Does this pick up later on? I played the demo and wasn't sold, all the protagonists were bland and all the villains were retarded caricatures (even compared to 1 and 2). I've seen a lot of people sucking it off saying the writing is better than 1 and 2, but it didn't match my experience of the demo and I'm suspicious I'm being misled by brainwashed mobilefag shiteaters.

Easiest Mage to get 99,999 damage with and has stronger SP regen than Alexia. He's like an alternative to her who exchanges weakness discovery for buff support. He's no Temenos though, but him and Alexia mogs the shit out of Cyrus and Xerc.

They overcompensated. Made Cyrus and Olberic pretty good and fucked over all the powerful characters in 1 outside of H'aanit. I still find use for Tressa though, honestly prefer her to Ludo outside of Negotiation and Polearm breaking since she's more specialized in buffing your DPS and grabbing stuff from bosses. Her ult would've been good if you can hit 5 times with a selected weapon though since they wanted to imitate Hired Help.

So I know this game comes from a mobile game but I saw an small part of the beginning of the mobile game and seemingly choosing any of the Masters start their own self contained protag.
My question is, does those protags show up as party members?
Is Stia a 0 addition?
Btw are there plans to port stuff like crossover characters or whatever post this game launch characters?
>>
>>
>>3899572
Stia, all of the Wishvale characters, aswell as every party member except for the OT1 cast and CoTC-plot relevant characters are new and were added with Octopath 0. I don't know about any future updates or content but I kinda doubt it.
The self contained protags do not generally join your party in those stories, but they will assist in story relevant battles sometimes.

It should've been like $30-40.
I mean sure the upgrades to many boss sprites, environments, and new tunes are nice, but it's still effectively CotC: Console Version + extras.
OT2 was and still is the better overall game.

What I'm asking is if this girl is in 0 as a playable party members or story characters or if they were not included.

Seems appropriately priced.
Many 30$/40$ games don't offer as much content as this does. I am willing to pay 50$ if it means SE makes real games out of their gachas.

Thats a shame. Wonder why since they have bios meaning that they had a place in this world that could have been used.

cotc has a lot of charactes, but, not so much art, wonder if the unused ones will show up in a octopath 3 ?
kinda wish ALL the characters and villians had more art, but with so many, i guess it is a wait and see thing.

They're the launch 5*s and their own small story quests to boot.
If the OT1 cast wasn't shoehorned in, the CotC 8 could've been utilized instead. All of them especially my man Gilderoy was done dirty with OT0.

I want to like this game really bad but right now I'm miserable. I enjoyed 1 quite a bit and had fun playing a bit of CotC back when it first dropped, so it took me by surprise how little I'm enjoying myself. Combat and exploration are fine, but my main problem is that I hate the story. I only finished Master of Power and now I'm really hesitant to keep going. It all feels pointlessly, overly dark. It feels like I'll be able to accurately predict what will happen next just by asking "what's the worst possible thing that could happen?" I'm also disappointed the majority of mobile characters were cut, I was hoping to use Fiore in a real game because she is cute. The only character I have now I particularly like is Tressa (who I'm not sure counts since she's not a new character), and I like Macy from a gameplay perspective. I see that that mod project to add in the mobile stuff is coming along quickly, but sadly I bought the game on console.
I thought I heard the game gets better after Master of All, but that feels way too far away...

Either the writing takes a nosedive or it becomes one the better jrpgs. It's either one or the other.
Gameplay "could" get better, but RIGHT AFTER completing MoA, you finally gain access to Surpassing Power. And you know what that means with your damage output.

I’m 75 hours into this game around 88% through the story and I don’t feel like the game gets better especially writing wise. It’s such a drag that I’ve been skipping some cutscenes, I already played cotc to the end so I know what happens but that’s still a bad sign. I’ve been dissapointed about the absence of cotc characters before the game even released since the producer revealed they won’t be in this game, pointed it out several times how it’s such a missed opportunity and they should be in. It feels vindicating seeing others here start to feel the same, oh well, at least the mod for adding them in is going along at a quick pace

The average writing quality is much better than what you've seen only doing Master of Power.
Master of Power is just egregiously bad. Ch2 was so contrived I turned the game off immediately after completing it.
There are a couple other really dumb parts in the writing but they're more "yell at your TV because the characters are being dumb" bad and not "Immediately stop playing the game" bad

Banters are still locked to post-chapter 2 (post-chapter 3 for Osvald; you'll see why) but they're all saved in the journal so you can watch/read them whenever after your clear parts of the chapters.
Crossed Paths (2 mini chapters for a pair of characters) that foreshadow the actual final final chapter.
And then the final final chapter... which isn't really really that long but at least there's a sense of cohesion and closure to the story leading to the credits and the, effectively, victory lap epilogue.

