I'm on city of heroes lately. WoW private servers have had some impressive development but they lack the feeling of persistence to make them feel like real MMOs. Coh has people doing new content with characters they've played for 10 years and thats what this genre is really about.

Foxhole is getting a major expansion introducing airplanes and improved naval stuff in a couple of weeks. It's an amazing game and the next war will be total chaos when meta tries to find a new equilibrium and people break the new stuff.

For WoW i mostly play conquest of azeroth, i like Ascension alot. They have added a ton of new quests to vanilla wow.
For city of heroes while there are three or four public servers homecoming is the only one with notable population. I like the roleplaying server. Higher quality characters

i dont think pvp works all that well in world of warcraft. The game needs a different patch cycle , a different community and a few more meta systems to support pvp better. Acension wow has some good pvp ideas but the community does not use them. The only truly impressive thing about WoW pvp is dueling. Why does every game not have 'duel anywhere'

WoW has a very good game engine for pvp. needs like, forced mandantory PVP, enemy faction invading instances, way more battlegrounds especially AV style battlegrounds. I like the zone pvp events but they are all very very undercooked. The PVE maps in wow esp the world map are very very nice the battlegrounds could be much better. WoW pvp at the 500 vs 500 scale actually works better than you would think it works in vanilla. Class/spec balance is a big issue in pvp in WoW. I am surprised there is not a server that is only battlegrounds and 10 new battlegrounds.
The best pvp is usually during a prepatch event like the ones for wotlk or legion. Wow is too much about ganking and gear and not enough about skill in pvp. The game still pretending to be a pvp game holds pvp back too.
PVP systems that have alot of casuals or no people at all like CoX or FF14 can be pretty fun.
