3DO is mainly just a worse PS1, it can barely show enough polys to show a game scene, there is nothing in reserve for anything extra. Cool for its time but that was only 1 to 2 years.
Jag could have been a budget next gen system.

Of course this was also its downfall, the price and batteries sucked... but damn, the ambition is so admirable to me even now.

All the same applies to the Lynx and TurboExpress, which released in ‘89 and ‘90 respectively.

Nah. It's nearly identical hardware to Sega's 8-bit Master System.

Was the Game Gear really even a failure? I knew multiple people that had one. That and the Nomad were so ahead of their time.

I still cant believe they sold a single unit at that price. I felt robbed paying $500 for my PS5.

Depends. It was profitable, selling more than 10 millions units and Sega supporting it until the end. That said it was absolutely destroyed by the game boy that sold 6 times more.

It's color pallete, when used well, was much better than Master System and allowed for titles that looked close to early 16-Bit.

True, but bad example, that looks pretty much identical to the Master System version except with a cropped screen. You need to look at genuine Game Gear exclusives, like Sylvan Tale and that Jurassic Park game, to truly understand and appreciate the enhanced master palette of the Game Gear.
