I even went out of my way to replace the capacitors near the CPU and reflowing the PSU port. None of that made any difference.
My 1.6 still works somehow... For now, that is.

The traces running to the power switch often corrode for no clear reason, I'd check those next. Or just do what most people do and sell it on ebay. Did you know there's more broken Xbox consoles than working ones on there? Quality at its finest.

PSU capacitors are probably blown and need to be replaced, could be fixed if you can solder at all and can buy a capacitor replacement kit for like $15.

02/01/26(Sun)21:11:24 No.12358287 If only it wasn't made with extremely shoddy parts compared to its competition. There's 4 different DVD drives used across their many console revisions and half of them are shitty and extremely prone to jamming or breaking down like Samsung. Better back up that EEPROM and install another hard drive soon or else your console is turning into a massive paperweight. And don't forget about trace rot or those clock capacitors leaking.
It sucks because its pretty good when modded, mainly made due to MS's fuck ups.

I remember that game during that time. I didn't play it but a friend did, as it required a phone number, e-mail, etc. as it was a kind of conspiracy game, as the participants would receive calls and e-mails, decipher clues within websites, go to certain locations, etc. It was a pretty ambitious game, yet only 1 friend ever played it and I don't hear about it from anyone else, so it's probably some hidden gem of a game that has not been preserved.

Find end of good trace. Scritch it until you see shiny. Follow the dead trace to the other side where it's good agin. Scritch on there. Flux on the shinies. Connect shinies with wire.

They did provide the Xbox with a lot of the must-have killer system seller titles. Tecmo/Team Ninja had some as well, but to be in the conversation, I wished their output was just as much. The Xbox pretty much just continued on with the kinds of games I liked on the Dreamcast.

We're talking about Nintendo. It shouldn't have lost to a PC disguised as a console.

It could play DVDs with a kit and the GC could not. And Halo, if you wanted to play Halo, you had to go to MS.

The GameCube had 3 good games and the controller was shit. They learned nothing from the n64. Its also when Nintendo started being harder on 3rd party developers.

Halo 1&2 being released at just the right time. The sales drop off from those two games to every other Xbox game is impressive.

It also later managed to get GTA3 and Vice City later on, alongside San Andreas in 480 whole Ps. Its third party support wasn't anywhere near as massive as the PS2 for sure, but in this regard it absolutely ran circles around the GC. Being able to play something like Doom 3, Morrowwind or even HL2 on a console may have also gone a way to give it a niche of sorts, even if those are absolutely far from the best ways to play those games today.

idk bro, if ps2 was totally out of the equation and you couldn't own more than one console, i'd take the xbox over the gamecube too.