I love that the most.
I'm tired of games having the antagonists being le morally grey deep with valid reasons for their actions.

This nigga is shown to be manipulative enough to hug his son-in-law in public but also casually considering to kill his own daughter in the royal court and also resorted to immediately kill the son-in-law instead of trying to first manipulate him to do his bidding, which he has already been doing by ordering him to keep fighting in so many wars. The writing is just plain awful I'd much rather they made him 100% comically evil instead of this inconsistent shit.

So I've seen wildly varied tier lists from people on this game. It's truly a fun time to be early on in a game's life cycle and get to see the mistakes and the genius picks but also the idiocy and the overlooked gems rise as people 'figure out' the game.
Also it is a very hard game to tier for I'd say because so many characters are SO late that it's almost like if they're not there for 80% of the game, how do you even adjust for that on a tier list? Most RPGs tend to try to intro all their characters at least fairly early but not these ones with massive rosters.
>>
>>
>>3904576
>I'd say because so many characters are SO late that it's almost like if they're not there for 80% of the game
True.
I went through most of the game with mostly the same party that I formed very early on. Reconfiguring and reinvesting wasn't worth the effort when what I had worked fine.
Only switch I made before the very near the end of the game was swapping in Olberic because he's how you get Surpassing Power, so you have to.
As far as tier list, the only thing I'll say for sure is that Pius is top tier.
His ult is indispensable. It's simply too much of a party damage increase in a single action.
Viator is also an early character with an incredibly broken Ult, but long term he gets replaced since if your team is just built for damage then you don't have to deal with all the set up (needs parry stacks, needs more then lvl 1 Ult or else it doesn't last long enough, needs Provoke or Cover so the enemy actually hits him instead of just killing everyone else)
He lets you beat fights you really have no business beating at low level though.

The base kit and especially the uninheritable skills become more important than ever since it's what gives each unit their uniqueness. Most early joiners outside of Saoirse and Pius still fall off hard later though, but the fun of the game comes from meme builds and making the best use of each unit's uniqueness imo.
>>3904607
They were clearly rushing to kill him off and it just made both Pardis and Mahrez less interesting as characters imo.
They didn't make me care much for Mahrez. I wished he actually saw through Masushi's ploy and fought with you to protect Pardis as a helper so you can grow to care for him bc he's a capable and helpful character, and also showing that he's smart. Before that someone (working for Pardis to see if they can manipulate Mahrez) can also remark that if Pardis dies he can become King or sth and it's better but he still stayed loyal and saved Pardis from the sneak attack only to get betrayed by him or sth. Mahrez's strong morals proved to Pardis that he cannot corrupt this righteous future ruler and therefore the king decided to just kill Mahrez instead bc he couldn't control him.
>>
>>3904576
Yea Olberic for example people love to say he's only worth it for Surpassing Power, but at the same time he's the only dps character that doesn't have to sacrifice his skill slot for it and is pretty versatile as a result (he can equip patience for example).
>>
>>
>>3904569
You can even recruit a grieving dude that had lost his wife and child during her invasion for god's sake. Showing all the pain and suffering her actions caused to the citizens of Orsterra while later turning around and acting like she's redeemable is just bullshit, but I guess this is what I should expect from a gachaslop story since they still have to sell her tits to the paying audience after all.

