Remembering shit like this really does explain some of the freaks on deviantart.

Lammy's the best game in the series. The charts/judgment are just challenging enough to be fun, and Cool makes some kind of sense. 1's judgment is random-ass and 2's too easy and unmemorable except for the guru ant BIG song.

Romantic Karate and Noodles Are the Best are fucking bangers too. The last songs of P1 and P2 try to show Parappa's growth by giving him the master lead lines at the ending song, but they fuck up by barley choreographing the fact you need to pull your brain out of "call and response" mode and go first. That being said, "Noodles Are the Best" I think is the perfect way to show Parappa's independence and skill by so commonly and even loosely piggybacking of the rhythm of Col Noodle but writing his own lyrics. He's done this for instances of possessive phrases (You're/I'm), but in Noodles he's actually rewriting and flowing off entire bars.
That being said, Lammy doesn't have any of those switch ups, so nice. I like how co-op/vs in Lammy is even and fair by and large with is swapping system.

I'll never understand the appeal of these games. The art is ugly, the music sounds awful, and the lyrics are nonsense. Is it some kind of "so bad it's good" shit? Explain to me how this horrific amalgamation of discombobulated and schizophrenic audio/visuals is a good game.

I'm pretty good at rhythm games and I cannot beat level 2 in Parappa 1. It feels like the mechanics were the last part the devs worked on and were rushed. I've beaten Lammy and Parappa 2 and while they're more lenient, it's not by much and you're still in the dark when it comes to what the game is actually asking of you.
What were they thinking?

Not sure if that's how it works in Parappa but having played a lot of Lammy I think it counts the first press even if it's off as long as the breaks between the notes are correct.
In other words, if your first note is too early then the rest has to come out early as well.
That said the later stages are much more restrictive and actively punish for the tiniest mistakes meanwhile stage 2 is basically freestyle even without cool.

i really don't understand these "rhythm" games. you're just doing a random series of button presses. there's no actual gameplay.
>"hurrr duurrrr all games are just random button presses!"
you know what i mean faggot

I avoided the rest of the series for this exact reason. I too had the demo and same experience. I genuinely thought you were supposed to just randomly mash buttons because trying to play "normally" never worked. It wasn't until like 3 or 4 years ago a friend wanted me to play 2 with him that I realized these aren't garbage games (I still like the music in 1 the most tho)

The scale at the top of the screen does feel more like a suggestion. It's a lot easier if you just focus on the audio portion and ad libbing to the rhythm instead. That's really the only way to beat stages on Cool and unlock KT and the Sunny Funny Band.
It's also easier if you hold down Left on the D-Pad. Parappa repeats the same sound each time you press a certain button. "Check and Turn the Signals to the Left" becomes "Check an Check an Check Check Check ..." and that makes timing to the beat a lot more precise.
Playing the disc on a PS3, on a newer TV with HDMI, the timing was way off to me. Playing the remaster on PS4, the timing is completely different.

While there are some instances of fetishes, I do doubt that these "water balloon" bloating things were done with any sort of fetishistic intent. The technique of drawing characters that way likely became an animation shorthand as an easy way to depict a character inflating or getting fatter for comedy (because getting fat and bloated is indeed a source of humor, which is probably forgotten in today's society of rampant obesity and fat acceptance). It wasn't until the weird, developmentally stunted, nu-autistic kids of the 80s and 90s who obsessed over these sorts of scenes grew up and spammed DeviantArt with this shit did it become viewed as "fetish fuel."

True. Nobody gave that much of a shit that "some guy somewhere might be jacking off to it" until the internet let them get in your face about it.
In the end, though, ignoring them is the only sane option, since you'll find weirdos who jerk off to literally anything you can imagine, and plenty of stuff you probably couldn't.

The gameplay is completing a song. the button presses aren't random, they're the same every time. the challenge is maintaining the timing so the song finishes. In a game like DDR, you have to hit the buttons on the ground with your feet in time to the prompts on screen, in games like Parappa/Lammy or Guitar Hero you're hitting controller prompts. If you fuck up the timing badly enough, game over.
Check out Technic Beat if you want to see what a rhythm game looks like done a little differently

Did you know that Um Jammer Lammy has a Parappa mode in it?
You can even duke it out with Parappa in coop/vs which completely fucks up the songs.

She helped firefighters put out a fire, so she got rewarded with a gigafuck shitfuckload of pizza.
By chance, she waddles all bloated like this too close to some kind of parade of pregnant women and gets dragged into that because they think she's pregnant.
>>12353203
For me, I was trying to play it on a 3" chinkheld with side-by-side triggers and I got fucked, ha. Pressing the face buttons was fine, but the triggers fucked me.

I'm not kidding. I jacked it to that fairly odd parents episode where they all get fat. I deliberately would seek that and that ed edd n eddy episode.
And that PS3 game fat princess. Fat princess I probably jacked to hundreds of times, hottest game ever made. Basically straight pornograph to me, but hey, we're getting out of /vr/ territory here

To be fair to Lammy, the game takes place on like a really crazy, horribly stressful day where everything keeps going wrong. Like catching her at a bad time.
I also imagine offscreen she must have ran out of weed the day before, lol

No, they were always there because they didn't think anyone would be that much of a perverted freak to get turned on by stupid shit like that
Perverted freaks drew the Betty Boop ass slap dances or Tinkerbell in a short skirt not being able to get her ass through a hole, no one thought people would find this shit sexy and now artists have to worry about these cartoon physic jokes because some retard might get turned on by it

Take a look at this channel. Image you had a game called Piano Hero with 88 keys. Rhythm games are simpler version of that, abstracted to vocals or whatever.

That's nothing, have you never heard of tilefag? The anon who would get aroused by geometric tiles?
If you want to avoid ever seeing things that somebody somewhere is jerking off to, good luck. You kinda need a sensory deprivation tank, except those are somebody's fetish too.

Rhythm games test your rhythm and your ability to multitask.
Shooting games test your ability to aim and dodge.
Strategy games test your strategy and foresight.
At the start, you suck. You play more, and gradually improve.
It's fun.
