Does anyone have a guide for how to get the Japanese version of disgaea RPG? I want to play it for more disgaea content to fill in the gaps between games.
Also how free to play friendly is it? I'm used to blue archive where premium currency is dumped on you daily but know that isn't the norm, I hope free to play is at least manageable though.

a bit more tricky. You want to download the DMM launcher, create an account and launch the game from it every time. Why is it tricky? DMM is jp-only, so you will have to navigate your way around it using a translator, google lens should be good. Once you get the launcher though, depending on your country, you might have to download a vpn in order to launch the program in the first place. Softether is the best free vpn you can use for that, and you will need it every time you want to launch DRPG

very. Every banner has some sort of pity, usually it's 30 multis, and the banners themselves aren't too bad with their rates. They give out a good amount of currency every month, and as a new player you have TONS of ways to get free NQs (the pull currency) and grab any character you like for a while. The only unfriendly thing they've started doing recently is paid-only banners, but those are usually only for old collab characters, every new character is always available in the gacha as a f2p. As far as building characters goes, the game is amazingly generous as in you can grind items as much as you want and leveling up characters and their WMs / Skills is pretty easy, you can compete in every single gamemode as long as you know which character is useful for which content
T. I consistently place top 300 in pvp, top 500 in raids and I own the single strongest Dark Angel Girl Laharl and RK Girl Laharl in the server as a f2p player
Ask in here whenever you need to, we or at least I are always happy to help new players find their footing

I really hope 8 fully incorporates costumes as a mechanic including older ones like bunny Seraphina and Ceefore Etna cosplay. They have a wonderful bank to go off of from DRPG and modeling them shouldn't be too hard. They could even give them unique unlock conditions to give a nice reward to play for. NIS seems to be getting things together lately even appearing in the Nintendo direct so I feel optimistic that there is a bright future ahead.

I usually slack around with my Gachas but this current banner convinced me to lock in on demon crystal procurement. Ao and the others featured on this banner make up one of the most enticing spectacles I have ever witnessed in recent times and I want to get as much as possible out of this golden banner.

well yeah, as you noticed, gorgeous banners work a bit differently. There's no real pity, but you do get a lot of bingo chances. The catch is the only unit you can get is the recolor, if you want the original version you have to get lucky on the banner. But getting the alt through bingo is actually pretty easy I feel, I never had to go beyond 10 multis before getting one.
Another thing worth considering is that Gorgeous units boost pvp coins drop during their event, which I think is still worth considering somewhat
also gorgeous units are usually useless, sans some exceptions like this where ao is still a somewhat good dps even if powercrept already

I have a hard question: Should I try getting into Disgaea?
I've had something of a passing interest in the series for a while and feel like I should make a decision one way or another.
In general lines I like monster girls (and boys), turn based combat, stories with a more comedic tone and big numbers.
Also I like Laharl's design and, what I perceive to be, personality.
I feel like I'm most likely to give 5 or 7 a go.
5 because I believe it has best witch Metallica as a dlc character and 7 because making the monster girls big speaks to me too.
But I wonder if this is even a can of worms I should open, and if I should start form game 1

The things you liked basically describe the entire series so yes you'll probably enjoy them. The stories can get serious towards the end but they're still wacky throughout.

As for starting with the first game, it has a lot of charm and a great story but it is by far the worst to play. On one hand it's a slog to go back to if you start with anything else, but I've also had people drop the series entirely because they started with D1 and were bored to death. That said, it's the game with Laharl and the plot has some of the highest highs of the series imo. There's a "remaster" of sorts on PS4, switch and mobile that plays better but replaces some of the art and classes, it's still a fine way to play the game but it lacks the PS2 soul. The PSP version is a nice straight port with bonus content, PC is somewhere in between those 2. There's also a DS version but it's kind of lacking.

If you're on PC, the rest of the series is at your fingertips (except 3 and DD2 but give it some time). 5 is a great place to start gameplay-wise but what I've seen of the writing so far makes me want to die, 4 has a good balance of gameplay and story, 2 is my personal favorite and I think it has a great balance as well. Haven't played 6 or 7 yet but I hear 6 has good story and 7 has good gameplay, I just wish they kept the sprites.

Personally I think the games are great on portable systems, so if you have a switch or a PSP/Vita and can get the games on there, you're in for some comfy times.