>I wished he actually saw through Masushi's ploy and fought with you to protect Pardis as a helper so you can grow to care for him bc he's a capable and helpful character, and also showing that he's smart.
i have this same issue with the story. they were too eager to kill both him andelricaoff for the shock factor, completely ignoring any potential/existing character arcs either of these characters could bring to the game. like why the fuck did they have to sub in alaune to fill that role? her speeches feel wholly unearned, in comparison to if it came from the ruler that ACTUALLY fought to change things
>>
>>3904658
Can agree about Mahrez's killing being too early. Had they showed Pardis wanted to kill his daughters because he wanted an male heir first, then his death would serve to prove the heir thing was bullshit, as Mahrez was like a son to Pardis and look how he was treated. Would earn more sunovabiches points because that would reinforce the point of he don't giving a shit about anyone but himself. In that sense, Ulrica's flashback came too late.
>>
>>3904771
>>3904776
It just felt like Elrica and Mahrez existed to show you how fucked up the villain is which is similar to saying water is wet, especially when the town of Cragspear is already fucked up as hell. From the moment you entered the town, no NPC had any favourable remark for Elrica and Mahrez either, so even the scene where the beggar girl tried to give Elrica flowers on her wedding just felt like a cheap way to instantly establish Elrica as a kind person instead of actually characterizing her through the worldbuilding itself.
A lot of writing decisions in 0 felt very amateurish compared to 1 and 2 which makes it feel even worse for me because the stories felt even more like generic JRPG stories compared to the first 2 games. Seems like they're always trying to one-up the previous arc's villain by creating more villainous scenarios bordering on tragedy porn, and the writers only care about inserting "shocking" twists instead of ensuring a cohesive narrative that actually makes sense. The whole Auguste/Schwartz thing was basically the embodiment of this. Yeah it's a shocking twist but how does it change what happened in the prologue, chapter 1, and chapter 2 of MoF? Does it even make logical sense?
I heavily disagree with anyone saying 0 has better writing/structure than 1 and 2. Octopath never had outstanding writing, the writers have always excelled more at theming and overall vision instead of the intricacies in execution. Primrose's story is like the quintessential Octopath storytelling style imo, which I personally enjoy even with all its flaws. However, these games have always had engaging protagonists, not villains, and 0 being focused on the villains is to its detriment imo. Herminia and Auguste (until the twist) were the only good villains in this game imo.
>>
>>3904780
>Seems like they're always trying to one-up the previous arc's villain by creating more villainous scenarios bordering on tragedy porn, and the writers only care about inserting "shocking" twists instead of ensuring a cohesive narrative that actually makes sense.
probably because that's the case, lol. i have zero clue why people aren't shitting on this game more, and some are even PRAISING this story for it's emotional depth. just scrolling through the comments on any discussion of the game's story makes it make total sense that there's a large plurality of people that rely on AI in their day-to-day
>>
>>3904783
I don't know how much of this is just people missing Octopath, but 2 was released just 2 years ago so I mean, I'm not missing it much yet lol.
It also baffles me how much praise I see for this game's story. Perhaps JRPG fans just prefer generic JRPG stories then, which is a shame because the whole charm of Octopath for me is having 8 interesting protagonists with unique stories that make you care, and 1 also had the added element of having an interesting and mysterious world (I didn't feel this in 2 personally). The world and characters in 0 are of little interest and made little sense to me, despite being much more "diverse".

>As far as tier list, the only thing I'll say for sure is that Pius is top tier.
>His ult is indispensable. It's simply too much of a party damage increase in a single action.
Delitia has the same ultimate effect as Pius, so that kind of devalues him if you already use Delitia.
And as far as I can tell, Delitia is a good character. Pius has low innate SP for a caster. And basically I don't see how you could run a party with more than 1 cleric so it's basically a choice between Pius, Laurana and Ophilia. I've seen a lot of people saying Laurana is total trash and a lot saying she is S tier. Really puzzling. To me her standard skills look really lackluster compared to Pius since too many are physical for a cleric. But that whole row regen and revive Ultimate are tempting for potentially surviving superbosses (though I have not gotten to them yet).
>>
>>3904975
You can farm nuts in endgame which makes Pius low mp not really matter, you can also just give him mp-boosting equipment. Clerics are honestly not that useful since with Pius ult you can just kill bosses in 1 to 3 turns. Delitia's ult is great if you only use phys-based team, but I think most endgame party would include both phys and mag dps anyway and with Pius you can just boost all of them.

The clerics are all equivalent in my opinion, it really comes down to what you prioritize. Pius has his debuff and innate party heal, Laurana can give linewide autolife and Ophilia has innate full party revive and can give you phys dodge with ultimate.
The real question is why anyone would use an apothecary besides Alfyn.

I’ve seen people praise the game and they’re still in MoA or nowhere near done with the game. It could be that they are still in the honeymoon phase and the game’s flaws haven’t set in yet for them, or they must have low standards and are just stupid. I’ve just gotten the true ending of this game and I can say it doesn’t make sense at all, this was the least enjoyable octopath game for me and I’m hoping octopath 3 returns to the formula of 2 and improves on it a bit

