I'm liking Arkanoid, but it's far too simplistic and shallow. Are there any brick breakers with actual depth and mechanics?

dx ball 2 is widely considered the best of the genre
>>
>>12349992
There have been many, but I think the Arkanoid, especially the one on the SNES is the best, especially with the mouse. The SNES mouse is surprisingly good and precise. I was impressed and use it exclusively for almost every game that utilizes it.

Arkanoid II on the IIgs is an amazing feat. Sadly that system was cluttered by lots of edutainment shovelware and half assed garbage but it has some real gems that really use the IIgs and Arkanoid II is one of them. Probably my favorite Arkanoid version of all time, it has all kinds of everything you need but nothing you don't.

Wow, not OP but didn't knew this one. Looks pretty solid, gonna give it a try. Thanks anon

ghox

genuinely the ricochet pc games too. fuck me if i remember what the definitive one is, but the base mechanics available and level editor go hard
>>
>>12350107
It's a defining game. But play II, the first one is fine and all but II is extremely fun and has all kinds of whizzy shit.

Is this an AI post? There's no Kirby's Block Ball 2
>>
>>12350261
Arkanoid II: The Revenge of Doh

YOU'RE the AI.
>>
>>12350335
But if he's the AI and we're out here then where's the caveman
>>
>>12349992
You can't go wrong with Blasterball 2
>>
BreakQuest is pretty cool. I wouldn't call it deep and I didn't care to play through it more than once, but it certainly does fun things with mechanics.
>>
this isn't related to ball busting specifically but i figured i'll ask here instead of making another thread
are there any plugins for MAME/Stella that allow me to use a logitech racing wheel as a paddle controller?
>>
try thunder and lightning on the NES. it has a very much refined NES-like gameplay, good controls and lots of extras like rockets, double-rockets, extra lifes etc, plays very good

What is it about block stacking and block breaking that tickles our brains?

Autism
>>
>>12350875
I'm completely normal and have no autistic traits, everyone I know stacked blocks as a baby then knocked them over
It's something primal

Firestriker for SNES combines Zelda with Arkanoid + pinball mechanics.

Probably this!

i'd say Break Out for the PS1, but there's some horrible input delay or whatever. i don't know how to get the PC version working

Devilish on Genesis and block kuzushi 1 and 2 on PS1

you can tell they were proud of the skeleton zipper animation since it plays at every possible moment

Fuck right off, retarded jannie wannabe!
It's from 2004.

Zoomer fag. Arkanoid is the high depth one. It's based on a game called Breakout, which is far, far more simple
>>
>>12352041
>arkanoid
>deep
It's enjoyable but only for a few minutes due to the lack of any real depth
>>
Surprised this one didn't get mentioned yet.

Kirby's Block Ball is probably the best though. And I have a soft spot for Break Out.

Is the exam mode the best way to play?

There is a based NES game like breakout with a bunch of different power ups but I can't remember it's name

yeah this game is fun, thanks for the rec! never even heard of this game before
>>

I wanted to like Firestriker, but since you have to chase the ball around in 2D space, instead of on one dimention like with a block breaker, AND you have to swing your sword for it to connect, it's just much of a pain in the ass and tough to play. You constantly moving around and your hands will get tired and you'll get frustrated.

The Poing series on Amiga is like crack and will ruin the rest of the genre for you, along with fucking your wife and killing your dog.

Yes that music is actually randomly generated lol. But far from the only interesting thing in the game.

>Arkanoid II: The Revenge of Doh
That's the best Breakout clone ever, no need to thank me for pointing this out.
>>
>>12353138
What the fuck are you talking about
>>
>>12354259
What the, that looks awesome
What are my options for playing it these days?
>>
>>12354889
UAE or real hardware.
The last time I got it to run on an emulator, though, I had to download the lha from aminet and install it on a hard disk image and I think I had to make my own startup sequence to make it run correctly. No one seems to have done an ADF or an easy install package solution for these games.
I have to say I've never been quite satisfied with Amiga emulation, something about the refresh always feels fucky, tearing all over the place and the motion is never as smooth as on a real hardware no matter how fast PC's get. I don't really get why, maybe UAE is just badly coded. It's extra annoying for Poing, for how ridiculously fast the gameplay gets.

Are the jannies EVER going to deal with Sega spammer

What's the one where you play as a guy and you shoot a cable at balls?
>>
>>12352193
2hu fans shit on this game, but honestly it's really fun. It's a shame ZUN hasn't made another in the same style.

>Pang, originally released in Japan as Pomping World and known in North America as Buster Bros.

This game's base speed is too fast, what are some that are more mellow?
>>
I hate how wrong all these games feel without a spinner
>>
>>12357018
you mean paddle
>>
>>12356702
thanks anon
>>
>>12357514
I used to say paddle but people kept making rowing jokes
>>
>>12354259
This looks and sounds really good. Wish it didn't seem like a pain in the ass to set up.
>>
>>12355690
It's a shame zun is embarrassed by all those pre windows games. Would be cool if for the 30th anniversary he gave them proper modern ports.

Play BOOYM, the best game where you break blocks with ball and paddle. Over 40 levels of action.
>>
>>12361679
Thanks, I'll have to get this. Doesn't look like a ton of paddle games on PS1 but Puchi Carat makes it worth it
