Are monopolies really that bad? Is competition really that good? The best and most creative videogame libraries of all time didn't have much competition.

I like temporary monopolies

None of those had a monopoly, you dumbass.

Other consoles excelled in certain fields and niches. You weren't getting an action-adventure game like Ocarina of Time on PS1 or an FPS like Halo on PS2.

Master System was good, N64 and Saturn were good, Game Cube and XBOX were good... sure these consoles dominated, but they had competition with their own good and unique titles.

Playstation has had no real competition in over a decade. Can't say that the results are so great

Competition was the main reason these systems were so good you ultimate retard

Absolutely not the case with the nes

Can't agree.

Apparently Ps2 had thousands of games but over the last 30 years I’ve never seen anyone play anything except old sports titles on one of these.

Not true whatsoever.
>>
Not really, both the nes and the PS2 are overrated consoles

I have Unlimited Saga and Chaos Wars sitting on my self to play next time i get my ps2 out. Most played recent game on it would be HOMM Dragonbone Staff which is imo the definitive way to play the original King's Bounty game.

They did have competition though lolwut

Monopolies are bad, but so is too much competition. When there's too much hardware from too many companies on the market, it creates confusion. The reason why the three-way rivalry has been so common for so long in different configurations is that it's the most stable state for the console market. Conversely, 1983 and 1994, two years smack dab in the middle of two major industry crises, had the most competition.

Yeah thanks

At this point, you could merge Playstation & Xbox and nobody would know. Other than a handful of games, their libraries are identical. If you want a first-party only console, then you go Nintendo.