Pius gives universal tier-2 buffs and debuffs and bosses in this game don't have enough bulk to survive any team that's even remotely built up proper so he's the most efficient unit that also comes super early, you can literally get him as part of your first 7 allies as long as you have already recruited Celsus. Richard comes late and needs a Wishvale shop exclusive passive to reach tier-2 on his buffs (though it is a common item and not rare), while Ultimate Support, Stalwart Stance, and Invigorate and Inspire are all earlygame free masteries you get from playing the game normally.
If the game wasn't so piss easy Richard is definitely better than Pius as he's more suitable for longer fights where you want to maintain buffs, debuffs, and keep recharging ults.
I don't even think a magic DPS is necessary when you can just ult Reime and use Thousand Spears Olberic they deal way more damage without convoluted setups compared to Xerc and Cyrus. Alexia and Isla require less setup at the cost of no multi-hit and honestly that just makes them better Scholars for me.
There are a lot of poor balancing decisions made in this game that makes a lot of characters with cool gimmicks pretty worthless in the end. Pius and Saoirse are amongst those balancing mistakes imo.

>TFW Auguste was only a good character after the twist and only a good villain before the twist.
Why was hethe only one seemingly being manipulated by the ring demon, where he talks almost like he has a split personality at the end where he was going to let you go but the demon has other plans, whereas Herm and Tytos give no break in their evil character to the end?
Also I've gotta wonder, do people who dislike the 3 Masters not get hype for good ol FFT-stylevillains were demon possessedplotlines? Or do they just think FFT did it much better?
>>
>>3905047
>The real question is why anyone would use an apothecary
Fixed that IMO. I guess to cure status effects but bosses tend to slather the status effects on like butter by the rowload so I don't see the merit in wasting turns removing them rather than just swapping rows and waiting for them to wear off
>>
>>
>>3905144
This is gonna be a surprise to you butThose people aren't demon possessed
The ringscontain the spirits of the actual patron deities. The wearer of the ring being evil is corrupting the ring and turning it red, not the other way around.
In hindsight this should probably be obvious to you becauseyour character also has a ring and isn't possessed by any "ring demon"
as far as future info that corroborates this [actual spoilers ahead of where you are]Pardis III's plan is explicitly to get the MC to fall into despair to corrupt the Flamebearer's ring so he can take it, as he can't touch it otherwise, and much later Finis straight tells you the rings contain the spirits of the gods
>>
>>3904817
The villains are shit though, doubly so in 0. In normal Octopaths at least they make some thematic sense. The villains in 0 barely even represent the paths they're supposed to stand for, so they already fail at that basic element.
>>3905144
I don't think the Schwartz reveal made him a good character, and as a villain before the twist he was very campy but I think not as "realistic" as Herminia, so there was a lot of suspension of disbelief I had to make to enjoy his villainy. The fact that his plays all seem to be very psychotic and sadistic makes the regular people of Osterra look like psychopaths, and they weren't even entranced by his ring either or anything.

Focus on the protagonist's journey vs the villain's villany
Interesting and mysterious world with hidden lore
More customizable skill slots and weapon access expansion via subjobs rather than swapping out the backrow character
Hidden jobs
Smaller party means having 1 stinker (Osvald) out of 8 total characters feels less bad than 30 stinkers out of 35 total playable characters
Concoct, Hired Help, and Monster Capture/Summon
>>
>>3905178
Herminia/wealth should've been merchant. Tytus/power works as warrior. Auguste/fame can work loosely as thief due to all the underhanded "theft" of lives to fuel inspiration. Thieves have hp and sp theft skills as well so it isn't all about money thematically.
>>
>>3905187
No idea why Herminia was Huntress other than them wanting to give you 2 mediocre ults earlygame after giving you 2 good ults. Auguste could've been Scholar. Hell male Scholar MC literally looks like Auguste's protege.

Ok, some hindsight on the Hell arc.
Obviously the goal ofreviving Orsa like Finis had thought about doingwas achieved
But, ifLittle Finger hadn't died and become a ring replacement, what was the actual plan to make that happen?
Kill you and take your ring?that shouldn't work because Sazantos already tried to grab the Flamebearer ring when you handed it in to be sealed and it rejected him, so why would it be any different a 2nd time?
IfLittle Finger's sacrificewas always the plan, then what was the point of raising an army of the dead or waiting until you got there and confronted them to pull the trigger on their "winning" move?

Agnea's story wasn't pants-on-head retarded and actively taking away time and development from anyone else though while also forcing you into perceiving her as a good person when she's morally questionable. She's just a well-adjusted young girl who wants to follow her dreams and doesn't have an edgy tragic backstory. She's also a strong unit unlike Velnorte who's one of the most useless combat helpers you get in the game.
I'd take Agnea's story over the entirety of 0's story outside of Herminia's campy stuff to be perfectly honest.