Maybe I'm biased because I started with 7 but I personally like the 3d models, the ones shown in the upcoming Phantom Brave game look especially beautiful and I'm sure by Disgaea 8 they will improve more. You can also upskirt some characters too lol. I kind of do hope they make them slightly less chibi in the future though as while they have a decent balance right now, it still can make some characters look disproportionate. I think a 3d version of Harada's regular art would be nice and still be chibi enough to make 3d modelling simpler.

depends. As far as gameplay and resources go, it's always a good time especially after all the qol updates and events. But if you're interested in some older characters, they might only be available through paid banners, and previous collab characters are essentially non-existent now since collab reruns are impossible. Banners are usually veeery f2p friendly and quartz abundant, just know to save your pity in case a character you really like comes out

You mean like clearing it? You can literally auto it with a level 5k laharl alone, it's pretty much quartz city and the story itself is quite interesting, though it's clearly not where the bulk of the game is since we always get one big event every month and there's never a dead week per se

The selection ticket has you roll a 10-roll with almost all non collab characters, and you can select which ones from the 10 you want to keep ( max of 10, so choose carefully ), then roll a second 10-roll, add more characters to your selection, and then a third and last roll to add more characters to your final 10 selection.
You can't go back to previous rolls, so make sure it counts.

you need paid NQs. In a nutshell, every pack you buy from any of the shops gives you a certain amount of free and paid (which are indicated in brackets) NQs, and only the latter can be used in these types of banners. I'm pretty sure if you were to buy packs from their official site, it would cost you a bit less and net you a little more paid NQs compared to the in-game shop.

you can catch up fairly quickly, there's more ways to get rainbow and golden prinnies and they added some QoLs like equipment alchemy pity or innocent boosting being much more streamlined. The usual flow every month is:
>event, with its own story and hard stages you can unlock every day with keys, and of course the usual event shop
>raid, which is faster to clear compared to global since it's now its own thing with its own stages, a lot of goodies and a little epilogue for the event preceding it
>etna defense, for etna points
>sugoroku, a game board where you earn dice by clearing stages and claiming them daily, there's 2 sides for the stages and they all require you to use specific characters based on their weapon forte. This gamemode also always comes with a banner that contains 2 rerun units, usually getting buffed, 1 for each side, and pity is at 10 multis
New units are usually pretty busted, but you better look them up or ask in here before pulling if you're actively looking for a specific role and not a favorite character

this isn't too much of an issue nowadays, pretty much everybody has a cheap AoE attack. Usually just maxing their NEs should be enough to make it work, Zed isn't too useful though so I don't know if you want to actually invest in him. If you need more SP, you should consider alching your weapons.

flat? It's never worth it to upgrade a generic unit, not this early into the game anyways, unless you really like them
And unique weapons have kinda stopped being a thing outside of collabs, and even then they're never that useful usually. Your best bet is alching / looking for an SP generating unit

I'd also suggest either downloading the wiki app which is sort of up to date (usually behind by one month or so) or check the discord

well trans adell lol isn't actually bad per se. He's a decent fire support, and he also does give a liiiiittle sp to the party (once... at the beginning of a battle. Kinda bad).
The real issue is that he's a fire support for a gamemode (raids) that
1. you won't be able to seriously care about for a while, at least until you get a decent elemental team going
2. already has like 1 bajillion support units, and adell isn't even too great of a support.
His kit is very strange, he has raid support capabilites but he's built like an outdated main dps. He has a 1000 ag move for some reason, his debuff skill costs a whopping 45 sp and its damage rank is S. And he came out well after SS units started appearing, so...
I mean you can certainly do worse than him, but he probably shouldn't be your priority right now

These badass banners are notoriously awful, the 0.3% pull rate with 1% on every 5th 10pull is atrocious, I got really lucky this time, but I fully expected to go the full 300 pulls.

Ah, I see. yeah, whenever you roll on banners like that, you get tickets for every roll, which you can exchange for the unit of the banner ( 300 tickets, that's why pity is 300 pulls, in rare cases it's 200 ) or character crystals which you can use to +1 characters

I have two full parties worth of Etnas, so I don't use Saintess Etna anymore, but the first Saintess Etna had a revive, which sadly didn't count for no allies killed requirement, and iirc swimsuit Saintess Etna was really good? I haven't really used the super Saintess Etna alt, but I imagine she's Saintess Etna but stronger.
Haven't looked into the new one yet.

The saintessesessess are pretty good, the two monster units are fine on the account of being monster units, which are always few and far in-between. Swimsuit S. Etna is a pretty solid water attacker and she recently got some buffs.
Newest Saint Etna is great, a solid dps and an actually alright support unit
on an unrelated note, I think I spotted anon on the discord... they were asking about the 7* ticket over there as well. Call me Detective Girl Laharl I guess!
