Genre used to be much better in 2010-2016 to companies had money to invest in such games.
That's also when War Thunder has grown significantly. Then the genre actually died down because WW2 became a niche genre for a limited player base and as such the devs needed to maintain their income despite the lower player base.
So they turned War Thunder more and more pay to win, brought in retarded military air forces (Israel, China, etc), jets, apache helicopters, which killed the endgame gameplay and turned it into a money furnace for neckbeards.
Reason no company wants to make a competitor is because there's no money to be made. You could come up with some generic battle royale zoomer game and still have a higher player base.
