What are some good RPGs that take place primarily in the countryside? You know, green meadows, dark forests, blue lakes, yellow fields, the works. No desert planets, post-apoc wastelands, alternate dimensions or fantasy lands of pastel colors and giant mushrooms.
I think I played all the classics but maybe I missed something.
BG1
Divine Divinity
Sacred 1 & 2
KCD
Two Worlds
Balrum (it sucked)
Exile 3
Eschalon
Drakensang games
Witcher
Gothics
Legends of Eisenwald
NWN2
Dragon's Dogma
Hero of the Kingdom games are comfy busywork simulators but not really RPGs.

Maybe the Might and Magic Games.
Also Wizardry 8 and Wizards & Warriors (2000).
>>

Nehrim and Enderal fit, Enderal has especially cool world (except the winter mountain biom).
Eschalon Books are all about comfy countryside adventures.

you are sounding zoomish and white copeish. Why you mentioning only dull brown wrpgs? The countryside isn't something to be glorified. They are human sinkholes that smell like cowshit, it's where dreams come to die.
Anyway here a few that take place in the country side.
Primarily in the countryside
>Legend of Mana
>Seiken Densetsu3
>Tingle's Rosy Rupee land
>Breath of Fire 1-4
>First Arc the Lad
>Dark Cloud
>Technically the first Mario RPG
>Paper Mario

>>3898084
Yes they do. I know several people who have lived their entire lives here and some who have died of drug OD;s

Sure, go ahead and disregard that he also played Drakensang and BG1, clearly hits among zoomers.

Not OP but my dream is to move back to countryside.
Cities fill me with disgust and provide almost nothing of worth to me.
>>
>>3898704
True. This is the dream life.
The faggot that talked about people ODing and that there is nothing to do, is hoplessly stupid.
Cities have zombie infestations of junkies.
And what do you 'want to do' in a city anyway?
Drink? Listen to nigger music?
Catch STDs?

I do recommend though to move to the countryside with friends.
Also be aware if Bill Gates/Blackrock/Insert Blg Company Here are going to fuck you over.
>>
>>3898311
majority of the shit he mentioned wasn't from that era. I just missed those two, take off the diaper.t

>>3898585
nah, if you actually meet devs who create these sort of games they are wimpy hunched over white dudes. one dude at oblivion was talking shit, but he was a hunched over fat balding sack of crap.

>>3898704
>Cities fill me with disgust and provide almost nothing of worth to me.
Well if you are in Detriot, Pittsburgh, or some midwestern shithole of course cities are going to suck. Over on the west coast they are paradise.

Why do you guys love the country side so much and talk shit on cities?

I lived in both throughout my life an the city has much more to offer

Country
>have to have a car
>everything is 10+ miles away from one another
>everything is really spread out
>not many people about
>not many attractions
>dark as fuck at night
>more likely to hit a dear or bear
>no stores for miles
>limited dating pool everyone is married, has kids out of wedlock or is in a serious relationship
>everyone smokes
>shit like heroin and crack is rampant
>only thing open after 11 are bars

Cities
>very technological
>always networking events to attend
>don't need a car, but it's a status symbol
>many different grocery stores to choose from
>large dating pool

Why do you all celebrate the countryside so much?

>folks of the same discipline are plentiful
was having a convo with a baddie at gaming networking event about oldschool Jrpgs, got her digits and we hooked up later. That would have never happened in someshithole town in Wisconsin
>easy computer repair
the wiring of the 12x17 wacom was fucked and a place up the street fixed it for $40 bucks
>discount parts a plenty
montior that I had since 05' died on me and I got three spares for $25 bucks at a secondhand shop
>literally up the street from a gamesworkshop
>up the street from a gym
lost 50lbs because I could go every day.
>every ingredient imaginable within a five mile radius
>multiple super markets, so I can shop around and buy what's cheapest
>year round convention center
>major events like game awards and lightbox are 30 miles away from me.
>>
>>3898704
I did that. Depends on your personality type I think, but I have no real regrets about it. Especially in the current era of the internet, all the odd stuff I may want I can now purchase online, and so I can get the physical space and quiet I wish for, while also getting books/tools/whatever.
But, I think it depends on your personality type. But just being able to own dogs and be able to run them and such has been a huge pleasant part of my life.

>Americans
*sigh*

We in civilized Nations, i.e. Europe, have Public Transport that actually works, we have modern & traditional festivals, we have high tech infrastructure (compared to your rural stuff), we have anything and everything in less than 30 min drive from ancient ruins, museums, opera & theater, bars & clubs, mountains to hike, rivers to fish, forests to hunt.
You can go to gunranges (yes we do have weapons).
Or Archery, or whatever you wanna hurl at a target.
You can play soccer, go iceskating, skiing, sledding.

etc.
etc.

>typical american muh dic, i gots to fuc
Why is it that americans can't form normal relationships?
Literally all of the people I know have met their gf by hanging out with friends who in turn brought their friends.
Many do the online thing.
Anyway if you are really that desperate, we got prostitution too…

Also I think at this point most of America isn't White, so you claiming that I am 'acting white'…
Who are you to talk.
How about you actually develop your Nation, because most of it is most certainly not industrialized.

