I love the girls in Brown Dust 1 and this, but the sequel gameplay just wasn't clicking with me. I'm not sure I like the little contained stories/worlds and playing it on emu didn't feel good. I don't know why.

I am that anon, and the game story is super easy since they give you 2 of the 3 mythics within a few days of starting + Fabian
They also give enough materials to level all the characters you need
You will still need more to max your characters, but story hasn't been an issue so far

For the mythics, I wen't with the support and the warrior. The mage also seems pretty great from what I've seen (borrowing from a friend), but mages need 1 round setup by default. There are ways around it, but they're less obvious or available to new players.

You also get tons of extra gems since purchases with real money are completely disabled. Starting now, I expect I'll be able to get all of the available costumes before EoS just in case they take them out

Full disclosure I just started playing last week and know barely anything about the meta

I played BD1 so I'm used to having males everywhere in the story, I don't see any problem with having males in story, playable or NPC. This just reminds me how different it is back then, when BD1 was released, mixed gender gacha seems normal, I don't recall any loud "anti-males" in any older gacha games... or maybe I just don't remember.

About changing the main cast, I guess I kind of fine with it. After all, BD1 have 2 group of Main Characters, Captain and Adel, they both follow their own story before working together in Chapter 3. As long as Lathel, Justia, Scheherazade, and Gray still exist and active in story then I'm fine with new cast.

This seems like the reverse of BD1. BD1's Captain (self-insert) being replaced by Adel. In BD2, Lathel will be replaced by self-insert.

I think I have more problems with the reasoning behind the new story direction, apparently it's because players doesn't want male-female relationship and having males appear in story because it makes them "uncomfortable".

It's a really shit move but one that was obvious would happen sooner or later, especially after they first introduced the Bunnies and started attracting more coomers and kowtowing to them more and more. Add to that how popular self insert waifu games are, and, if anything, it's surprising they haven't done it yet.
Was hoping they wouldn't go so far, but after a while it became obvious to me that it would happen sooner or later, and even if it doesn't happen now after the last survey, I have little doubt it will sometime in the future anyway.
