Driftsmelting will continue be a giant pain in the ass for as long as you can't throw away multiple in one action. I've been trying to get special boost for 2 months now. If you are using that site you can use its dps calculator, also it just looks underwhelming, the ammo on both poison and paralysis shots are too low. But if you like it and it allows you to kill 8 stars on time, should be fine.

A pure raw weapon only gets you so far though. You won’t be able to kill most 10*s with it. I don’t mind it as a longterm player because this is a nice jump in progress for my autism goal of getting all gold G10 weapon medals (10 G10s each) but I didn’t even think of how this ruins the new player progression

I've been on vacation and haven't been able to play much but there's a lot going on with this event. the mizu feature gives me hope of finally crafting a 10.5 water weapon, and the hope tickets will allow me to finally unlock a weapon style. does anyone know how many tickets it takes to fully upgrade a hope weapon? mhn.quest doesn't have the event info.

I had a chance to try riftborne barioth but I ran out of potions right away. he's really difficult to see at night! I want trial quests back.

AEDs have much less animation commitment and better accuracy than SAED

You can see how inaccurate SAED is in this one on my 2nd spec around 1 minute. Because lock one doesn't make you pivot mid animation, even a slight monster position adjustment makes you miss half your phials. The physical hit from AED is also that you're bettter off spamming that on top of charged axe attacks

I swear, this game tracks if you're stationary, and spawns monsters in just outside your reach if it thinks you are to try and bait you into buying wander shit. I don't know about this. in any case none of the monsters are so spontaneous that a bit of input lag should make a difference. they literally glow red before attacking. once you get the hang of it 5 potions/day is plenty.

but yes, the game is grindy in the extreme

Whats the optimal way for building the extract meter? Just hit until i get 3 bars on my bug then do an extraction? Perfect evades get you 3 instant extract charge so i guess PE spam would be optimal

the mark attacks also give you a stamina point so you should only build 2 stamina and then mark attack. you need 8 total for the buff so do 3 + 3 + 2.

also note that the bug hits once for each stamina point so once you are powered up you still want to gather stamina. and the SP will fill your stamina but only if the bug is not currently attacking. perfect evades are good but it's not that big of a deal with Power glaives because they only have 3 points.

of course you will not usually be attacking a training dummy and so dodges will be part of the rotation but I think it's best to avoid aerial attacks entirely unless you have an aerial kinsect. maybe with skyward it becomes good though...

I notice that the diving wyvern attack will trigger the powder attack 4 times instead of the 3 you get with a grounded marking attack. so I would power up, build 3 stamina, and then vault into diving wyvern. or even better, just use SP as soon as you power up.

jumping advancing slash does not increase powder damage btw

I think these 10k hits are from valor + fighting spirit, replacing valor with vital thunder shouldnt be a huge comparative boost. This is valor 3 with 700 raw boost, vital thunder 3 at 120HP from daily cheers and built in health boost 1 from thunder anja chest would be 960 elemental boost. And this is while ignoring the unreliableness from requiring max hp to get that boost. Also the spec bar fill from valor is still undefeated in utility, with how much it synergizes with fighting spirit, and gives instant 70% progress to another 50k damage nuke

i'm at "chapter 2: shimmering swamp" and hr19
zooming all the way out most of the large monsters i can see are all 2* with like half a dozen 1*, three 4* and one 5* sprinkled in but they're pretty far away
none of them are 2* kulus which i need for the quest headpiece, i retardedly crafted the dual blades before the headpiece thinking another 2* kulu was just a short walk away

higher star monsters will still drop low rarity parts. if you're looking for the rarity 2 part then know that you can get it from any rarity of kulu including 1*. you can look at the drop table for each star level in the monster guide.

the guide will also tell you which parts are breakable. each broken part gives another reward so it is a good idea to know what they are and target them. some higher rarity materials are only included in the rewards for certain part breaks (in addition to the base rewards).

wanted to main dual blades as usual but ended up trying out ig and sticking with it since it's pretty fun, which armor sets would make it better? i haven't bothered making anything past the kulu set yet (all my mats went into upgrading the bone staff into a hard bone rod 1, about to overgrade it to a 2)
also should i bother with hunt-a-thons even if none of the reward would help me? ended up doing and winning a zinogre one by complete accident and without chugging all my potions

Hunt a thons have global multiplayer with 2p HP scaling. There’s also extra rewards and usually 5 of the same monster, so if you’re looking to grind for specific monsters, its like 20 monsters worth of materials. Partbreak also scales down with player amount so at 4p its not uncommon to manage to break everything.

At 8* and 9* it also becomes and amazing source of R6 rares

most non-guarding weapons don't need comfort skills including insect glaive so just build damage
right now you should try to make a weapon for each element and build armor that gives you elemental attack
it's also a good idea to make only one armor piece per monster so that you can upgrade it without spreading your materials thin

one last tip: some armor pieces have hidden skills that unlock as you increase their grade. for instance this wroggi helm shows that it will unlock driftsmelt slots as you upgrade it, but what it doesn't show is that a second point of power prolonger will be added at G6. it's pretty common for a 1pt skill to increase to 2pts or even 3, and there's no way to tell without looking it up online. apparently Niantic has never found a way to show this in the UI. I use mhn.quest for setbuilding and to inspect armor skills.

also, does artillery really affect the powder explosions?

mhn insect glaive is fun but there are a lot of little things that frustrate me about it. in particular:

often I want to engage with leaping slash and instead the game will just rising slash and hit nothing or hit a shitzone
I always want to end the combo with tornado slash but there's no way to purposefully do so
I miss sidestep slash (wilds) and kinsect slash (rise) which add more maneuverability
no way to forward dodge in midair so if the monster moves away the aerial combo is dead
and finally, for all that the simplified buff gathering is nice, it still feels painfully slow for short hunts and I wish I could use the charged harvest attack to gather multiple buffs at once and get it over with

it's better than the mhgu glaive though

They all have the same reward and the useful rewards go up to 120. Above that it's just small amounts of zenny and grinding pass levels for the love of the game

The primary carrot in the passes for me are the extra box space right at level 1, and layered cosmetics which are spread out all around the 120 levels.

There's also a couple Wyvern Gem Shards for like 15 total throughout the pass

I suggest just browsing through the list yourself to see if you can find something good. If you do every daily + weekly event quest, you should be able to hit like level 200 still. You can always wait until the end of the season -1 day and then buy the premium plan, and you will still get every reward.

Yeah that's the most cost effective MTX by far. If you only buy the premium plan it's just €4 a month while getting insane value.