OPs picrel is how I live but with mountains nearby.
My neighbor has 20 cows.
Just inb4 'you're not living rural'. No we do, but we are civilized.
Git gud murica…

Yeah the town I lived in had that, but none of the other things I mentioned in the other post.

>Why is it that americans can't form normal relationships?
Well that's zoomers they suck everywhere.

>Also I think at this point most of America isn't White,
Yes it is, again stop acting white and pretending you are being replaced.

>OPs picrel is how I live but with mountains nearby.
yeah and that sucks

The real answer is that both the city and countryside have problems similar and different.
If you think that cities don't have a shit ton of drugs and depression, but the sticks do, that is a very naive or sheltered perspective.
>>
>>3899115
That's the thing. Out here in a city I don't have deal with it up close.; I have only interacted with gamedevolpers and gymbros since moving here. In a small town with a class of twenty people I am exposed to everything upclose and personal.

So they are porting bad content to an engine that isn't that great in the first place? Gothic 3's problem wasn't the engine. Or at least not the main problem.

Pillars of Eternity 1 takes place mainly in these settings if you ignore the DLC.
>>
>>3897912
BG1 is a good one.
Dragon Age Inquisition, but the types of environments vary, not just conventional countryside/fields/meadows/forests, also deserts, mountains, snow. I found them nice.

Dungeon Siege 1 is quite focused on various environmnet, but there's lot of cavern content between the open areas. DS 2 has more fantastic landscapes than DS1, but landscapes still, and I found it quite kino back in 2006-2010
>>
>>3898183
>The countryside isn't something to be glorified. They are human sinkholes that smell like cowshit, it's where dreams come to die.
that's somehow as dumb as the sort of projection that you seemed to have read into OP, regardless of whether he meant it like that or not
>>
>>3903948
Hmm, I wonder, I wanted to point it out but then, lots of stuff happens in cavern/ruins interior spaces.

The environments are kino though. Eternal shame they are pre-rendered into a 2D background texture with resolution that is way too low. Any given how they didn't release a higher-res pack (would be much better than trying to retrofit turn-based mode), I fear they did the same sin as BG1 and didn't keep the assets for re-rendering.
>>
>>3903974
Dungeon Siege 1 has great areas indeed, lots of verticality.

The RTX Remix thing from Nvidia is mostly scma though, their stupid PR guys pretended or even thought it works automagically and you can even apply it yourself to game, while IRL there were/are mostly no working mods.
>>
>>3903201
Just finished this. Nice little game. A bit roguelikey, but the map and quests are handcrafted. There isn't much in the way of writing, it's decidedly a dungeon crawler only the dungeons happen to be outdoors.
But it's comfy, I liked it better than Eschalon, despite that being a more fleshed out RPG experience.
>>
>>3897912
>tire track roads in a medieval setting
When will they learn?
Even kingdom cum got this wrong.

Unfortified roads, before there were cars, consisted of a big ditch in the middle as those were either tread by foot or animal carts and the animals were way heavier per area unit than what has been pulled on those carts.
>>
>>3909570
>Unfortified roads, before there were cars, consisted of a big ditch in the middle as those were either tread by foot or animal carts and the animals were way heavier per area unit than what has been pulled on those carts

I wonder about that, although I do think the old-style wagon wheels probably caused different marks.
Perhaps a task for experimental archealogy, since this probably isn't the thing somebody would think of recording and describing for future generations.

Or are there pre-tyre photographs that could be useful? I'd expect there were some.
>>
>>
>>3909581
I speak from experience with an outdoor museum. Regrettably, assholes started driving with their cars on there, so I can't take the picture. Well ok, they have to move their stuff and the cart is just for show, but still, perfectly fine cart and foot only track of about 100 meters all in all got ruined. Also full of snow now.
There will be a new part of the road in summer. Will take a picture then. Though that's probably for another thread.
>>
>>3909583
that's a barely used / recently fixed road
this is what an actual used road looks like
see how the ditch is where the animals walk and not where the wheels drive?

>>
I don't know if I'd call it good but Hogwarts Legacy
apart from Hogwarts itself and Hogsmeade like 3/4 of the map is rural countryside
>>
>>3910415
>I wonder what is it that makes it feel so real
Mostly lighting and art direction. Most games get the textures and models wrong, bathe them in colored lighting then add desaturating (or oversaturating) color filters on top. Sunlight is almost perfectly white unless it's sunset/sunrise.
This is why I maintain that theHunter (the old one) has some of the most realistic nature, despite being fairly low detail.
>>
>>3910477
Also someone made this nice visualization of what KCD might look like if it was made by a typical modern dev.
>>
>>3910477
I do think that all of that matters, but it might also be related to the disposition of the trees and geography
Like even in this abomination >>3910481 it's clearly still more realistic and grounded than Witcher 3

is pic related how the game divides the alcohols into categories? with Wine Bibber and Beer Bibber it just says "wine" or "beer", but does that mean something like mead is grouped as a wine? mead is just wine made from honey.