It seems like the characters everyone says are good are 'difficult to use' characters with obscure reasons for their quality (Saoirse and Pius) rather than massive damage hogs. It's almost like the devs knew to avoid characters who could output huge damage but didn't know niche strategies like Invig+Full Row HP regen+Ultimate regen push when in the back row would be OP.
>>

Saorise isn't obscure, her ult gives any character in the party auto-hit weakness regardless of their weapon/element. It is the most useful buff. The only other weapon/element invariate buffs/attacks are on Sazantos, who has shit availability and can only cast it on himself, or attached to Mastery non-elemental attacks that break 1-2 shields max at a time.
Sadly Saorise's ult doesn't get spread by Sealtige's Seduction.
Pius is just inertia: you get him early, he can heal everyone and has an easy to use buff/debuff.

He wasn'tmanipulated by the ring.
My read on Auguste is thathe's basically the Hyde to Schwartz's Dr. Jekyll, but in a way that's a mix of the book and pop-culture versions: When Schwartz snapped, he created a persona to shove the thrill he got (assuming Auguste was telling the truth in how he got his big break) onto and said persona remains largely in control. He can let Schwartz "leak through" for one reason or another and his break before the fight implies that the Schwartz persona wasn't entirely an act.By contrast, Herminia just became obsessed with wealth as a result of all she had been through and Tytos wanted to dethrone the church in the sense of being a major authority.

I only used her ultimate skill a few times i my playthrough but I mainly used her as an ultimate gauge battery. Most of the time she was in the back with her passive that regenerates the ultimate gauge of the front by a bit. I also gave her the passive that filled the character’s ultimate when she buffed a stat and put front row p. Def/e. Def up buff skills on her

Because they hate fun and needed to pad out the roster with 35 characters so they had to spread and nerf all the cool stuff across multiple shitters. They also remove Aelfric Auspices / Blessing and replaced them with 20-25% passive. And they also fucked over Alephant so it's utterly fucking useless as a support skill now.

I noticed an error in the credits sequence.
It shows each villain's splash art, then scenes from their arc, then their fight and shows off their attack animation.
Except it doesn't actually show Ceraphina's fight, it shows you fighting Leblac instead.

I played the mobile game with a few hundred hours and I just got the true ending for octopath 0 at 80 hours and no it doesn’t “get better”. The game not only drags on and on, but the writing is just weak and was so unenjoyable that I just skipped a bunch of them in the second half of the game. The gameplay didn’t feel as satisfying and fun as octopath 1 & 2, and that sense of magic and wonder wasn’t there. That was a huge factor that the mainline games had for me personally but here the game just felt like an ass pull. I’d save that $50 and wait for an octopath 3 if that formula is more your thing

I figured your ring was different sinceit's Aelfric and all that "you have to be pure to have this ring" stuff as opposed to the other rings. In hindsight it's kind of disappointing if it's just random humans who somehow morph into demon creatures but there's no real demons behind it
Game just got more and more disappointing the further Master of All went on with all these generic Japanese SOMETHING TO PROTECT speeches. I don't understand how they can write that slop or why the translators don't adjust it to something less cringe since translators can do whatever they want in the video game localization process and don't need to be accurate. While the look of the MoA boss was alright he was a boring villain after all. Great voice though, but no writing behind him.
Then for some reason theydrop credits even though the game is only half over. I assume an arc of the gatcha ended there. This game is bizarre and I don't see how the reviewers aren't complaining about a lack of polish. Also reusing tons of music, even final boss music from previous games? Unacceptable.
>>3905178
It certainly added depth to his character that Herminia and Tytos lacked.
>>3906918
Vanillaware will never willingly release on PC, they are afraid of people stealing their "style" using reverse engineering (although some pc games like The Vagrant already basically did without needing any RE) and losing their 'stand out' quality that comes from being a console game rather than getting lost among the average 2D indie on Steam. They also may be insanely in fear of pirates to levels of paranoia hitherto unimagined among a dev.
>>
>>3907240
Herminia had depth she just didn't have a medical condition like Auguste. I find her thoughts and actions to be more consistent and reasonable given her backstory unlike Auguste/Schwartz. Split personality isn't very engaging if not properly explored and is often used as a cheap excuse just like irl.

I think that's Ikushima who's basically the main official artist for Team Asano, so everything they made except BD1 (that was Yoshida) and some of BS. BD2 was her though.
There are other artists for the studio - you can easily tell the differences in art styles for the end cards from OT1 and OT2 and CotC/OT0, but I think she specifically did that lineup in your post.

