever again.

Surface ORE bits (not just copper) are indeed guaranteed to have ore down below but it's not always THAT in the surface.
The best thing you do is to make a prospector pick (there's a mold for that) and then you can look for better ore deposits. Hell if you are luck enough you can even start with bronze tools if you find tin bits.

There are way too many fucking caveholes on the ground. You can't be collecting anything in peace on the surface because a fucking bowthorn decided to spawn in one and hit you for 40% aimbot damage for miles away.
The early game stone age experience truly is fucking dogshit.

>zero function besides the tool rack
Maybe it's me, but I think what makes for the best decor is what makes the room feel lived in. With how many items you can put on a surface or lean against the wall there's no reason not to. A kitchen in VS feels a lot like a real kitchen because you have your pots and bowls and jugs on the shelves. Maybe a knife nearby as well. Makes sense to fancy up a fireplace or an oven, but you don't need to go out of your way to add random stuff to clutter it up.
Same goes for a living room. It's more likely than not the hub to all your other spaces, so there's already variation just based off of that - which wall looks outside so it can have a window, which will have room for chests and tools, where do your doors go? I think it's how you bring the place together that makes the details stand out. What kind of lighting do you want to have and where will you place it? A chandelier and with pictures on the walls? Torch holders and a fancier ceiling? You can play a lot with verticality too. Add a hay loft or a half-story with crates, or a bed and a lantern.
This may sound weird but I often think about it like you'd think about rooms in the Sims. You don't put antlers on a mount on the bathroom. Even if you add useless decor it'll be a towel rack or a laundry box.

cluttered, cozy rooms that feel lived in are the best, but they don't work well if you make the rooms too large
>>
>>2217516
Hard agree, though it does depend on the clutter. I think too many players want to make their room resemble real life, despite knowing full well that no player would ever interact with half the items and furniture in the room. I know that even in the first few versions of minecraft people made their stair chairs and pressureplate tables, just because of the novelty of it, but I think that's more fair in a true sandbox where you're already harshly limited. In VS to me filling every room with useless crap is less excusable because you have all the alternatives in the world not to have to do that.

to be honest most people I played MP with couldn't build something nice even if their life depended on it and were more into the game because of the progression, buildfags that are willing to go to enough detailing to make builds feel lived in are very rare
most players are fine living in plain wooden cubes until they get steel and then they quit because the game is basically over for them
>>
>>
>>2217534
yeah same. I thought it was my fault for playing withfaggots and tranniesbecause their mindset was just so outta whack, and I don't even meanERPit was just plain childish and focused on tangible gains over status symbols like a well done build. it was eerie.

My complaint with the top pic is the "lake" on the bottom of the pic severely restricts building area but more important the angles, requiring a weird structure/town layout. If this game was something like valheim where you could rotate structures more than 90 degrees increments it wouldn't bother me. Alternatively I could fill it in, I just really hate terraforming in this game I find it entirely uninteresting and unfun. Maybe I'll just use creative to fuck with it cause it's really killing my desire to build around it.

Best you can do is use meteoric steel, with the texture swap if you prefer the look on the right.
>>
>>2218847
NTA but I want one that's halfway between the mod and vanilla, I don't like either one that much with only a very slight preference for the mod because the white vanilla texture makes me think it's painted rather than a metal.
>>
Playing without mods, I'm considering upping my damage in the world settings.
Now that I've learned how to -fight-, which basically is just either kiting or trapping the mobs in some way in that game, the mobs just feel like unnecessary HP sponges. Maybe I could try to up their damage as a balance but honestly I feel like they do enough, you don't have the luxury to get hit by anything most of the time anyway.
>>
>>2218891
>Maybe I could try to up their damage
I would not recommend this or any time you run into a higher tier enemy they will turn your asshole inside out. Most of them can already 1-2 shot you if you don't have plate.

>just went through all the process of acquiring my first clay oven
>made my first bread
I have to admit, this shit feels extremely rewarding. Not a feeling you'd get from the other cube game(s).
That being said I just made my first pie right after too. Maybe I'm wrong but doesn't this effectively make all other method of meal making obsolete? Except for maybe the bushmeat that you can only cook in the firepit, I don't see any reason why you'd want to go back to making crock food. Bread and pies are more filling and have way better preservation values.
Also yes, that other anon was right. Once you enter copper age the amount of new things you can do are just completely game-changing.

Crock foods last longer than breads and pies though?
I play with the Expanded Foods mod but I'm pretty sure scrambled eggs are in the vanilla game. They're so easy to make, and if you have a bee farm then it's easy to seal them.
>>
>>
>>
>>2219302
Sealed crocks last much longer than pies or bread.
They also freeze your hunger bar for 30 seconds for every 100 satiety, so you need to eat less.
It's a downside when you are building up your nutrition, but when they are maxed you won't need to eat that much to maintain them.

I can post the audio if you want. I was made to work 10 days in a row and lost someone close to me so I was too depressed on my days off. I have a four day weekend coming up or I might call in sick today. I came to the thread to update the mods for nuog. I really want to catch up to the nuog lore and work on my town.
I am updating mods right now and i'm going to test the requests from the last thread.

I ran some tests with chisel tools lite. Due to popular demand, it has been added to nuog so people can do better chiseling. I also updated the mods. Your first attempt at joining nuog might crash you but the second should work. I was running tests of all the updates on a backup of nuog and it all seems to be fine with the lite.

I wish the nutrition system wasn't boiled down to just a bar you have to prevent from getting to zero
I think it'd be really interesting if you got different kinds of buffs depending on the food you eat, like extra ranged/melee damage, faster movespeed, better tool efficiency, less temporal stability drainage, more warmth, etcetera etcetera. The extra hp if you have a balanced diet is nice but there is so much more they could do with food and the nutrition system

I honestly don't think they'll ever truly get around to adding woodworking or abandoning the 3x3 crafting grid. The more shit they add the bigger a pain in the ass it gets to go back and redo every single recipe. That, and half the shitcord will just bitch about making the game more complicated since for some inane reason they mostly play for "vibes" with the highlights being the lore and decorating their quirky cottage. Rone could add 50 new outfits and normies would cream themselves over the amount of "content" they're getting.

I think the new storageslop is cool since rone effectively rewrote placing mechanics but it definitely shouldn't be a main focus of this update, which was supposed to be a mechanical overhaul.
The RC is coming at the end of this month most likely since that's when TOPS is scheduled to wipe, so I guess we'll see.
