Alone in the Dark 1+2+3 are currently free on GOG. What do you think of them and the later games in the franchise?

The first one is amazing in pretty much every aspect, then the lead guy left (Raynal or something?) and it became an mystery action/adventure series.
The french dub in the first three games was recorded by top-tier voice actors.
>and the later games in the franchise?
The New Nightmare was just more of the same, really. Mystery action adventure.
There was another one released a couple of year ago, and it was a solid 2/10.
tl;dr: the first game is amazing, the series lives on the name.

First time i tried on DOSBox it had no music. However, the sound effects and stings worked just fine. This completely changed the vibe of the game. It's so much scarier that way.
...it's really unsettling when you hear those "danger" stings. Still gives me goosebumps. And I'm a guy who almost never gets scared.

The first game is better than Redditent Evil and for years redditors gaslighted themselves into believing the psyop that it was a successor to Sweet Home because they didn’t want to acknowledge a game they were filtered by

Only Alone in the Dark 2 differs significantly from the PC version on consoles.

The first game is a half-way decent puzzle/action game. It's a bit on the clunky and janky side, so sometimes you can find a solution and still die just because, making you think you got it wrong instead, but it's mostly fair until you head under the Mansion. The combat is going to be shit no matter what you do, and you quickly learn to fight dirty. Fantastic atmosphere, and the voice acting is surprisingly well done for an early 90's game.
>6/10
The second game decides to focus on the shitty combat, trying to compensate by giving you more guns and a lot more ammo, but they gave the enemies guns too so you can be shot at by enemies OFF-SCREEN, so combat is typically a steamroll one way or the other. You get the first shot off and waste them, or they get the first shot and stun-lock you while they gun you down. The intro video is cool, but playing the game is torture.
>3/10
The third game is like the second game, only with more random deaths because you didn't know where you could safely walk without having an enemy teleport in and shoot you. There's more puzzles, but the awful combat is still the main focus. Enemies can still shoot you from off-screen too.

The first game feels good until the ending, where it becomes a slog.
The kick is indeed really powerful. Carnby was Li Tung
>Second game
Yeah, i agree. It sucks. The integration with the little kid, Grace, feels hamfisted and out of place. Combat is everywhere and it's far too quirky. A drastic shift from the original and a stupid one.
>Third Game
Now that's where i disagree. I must apologize in advance, because i am really fond of this game. So, long text.
I think it's far more interesting and elaborate compared to the previous others. While in do agree there are some really cheap moments (like when you don't blow up the train station) the set pieces are really interesting. There's a lot of variety for an old western game. I think they balanced well combat, puzzles and exploration. The second act is really well done and has some great set pieces for a game of its time and interactivity.
>having an enemy teleport in and shoot you.
These are the Elwood brothers. If you wander out of bounds or where you're not supposed to be, they will get you.
Why are you struggling with health? This game gives you plenty of flasks, even on the hard difficulty it's fine. Most enemies are dumb and will only chase you. The right punch is really powerful and can stunlock almost every enemy. You also get a lot of shotgun ammo if you're a little creative (before the lone miner)

Can you prove its from them? As the modern Internet is fucked and every company that has any of your details will be selling it if they can, as well as your details being for sale on the dark web. So being able to pinpoint where this is coming from would be a good skill to have. I don't have any issues with my accounts on those services but my email address is 24 years old so I always get spam

A trick you can use with most email services is that if you add a plus sign and some extra characters the email will still get to you but you'll see that someone sent it with that specific code. Let's say your email address is anon1234@email.com. When you sign up for GOG you could give them anon1234+gog@email.com, or when you sign up for Epic you could give them anon1234+epic@email.com. Emails sent to any of those addresses will still arrive on your inbox, but if you see that they sent it to anon1234+gog@email.com, you'll know that advertiser got your email address from GOG, or if you see +epic in there you'll know that's the email you gave to Epic, and so on.

I got it for free, and you do know that you can just use the install folder with your own copy of dosbox, and edit the conf file too, right? They just ship a default one for dummies who can't set up dosbox on their own.

>All of the work
They give you the game pre-installed, so you don't have to deal with the install and setup part, just boot it with your copy of dosbox, after making any changes you want to the conf file.
And they were literally giving it away for free last week, I don't see why you'd be salty about that.
