>PS2 has one of the best libraries of all time and even has a mountain of amazing collections
>almost everything runs at 480i including the collections

Fucking PAIN. The fact alpha anthology and the sunsoft collection runs at 480i is fucking tragic.

I recall the M2 Sega Ages collections having a 480p option

The coolest thing about those M2 releases is it supports 384p in a 480p output container

HDTV didn't even exist when the PS2 was created, and no one complained at the time. That's why it's the most successful console ever.

OK I'll correct it: The HDTV market wasn't viable for anyone except the rich when the PS2 came out.
>>
>>12358250
My friend had an HD rear projection tv with a 7.1 surround sound setup. It made the original xbox VERY popular back in the day.
>>
>>12358251
>the original xbox VERY popular
No it wasn't. It was a flop that lost money. The only reason why Microsoft kept going is because they were playing the long game with pushing their way into the console market, and Microsoft could easily afford those losses.
>>
>>12356507
Just play the Alpha games on Saturn
>>
>>12358271
I meant popular in our group. Sorry you didn't have richfag friends.
>>
>>12358275
HD home media simply did not exist yet and would not exist until blu-ray in late 2006, so there was no motivator to buy such an expensive TV. And I like how you made the Xbox "popular" by slivering down the size of the market to "a few rich friends."

>PS2 has one of the best libraries of all time
Most good games on it weren't exclusives in the first place, or were later ported to better systems. The rest are JRPGs or generic slop. It has less games worth playing than even the fucking dreamcast.
>>
the ps2 is the best console of all time
>>
Street Fighter Alpha/Zero Anthology? It has a progressive scan mode that can be enabled at boot up.
>>
>>12358518
480p looks bad compared to 240p you dont get those delicious scanlines it just doesnt look as bad as 480i

>>12356507
I think PS2's library sucks.

Many games can run at higher resolutions on a component monitor if you use GSM.

I'm confused I was under the impression that a 1080p framebuffer would exhaust the video memory (~4MiB), or is this theoretical?

My family had a 32" Panasonic Quintrix 16x9 aspect-ratio HD CRT TV circa the early 2000s. It didn't have a HDMI port but it could still do 720p and 1080i via component. It also weighed 90kg/200lbs. I remember the last time I used it I tried to play Red Dead Redemption on PS3 but the in-game text was so small/blurry that I couldn't even read it. My dad must have thrown it out not long after that, circa 2012. I still have a 27" Sony Trinitron 4x3 aspect-ratio CRT TV though.

>>12358271
You really think OG Xbox wasn't popular? It even outsold the GameCube.
>>
>>12358873
Even 20-years-ago I remember thinking how the PS2 library wasn't as good as the PS1s.
>>
I've never complained about resolution or FPS or input lag ever. I barely even know what they mean
