Was there a rival translation group? Because you're *SUPPOSED* to do that when there's another translation and you're self-conscious about your work standing on its own so you add tons of distractions to make your cock sound bigger than the other dick. What, did they not get the memo?

So whats the problem you fucking moron?

Guys, we don't care if you do the stupid "rebalance" schtick, as long as you keep that crap 100% optional and *NOT* mandatory.

>has access to both strongest healing and damaging spells
>casts spells twice as fast
>generates more CC than she spends casting
>never gets staggered
Well, none of the rebalancing affects the most broken character in the series.

You don't understand, they were SUPER-PROUD of fucking with the game like it's their little bitch. Why can't you let let live out their fantasies of fixing a broken game anon? But glad something to the effect of "but I don't know ANY Japanese" wasn't the fine print. I might give this a whirl later.

you have to download it first to know that.
and why would you download a patch you don't want?

It's not really rebalancing, it's more of a quality of life improvement, as the FAQ says. It should be fine either way.
The only thing that caught my attention is that with the patch you only need to do an end-game super dungeon once, while in the original you had to play that same dungeon twice.

They have actual Japanese speakers on the team but most of the game just reuses the PS1 fan translation and they TL'd the new stuff from scratch.

Probably for traffic.considering all his legal woes I wish he would have just let it stay dead, but he probably needs the traffic and I doubt people donate too much to him. Still, dude does a lot for nothing and is very attentive to uploading rom hacks. Wish I was in a better financial situation to help.

So long as he's smart enough not to let them into any part of administration or site development. Trannys have an uncanny ability to poison and ruin anything they infiltrate. It's kinda bizarre how consistent they are at that.

They'll call him Curesu, which could either be understood as Cless or Cress, since that's how Japanese works.
I don't know if the other anon was legitimately complaining, or just joking, but now this is getting dumb.

that is correct.
but when you romanize you make a choice of using L or R and if there is voice acting, you make the decision based on how they say it.
they just used "Cless" by default because they like it more instead of being more professional about it.
you can change the name yourself, but doesn't change the fact that "Cress" is the accurate name and should be the default.

I absolutely run my party without Mint.
She only gets in during bosses, otherwise her job is to cast Nurse in between battles, and even then this is only necessary once in a while.
There's a reason Tales games never did pure healers again after Phantasia, they're kinda mediocre.
>>
>>12357115
What you hear is irrelevant since they would both be pronounced exactly the same. His official romanization in Japanese is Cless, and his official romanization in English is Cress. There are a lot of Tales characters who have differing romanizations between languages, they (Namco) clearly just don't care about making everything match up.
>>
>>
>>
>>12360776
Always disregard any and all romanizations produced by Japanese people, official or not. You wouldn't go to an ESL for advice regarding spelling or grammar, so you should also not make an exception for Japanese creators.
>>
>>12360781
There's some cases where Japan is just correct though. "Reid" isn't actually Reid, his name is Rid and it's pronounced as such. It may be stupid, but that's what it is. And then there's Destiny where the localization wanted to add an 'h' into Stan's name for the hell of it. The romanization in this series is fucked, that's not even the half of it.

Well, I'm done.
Had been a while since I last played Phantasia, and now that I can reflect over it... it feels like the game doesn't hold up as well as I remember.
The villain is introduced very early into the game, but doesn't get any development until the very end. The whole quest revolves around searching mcguffins (spirits, magic swords) in order to defeat him, and that's pretty much the whole game.
The improved combat was nice, but it felt a bit rough towards the end of the game. I'm pretty sure some enemies became more aggressive too, there were way too many encounters with enemies that killed me in one single touch, as they keep me stun locked with their attack patterns without a chance to respond.

>>12361083
>there were way too many encounters with enemies that killed me in one single touch, as they keep me stun locked with their attack patterns without a chance to respond.
that is what happens when you change something about a game without careful consideration.
this is the only version of phantasia without spell pause, so enemies can queue attacks while you are still recovering from the previous.
no spell pause still feels more fluid, though.
>>
>>12360797
>"t-there's some times when Japan is correct though...! Like, uh, when I PERSONALLY like their choices, because I SAY SO, OK!? JEEZ!"
Sorry but Tales of games already have a problem with people not taking them seriously because they're cursed with being lukewarm anime sludge. The last fucking thing these games need is a character being named "Rid" as in to "do away with" something because some sweaty shitslator insists that every romanization be as close to a perfect transliteration as possible with zero regard for how retarded it would sound.
Next, you'll tell me that Lloyd should be "Roido" because "UHHHHH THAT'S HOW IT'S PRONOUNCED DUDE, TRUST ME BRO" or that renaming "Refill" to "Raine" was overstepping even if that would have been a huge turnoff to even the most die-hard jarpig slurping weebs lined up at the Namco slop trough.
The better part of making wise localization choices regarding how to deal with romanization and transliteration is knowing when leaving something as-is would detract from the work, and having a good sense for what will convey something similar while sounding cooler/better/more believable for the setting/etc.

