They did a small update patch on the Steam HD version to fix "security issues" over a year after the game released and it deleted a lot of peoples' saves. I was 10 hours into the game (did up to the fishing hamlet town being invaded and about to enter the capital area) and all of my multiple saves right back to the first forest area got deleted.

Again fair enough but I'm with you there haven't tried the Xeno series myself but heard the writing and whanot is all over the place, sounds painful to bear with not that this game has mastergrade dialogue or anything but it can be fairly good at times
I greatly enjoy the world in this game it was well thought out and the premise of living in the sky on floating islands was always pretty neat to me
All the civilizations originating from tribal groups after the cataclysm was pretty cool too, the fact they went out of their way to make the cards integral in universe was a very nice touch as well

Don't know who told you that but the writing is generally good in Xeno games. Probably some elitist or FF faggot. Xenoblade 2 is somewhat of an homage to this game with it all taking place on a Cloud Sea on top of titans, one of which is a giant whale.

Goddamn I love baten kaitos so much it was such a nice capstone to the "prerendered background" era of Jrpgs. I really could go on and on gushing about how much I loved these 2 games. Sixth Gen was such a sweet spot for graphics where you could make a beautiful 3d Game but development wasn't so prohibitively expensive that you couldn't innovate or try something new.

Fuck you. Kalas and sagi are two of the best protagonists in any rpg. Both are very strong, likeable, and compelling characters despite being very different from one another. It made baten kaitos interesting to have two characters with similar life experiences, getting fucked over by the empire, yet seeing how they choose to handle them in completely different ways.

Not to mention it makes for a great romance I love xehla and kalas' relationship and how she never gives up on him.

I wish for the baten kaitos remake that they did a sort of "thousand year dream" type thing for kalas where you could unlock memories from his youth with Georg and fee. If written well they could better contextualize his pain, sorrow, and rage which fuels his revenge quest. It wouldn't have been all that expensive to do you just need some basic visual effects and a good writer. And I think it would add more to the story. As is you see what Giacomo does to his village but since you don't get to see many of the happy times kalas has with fee you don't quite feel it.

love this game bros, the combat's so fun and the story was pretty damn cool, just gotta give the game a fair shot and not drop it in a few hours when you hear the VA or see your cards change. the combo system keeps the combat dynamic even when it's just trash mobs
when kalas turned out to be evil/betray the group I had to kneel, didn't expect them to use the fact that (You)'re a separate entity like that, great moment

I remember most if not everything in the Labyrinth of Duhr being a pain in my ass

I think Eternal Wings might be the game I've spent the most time on in my entire life. I replay it at least once a year (sometimes two or three, rarely four) and have been doing this for the past 20 years. Each playthrough takes me an average of 120 hours. The card collecting and deck building autism keeps drawing me in, I can't believe I'm not bored of it yet. I love this game.

when i was a wee kid my brother had a lot of import games as he was capable of reading japanese. baten kaitos was one of them, i remember booting it up, playing until the first 2 enemies in moonguile forest, then never doing anything more than that. shit was cash

replayed it twice over the years, getting further into the game every time but never beating it. replaying it yet again lately and this time i'm gonna beat it for sure, i'm even playing on my brother japanese copy of the game for good measure.

even though it's not perfect this game is just so fucking good. shoutout to the character designs in particular, Nakaba Higurashi really did an amazing job, every part member is completely different and great to look at, especially Savyna who is my waifu.

also got a japanese copy of origins which i'll probably play just after beating 1, however it's the buggy original edition so i'll have to document myself on the big bugs to avoid fuckiness.