Finished Bestower of Wealth, just have Fame left before presumably Bestower of All (which is what the Finis notes are leading up to). I really came around on Oskha in the last minute. I thought him being 'le based communist guy' was a boring fucking direction to take it, but in the last minute his entire demeanor changed from mysterious edgy cool guy to throwing a literal tantrum over Bargello. Him dropping the kayfabe and revealing himself to be a petulant fucking child who's just pissed he can't get his way was genuinely endearing to a degree I hadn't expected.
Definitely pushes him up over Tatloch who has nothing going for her except sex appeal (but boy does she have it). Jury's still out on the Fame chick.

(You) protag with a bunch of recruitables is so kino. This was a better Suikoden than Eiyuuden Chronicles.

>>3904243
Maybe it could be 8 kingdoms or factions. Though the issue would be it's would still be 8 characters to represent them.
Or maybe a legacy thing like 4 characters and then 4 characters in the future.
Like 4 characters solve their own country problem but it was an immediate solution so now hundred of years later the countries go to shit and it's up to these new 4 characters to fix it.
>>
>>
>>3907708
>Or maybe a legacy thing like 4 characters and then 4 characters in the future.
I remember the marketing of OT1 and, for some reason I can't explain (likely I just wasn't paying enough attention), I thought that was what OT1 was going to be all about. You'd have 8 characters and you'd pair them up over the course their stories and play as their kids afterwards via some legacy mechanic.
I think it'd work great. They could even have their cake and eat it too with the whole "8 stories converge" bit and just use a legacy to make a proper 4 character party to round out the adventure. Have their parent's ghosts join them for the finale using squads of three for a change in formula, and you're set.
Granted, all of that is quite a bit of work and the original dev team still got poached by Kadokawa so who knows what's going on over there.

I was imagining it more in line with how OT2 did it, as illustrated. The games are, in the vast majority of circumstances, hell bent on keeping you to 4 turns per round. You can circumvent it in regular battles through abilities like Patience or Salt the Wound but even those are still chance-based, no guarantees. I definitely also see the appeal for taking the SMT4A approach, as well. Like I said, if it happens it'll likely have a new dev team so anything could reasonably go.

Deep into the game, I feel like the devs did not try to balance the characters around what fans would consider a "tier" list--where every character (early, mid and late) can be fairly compared to others and would all have positives and negatives even up until to the end of the game. Part of it is due to the mammoth breadth of the game, where you can go for tens and tens of hours without ever getting the later characters.
Instead the devs seemed to take a different path. Instead of rushing to get most characters joined by early to mid game, they spaced out the characters joining you into waves, different phases of the game come with the ability to choose among a somewhat limited but 'varied enough' pool of party members but past members stick around too. The devs seemed to intend for the player to play in a way where they would often but not always move on from early characters like Celsus or Macy, unless you really liked that character, to some of the latest joined characters as the game progresses.
A few details that support this is the fact they are leveled when you get them to your party's average level and that it doesn't take much in the way of JP to get them up to speed, and that in a limited way specific 'favorite' abilities from past characters who will have more JP can be passed on to them via skill transfer, seems well suited to this kind of intention in fostering this way of playing.
Thus I don't think it even makes sense to compare early game characters (with a few exceptions like the main and some characters with unique abilities that ended up being more powerful than expected) to late game joiners.
>>

>The devs seemed to intend for the player to play in a way where they would often but not always move on from early characters like Celsus or Macy, unless you really liked that character, to some of the latest joined characters as the game progresses.
>Thus I don't think it even makes sense to compare early game characters (with a few exceptions like the main and some characters with unique abilities that ended up being more powerful than expected) to late game joiners.
Just like ranked Fire Emblem.
And I hate that.
>>

