I love how Edgar is almost standing on top of the lake in the distant background because of the screen crunch.

It doesn't. And this part >>12359787 is when it gets even worse.

Plots unrealistic because if there was a war of magicians that almost annihilated humanity it'd be important to hunt down or restrain any magic user like in the Witcher, this is also why Harry potter is also stupid because everyone uses magic, we expect everyone is a responsible human being with it. Gestahl was right in hunting down the espers but not capturing them for its power.

agreed, honestly. the empire could afford to fight the espers due to its technology, but it seems espers eradicate most other people if they feel like it.
only a fool would rely on them "being peaceful". anyone with an emperor's education would tell you that all it takes is 1 generation gone wrong for humans to be branded bad and eradicated, no better than what he did.
of course, a non-villain emperor would've just mustered power to defend proactively, but gestahl was too ambitious.

>if there was a war of magicians that almost annihilated humanity it'd be important to hunt down or restrain any magic user like in the Witcher
That IS what happened. Once the War of the Magi ended and the Espers fucked off to their own separate realm, the humans took to hunting down the remaining Magi who could use Magic, fearing their powers. The survivors of that literal witch hunt went on to found Thamasa, and they took every effort to remain secluded and hide their abilities.
>Gestahl was right in hunting down the espers but not capturing them for its power.
Right, the whole point is that Ghestal was an ambitious power-hungry fool biting off far more than he could chew and playing with power he could not comprehend, and it was his undoing in multiple ways.

They don't, though? They left the world out of their own accord, and the one time they attacked people was when they left their realm in an effort to find their captured friends, and upon learning they were dead, they flew into a rage, which admittedly did result in a wanton massacre (which the game then goes on to say was due to them being unable to fully control their powers outside their own realm, which I will say is admittedly handwavy bullshit to make them look better). Other than that incident, though, the Espers are always depicted as being the ones who want peace, even if that's through separation.
I will agree the prospect of true peace between humans and Espers does seem impossible. Someone somewhere will always desire power, and Espers are how you get it, so another Ghestal could always arise.

If it's the railroading and lack of choices that you don't like, I'm afraid It's like this for a good bit. You'll get a bit of freedom and even get to choose party members relatively soon, but the game doesn't fully open up until well into the second half, where you can go literally anywhere and tackle quests in any order you want with whatever party members you like.

5 hours in when you get to Zoso and meet Ramuh
I was thinking of replaying 6 because I had a blast posing as Quina in 9 and watched to see if Strago and his lores were just as good
Maybe I should just replay 5 since its the best snes one and anyone can use blue magic
>>
>>12360242
Yeah, unfortunately Strago is not that good of a Blue Mage. Probably only Khimari is worse. He has a couple of nice Lores, but many of them are either a worse version of something you can do with Magic, or something straight-up useless. He's only clutch in low-level and Natural Magic challenges.
>>
>>12360289
Yeah I actually started playing ffx international (only played the original North America version as a teen) and forgot kimari can only use blue magic as an overdrive. That’s very lame because yeah in ff5, 7 and even 9 I used blue magic the entire game

Lores are OK. On paper they look pretty great. Big Guard, Pearl Wind, several options for dealing damage. His ultimate lore is basically a slightly weaker and cheaper version of the Bahamut spell anyone can cast (but only once per combat).
Main issue is that Strago shows up late in the game, has mediocre stats, and the game is loaded with powerful magic anyone can learn. The "Gem Box" dual-casting relic doesn't work on Lores.
He can be useful for gimmicky stuff though. Lowering enemy's levels with Dischord can help a lot when trying to get hard-to-steal items. It's also just fun to mess with enemies and see how weak they can get. Rippler is weird, impractical in general but also fun to mess with. Level.4 Flare and Level.5 Doom are situationally useful.

Who knows what they were thinking with him. Even Quistis, whose Blue Magic is also locked behind her Limit Break, can at least spam it under the right conditions.
>>12360360
I guess I am selling him a bit short. When you do get him, he comes with three Lores, and though two of them are pretty useless, the one that isn't (Aqua Rake) is REALLY good for that part of the game, and you can easily grab White Wind soon after (pair that shit with Wall Rings on everyone - it's almost cheating at that point of the game), as well as Step Mine, which, depending on how much you've walked, can do pretty good (and most importantly, guaranteed) damage at that point. Later on, Aero is slightly stronger than the level 3 spells but is obtained much faster (only issue is not that many enemies are weak to Wind, so it's effectively non-elemental), and Big Guard is just really nice. And yeah, Grand Train is solid as fuck. But that's about as far as it gets for actually useful Lores, save the gimmicky niche stuff you outlined. So many of the others are basically filler, or worse, outright detrimental. He has two Lores that make him kill himself for almost no real benefit, for fuck's sake.
>>
>>12360381
Yeah I get it. I was always underwhlemed by Lores myself. I think Lores lack a solid "workhorse" attack-- something useful, reliable and cheap to use routinely. In FF5 you have the whole Aero line, in FF7 you have Matra Magic and Beta. Strago has basically Aqua Rake.

But seriously, that bizarreness is the great appeal of 6. It's kind of unique in a way. You battle fucking everything from monters and people to grass and trains. I love it.

Optimizing the fuck out of a game thats easy enough to beat with minimal grinding and a few side quests will never make sense to me. Use shit because its fun, not in some pursuit of chasing some weird self inflicted meta. Same goes for most FFs, its a pretty easy series designed to accommodate people like >>12360214