Oh God, I already reached level 99/100 on the SNES and PS versions without cheats, don't make me do it again.
I finished all the side quests at level 73, the only thing left was to reach level 100 to learn Cless' final arte, so at that point I just cheated. I could probably reach level 100 if I spent a whole day grinding, it just wouldn't be any fun.
>>
>>12359918
>Randoms
Arche with the early Mystic Symbol + Faerie Ring trivializes them in the spell pause games. The rest of the team don't matter.
Then ToPX somehow managed to make the MC even stronger than he already is, so you just spam the arte with the best generic properties.
Team comp only really matters for bosses.
>>
>>12361131
>>12361083
Cless has a reworked basic attack combo akin to the modern games that helps with stagger. There's a particularly good one, where he does a forward stab into an uppercut that has good properties.
Some artes like (L.) Tiger Blade have ridiculously recovery time and it is perfectly possible to mash them out until you run out of TP on most enemies.
You have 4 shortcuts, one for each character. Mint's Pow Hammer spell is great shortcut fodder because they're cheap, cast fast and can be used to stagger. Arche on the other hand prefers spells that don't need their entire animation to play out to do damage on shortcut unless that's all you have.
Surrounded? Just run to the side with less enemies and use the Gather command (R + Up). Or you can just leave everyone else dead and kill all but one monster and bring them back.
I can't imagine playing ToPX on anything lower than Hard/Mania because they give you so many tools to really bully the game.
>>
>>12361727
You can't judge the characters just by their DPS.
Even if Arche can hit harder than Chester and Suzu, they have a property that Arche doesn't have, they keep the enemy busy.
An enemy being assaulted by 3 fighters at the same time hardly gets to do anything, even better if they're mages as they don't get to cast shit. I'd dare say that a fighter inflicting 0 damage would still be strong for as long as they hit fast enough to keep the enemy perpetually staggered.
>>
>>12361992
Several enemies in ToP are incapable of touching Arche because she flies (read effortless casting). On top of that she gets powerful full screen spells like Thunder Blade, Ray, Fire Storm and so forth that can be belted out faster than it would take Cless/Chester/Suzu as a team to end random encounters even with stunlocking on their side because you don't have to chase down every enemy on the field. Her spells also serve as an interrupt in the older versions because enemies cannot react to them and get their spells cancelled as well. Encounters with a lot of casters on the enemy's side are obnoxious for the same reason.
NDX actually nerfs Arche because spells like Ice Tornado do no damage unless the entire animation is complete, so a mistimed one or one where the enemy is allowed to walk out of the range is a waste of TP.
Where the offensive casters faltered in the older releases was vs single bosses since you generally preferred locking the enemy down with as many attacks as possible and spells felt like a loss of momentum unless it was the non time stop spells but those are among the weakest in the arsenal. So Arche had a sort of answer but Klarth basically always gets benched once Chester joins. Suzu actually gets memed on by elemental resistances which is probably the real reason why the LBP devs made a "QoL" where her best weapon isnt a heavily resisted element.

>>12363583
it's just the typical "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" and "the end justifies the means" thing.
that kind of showing it's just so the good guys look even better, because they (or at least mint iirc) forgive dhaos. right before sending him to hell, that's it.
>>
>>12363606
>>12363609
And what's up with Dhaos commanding demons?
He's just a space elf, none of this feels coherent.
>>
>>12363646
>"Midgard called me a demon king when I asked for peace, so I'll show them a REAL demon king!"
As for why Demons follow him, dunno. Maybe they just follow anyone strong and with a shitload of mana, they are born from Miasma and Mana combined.
>>
>>12363583
>>12363609
>>12363646
There's an entire tie in short story or something meant to explain more about Dhaos because ToP's cartridge was bursting at the teams since they added actual voice in a SNES game. But essentially, the developer of Magitechnology is responsible for the entire war with Dhaos. Dhaos himself is not entirely in the right for obvious reasons (we did play ToP after all). What's actually interesting and many people don't know this, Cress and the others actually killed two different Dhaoses during the course of the game.
>>12363606
>Visions of Mana
That entire game was just an allegory for stages of grief. The mana duo also had to take responsibility for being the ones that failed to uphold their end of the bargain if memory serves me correct. The out of leftfield part is what happens to Hinna (if you arent familiar with Mana tradition).