I feel like the problem comes down to the classes being sanded down to their bases. I'm not saying they should have eschewed them altogether, I appreciate them workshopping it to fit some roles but god damn do they suffer.
>Apothecary without Concoct and none get proper SP/BP Generation for the Party, barely any status curing either, almost worthless across the board
>Merchant without Hired Help is just a healthier, weaker Warrior with a Bow (due to Therion's Snatch, not even Collect is worth much on them)
>Hunter without Beasts is just a flimsier, crit-based (read:inconsistent) Warrior with a Bow/Axe
>Dancer actually gets some support via Song/Dance skills but far too few and not a single character, even the Song Specialist (Saorise) or Dance Specialist (Primrose), get unique abilities to do anything with them
>Clerics can still heal and each have their own unique thing (Pius' Ult, Laurana's reraise, Ophelia's overheal) which make them overall useful
>Scholars are sanded down because Cyrus was too strong so only he and (You) get three elements, the other two either have no gimmick (Alexia) or a wasted gimmick (Xerc)
>Every single Warrior is good at doing their own thing, even early Viator with his dodge gimmick can shit out damage late game if you set it up right
And with them being more than willing to give out Uniques, some of which definitely were not thought through (you can get the Cait so fucking early for how broken it is), I wish they had just leaned into them being more unique and spreading weapons out much more freely among the cast instead of being stuck with the same Sword/Spear for Warrior or Spear/Bow for Merchant. At the very least give me Passives for extra weapon slots, that seems like such an easy move.
!!NOTE!!: This opinion is made without full game completion, I have only gotten up to the beginning of Bestower of All. There may be more characters I have yet to see but I don't imagine my opinion on the generic classes changing much.
>>
>>3908489
>This opinion is made without full game completion, I have only gotten up to the beginning of Bestower of All.
You're going to get 6 in quick succession.
First one has a A Step Ahead. It's locked to that character. And you know how good that passive is.
>>
>>
>>
>Apothecary: Alfyn is basically the only one with a "complete" package but has no Dohter since that's MC exclusive, Stia comes decently close but definitely a downgrade compared to regular Apothecaries in OT
>Merchant is now entirely focused on JP farming, Tressa and Ludo are nearly worthless so they were each given their own short-term gimmick with Tressa having a lot of SP and high survivability, and Ludo having his exclusive Negotiate. Carinda is more like a Runelord/Merchant hybrid
>Hunter is the most varied with options for breaking, damage, damage reduction, and debuffing. Phenn ended up being the worst simply for picking the worst archetypes to be in for a Hunter which is damage (takes 5 hits for him to do this) and tanking
>Cleric ended up the best since each of them have their own unique value. Pius ended up with the most versatility with his very overtuned ult though
>Scholars mostly ended up as the weakness finder past earlygame cheese (Alexia) or the nuke ignoring shields (Isla). Phys weps are simply better at breaking without needing to rely on 20% proc passives and Scholars take a lot more effort to deal max damage with elemental magic compared to non-elemental magic and phys nukes
>Dancers ended up severely hampered since they get fucked over entirely by lategame recruits with AoE abilities like Tatloch and esp Richard. You basically get a Healer (Saoirse), a basic single-target Dancer with high damage (Primrose), and a debuffer (Goodwin)
>>
>>3908602
>Warriors basically ended up being the best of the bunch bc they just stole all the individual strong niches of other classes. Viator giving everyone Parry isn't too different from Transfer Rune Sidestep just more steps to take, and he can be a BP farmer + passer with Foresight. Olberic is the tank with Surpassing Power. Reime is genderbent Hikari damage-wise and has BP cheats, Richard is just a Dancer on steroids. Sazantos cheats weaknesses, and Elrica was basically the ultimate hybrid with a cheating ombi self-buff
>Thief kinda ended up being the best of the bunch as well without losing their unique gimmick. Celsus is an Evade tank that guarantees getting hit and comes with Evil Ward. Therion is the most convenient Debuffer and Steal/Collect bot bc of his innate kit and can even Share SP. Bargello has A Step Ahead which works well with debuffs and especially things like Ensnare and Leghold Trap. Heidne kinda ended up the worst off if you lean into building her as a traditional Thief since she can't make good use of her increased stat gimmick when paired with MC. And even when you do that she's not as good as other DPS and tanks

What's your view on Xerc vs Alexia at the time Xerc appears? Does his ultimate tend to do more without needing to spend a slot on surpassing power given the additional hits and the loss of the ability that buffs element atk for random status buffs? Is he worth losing the extra weakness reveal?
>>
>>3910205
Isla > Alexia > Cyrus > Xerc. Building an elemental DPS doesn't seem worth it in this game when phys damage is straight up better at both breaking and damage, and synergizes better with the vast majority of the roster.
>>
>>3910416
Magic damage and Physical damage seem to be balanced around a player never using any Nuts.
Battle Tested Blade still makes one of your physical dealers better than your magic dealers, but magic stays relevant until you start boosting your P.Attack and Crit stats higher than they "should" be.
>>
>>
>>3910435
Nah, there are too many big single hit moves that you would never even think about using if Surpassing Power didn't exist.
Like, imagine dumping 400 SP into Isla's ultimate and getting... one hit for 9999 damage. You could have done that instead with a max boost lowest tier spell.
>>
>>
Xerc's ult not being affected by Price of Power while Cyrus and Alexia's do is just fucking bullshit. I'm still gonna use him because he's my fav scholar but damn I guess I'll just have to make do with Elemental Expertise and nutting him

