What canceled retro games would you wish have been officially released the most?

Dragon Hopper. Might be an unpopular opinion but I think Virtual Boy games are nostalgic and comfy.

This and all the other VB stuff in development.
And original version of Mother 3. Maybe Banjo-Threeie if it actually had begun development before the sell out.

I'm over it by now but probably Megaman Legends 3.
If it had to be Sonic, it'd be the Sonic Adventure version for the Sega Saturn where they had cute chubby Sonic before they went with annoying rad Sonic for the Dreamcast

That game would've sucked but the soundtrack would've been really neat judging from the music that remained of it.

Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin 2... I love the 1st title, easily the best 2D Spider-Man title and the best overall before Neversoft made their classic in 2000. A sequel would've been amazing, but it got scrapped for X-Men... maybe we could've gotten things like the Symbiote, which only the 8-Bit port of the title got for some reason, on Nightmare difficulty, BS.

Sort of.
"Kirby for Nintendo GameCube" (aka Kirby GCN, also goes by other names) was actually three separate games.
>the one shown at E3 2005, which was essentially a sequel to Kirby Super Star featuring Helpers and allegedly even had a game menu. The concepts were carved up and used in subsequent platformers.
>a full 3D game. This looks to have been a prototype for Forgotten Land more or less.
>a cell-stylized 2D game with ability gauges of some kind. Looks to be a successor to the Dafk Matter games, but despite being the one that got the farthest in development, it's the one we know the least about. Might have actually been for Wi if the widescreen screenshots are anything to go by.
HAL was striving to make a console game to succeed Kirby 64, but they kept rebooting development after they felt lost after the departure of Masahiro Sakurai (and Shinichi Shimomura). The fourth attempt, for Wii, was the one they eventually released.

The Namco RPG that was going to feature the protagonists from all their most popular games and never got past the concept stage cause Namco wasn't interested and told the devs to make 3D Pac-Man instead. (which was the also cancelled Ghost Zone)

Various cancelled Pinball machines.
People say The Pinball Circus is a gimmick that gets old fast, and wouldn't be good for the home pinball owner's market. Which is true. I don't care. Write some new modes for it. Revamp the code. Figure it out. I want to play it.

The plan for KOTOR 3 was dumb. Revan dies after you (the exile) and he are captured and brought before the Sith super evil mega bad guy. Then you infiltrate the sith and kill them from within.
Not to mention KOTOR 2 is massively overrated. Revan’s massive trick to turn millions of Jedi dark? The trolley problem. I shit you not, Atton himself says it to you if you get deep enough in his personal quest. I double took when I first heard it.

Definitely not that one lmao. They couldn't even get a working tech demo, the video they showed off at E3 was some shit they rushed together while begging Sega to let them release it on PC instead of Saturn.

BFA also has a place in 2000s internet culture history, and nowadays is probably just as notable for that as it was an unreleased game that anybody was actually looking forward to back in the day (actually probably moreso).

Im really disappointed the experiments for a 3D Sonic didnt happen on the Saturn. I love the art style that Sonic R and Jam had. And I know I'll be crucified for it but I actually like Sonic R.

>Castlevania: The Bloodletting (32X)
People still call it that? I really hate the fandom wiki for being this stubborn.
>The 32X game was reportedly a version/follow-up of Rondo / Dracula X that was supposed to come out around the time as the SNES version, apparently targeting American sensibilities; some team members went on to work on SotN, but to IGA's recollection, it had no title by the time it was canceled.
>"The Bloodletting" is the subtitle seen in a CES'95 Konami brochure for a Castlevania game in development for PlayStation and Saturn. This is believed to be an early title for Symphony of the Night before more focus was put on the PlayStation platform, which tracks with interviews saying it had multiple working titles and suggesting that it was at an early point intended to be connected to Bloodlines instead of Rondo.
For some reason these two points get conflated all the time.

Honestly it was for the best that Sonic Xtreme got cancelled, the game really didn't look any good. Just like with Metroid 64, as much as I am curious as to how it would have turned out all the released footage just looked really bad, both Sonic Adventure and Metroid Prime were much better jumps. Sometimes it's just better to skip a generation rather than release subpar products that just end up harming the brand.

Tweets of images taken from off-screen that feature never-before-seen content such as the boss character in-game shared by SF6 director Nakayama in 2021, suggesting a build of the game still existed at least up to that point.

The emoji on the character select image is allegedly obscuring a KoF crossover character. Employees who had departed from SNK following the bankruptcy and joined Capcom helmed development of the game.
