As long as Sony could pay their way into being the only ones with clout, it doesn't matter what anyone else did at the time. Halo was just contrarianism and astroturfing at the same time

Most 6th gen games don't even meaningfully need the right analog stick. Seriously, look at the 10 best-sellers that gen:
>GTA SA
>Gran Turismo 3
>GTA VC
>Gran Turismo 4
>GTA 3
>MGS2
>Final Fantasy 10
>Halo 2
>SSBM
>Mario Kart Double Dash
Of these, only San Andreas, MGS2, and Halo 2 actually need the right stick, and even then MGS2 only requires it at the end of the game because the sword can't be used with Square for some reason.

Here's the top 211 best-selling home console games of the 6th gen. I may be missing some games, but it seems only a little over 10% of this generation's games actually needed the right stick. The Dreamcast failed for several reasons, but the controller was not one of them.

More like there were 2 games that every GameCube owner had due to a small library, whereas each of the 160 million PS2 owners bought completely different games out of the 4000 available.

There's definitely some games that would have been vastly improved by a second analog stick. I once played Bangai-O on an emulator wuith a modern controller and remapped the d-pad to the right analog stick and holy shit it was like a whole different game. Cannon Spike also comes to mind, that game really needed a second analog, sadly in that case I couldn't improve it through remappings.

Off the top of my head, you need to manually aim in Nines and AK's, plus the dancing missions need the right stick.

Yeah, bending wires is never a good thing and eventually it creates a point of failure. It why you never wanna wrap the wires around controllers either when you store them

You're kinda right yeah.
The GTA games definitely benefit from a handbrake button, though the PSP versions worked around this by mapping handbrake to a macro (Cross + Square IIRC).
MGS2 would be awkward but playable without the extra shoulder buttons.
FFX's CTB would be clunkier without the extra shoulder buttons but I'm sure there's a better way to scroll through the CTB.
Halo definitely doesn't need those extra buttons; switching grenades and controlling the flashlight could easily be mapped to the dpad.

the game feels significantly better when you use the c-stick, jabroni. sure it's not essential, but saying games don't even need a second stick is retarded when it clearly improved the gamefeel of melee and tons of other games

How does it improve the gamefeel to constantly move your thumb AWAY from the main 4 buttons so you can flick a tiny analog stick in order to make a digital input?

No one said anything about the jump button. The logic doesn't even apply to the jump button because you don't actually have to move your thumb away from any button to press jump.

The only thing the right stick does is enabled first-person view if you are standing still.
