Not my playthrough but I have a friend who's playing Pokemon for the first time in his 30s.
The guy genuinely struggles with Fire red, he picked Charmander as his starter and got stuck trying to beat Brock and Misty.
It's interesting how things that I take for granted are completely alien concepts to him, like the Rock type resisting fire or Grass being effective against rock.