Been playing Master of All and its pretty cool.
Tytos didn't really feel like he mastered power.
But Pardis III? Fame and Wealth were represented well and doesn't feel like they come up much with him but Power does.
When he fought El and gave himself 99 shield was pretty badass.
People said it was bad but I like it a lot.
Only grievance is well Pardis could solo everyone so its kinda dumb when people tell him to escape or he sends an army when he could solo everyone.
>>
So you’re telling me all the tragedies in this game happened because a god dude missed his wife too much and made it everyone else’s business? And now we're all the warriors of light tasked with protecting the world because of his fuck-up? Sazantos did the right thing in killing this dude
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>3911542
Pardis III is just so one note in his dialogue most of the time although he every once and awhile has some shocking action or demand. Also a good bit of the downside of that arc is the heroes' very rote speeches.
>>
>>
>>3911779
I dunno.
The aim is to show how ruthless he is.
But as I mentioned, power seems what he mostly represents.
They should have shown say how he uses his wealth to say give his soldiers up to date weapons.
Or with fame, foreshadowing dialogue in the previous Masters chapters like townspeople talking about that Edoras king.
But I do like he actually is imposing. Tytos failed in that regard other than beating your dad or imply you only beat him because the elixir nerfed him.
Anyways I like Charles, El and Solon. So its okay for Pardis to focus on being imposing.
>>
>>3912035
I wish the game let Solon did anything "smart" at all during the MoA story bc he was the worst character in this story arc next to the barely "developed" Mahrez. Elrica ended up the best off and Alaune had a good arc but her dialogue is so poorly written ffs, Charles was all right.
>>
>>
>>
>>3912129
I think at some point in development, your choice to execute her or not actually mattered.
My evidence is that she doesn't appear in the epilogue where Alaune and Richard's kid is born. Meanwhile, the goofy-ass Hunter from Master of Power is there and he was a bit character that wasn't a party member and I don't think ever even interacted with Alaune.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>3912160
He also randomly appeared to visit Rinyuu in the church during one of the Bestower of Fame chapters, but they actually didn't interact at all and you won't even notice that he's there, and then he just went back to his mountain hut with no fanfare. I like the dude but I'm just confused about his appearances kek
>>
>>
>>3911542
>>3912035
According to an interview, Master of All was originally drafted as Master of Power with Wealth and Fame also being 8 chapters, but the size and it being a phone game led to the system getting reworked into 3 each.
Granted, they still say that Pardis came to embody all three, but you can still see the original intention of that plan.
>>
>>3912220
I would've had so much more respect for Rinyuu if she did leave Velnorte for good and moved on with Dmitry or sth. Why did they have to make her such a miserable character to watch it made it impossible to feel anything for her bc she's so fucking stupid and frustrating.
>>
>>3912349
Would make sense.
I get it because he is a king so he has all 3 but so far he stands out more as this all powerful tyrant.
I get people issue with him coming as one dimensional but its okay. I like villains who command overwhelming force.
>>
Am I correct that there was no real hint to (Bestower of All prologue spoilers):Sazantos being an accursed flame adherent? I assume it actually only happened when Phina hit him with the black flame in Bestower of Fame as he was near death, he got corrupted then and that will be revealed later...but still, quite awkward they didn't drop any hints after that point. Or why the one of the Fingers is suddenly evil as well. But maybe I just didn't pick up on any of the hints or it was in town or side dialogue.
>>
>>3911475
Why would you think Bargello is bad when he gives all your characters an extra free BP at the start of the battle in addition to acting first? I mean on paper A Step Ahead looks like a bad ability if it just meant it emulated as if he had 999 speed on turn 1, but they did not word it properly to indicate what it really does, which tends to happen a lot in RPGs.
>>
>>3912129
Same her not being an optional character is actually my biggest gripe with the game kek. It got even worse with Rinyuu insisting that no she's actually good deep inside despite being a bloodthirsty warmonger, and acting like a self-righteous martyr over the whole thing. Alaune is at least an actual leader of her country and has to consider the long-term consequences of killing the queen of another nation. Tho I really don’t like the game’s attempt to draw a parallel between her executing Tatloch and Pardis executing Elrica, as they are two very different scenarios.
>>
>>3912464
The scenario being passingly similar was probably just referenced by the game to shake Alaune up and show the emotional reason why she didn't want to execute Tatloch. To communicate to the player she is sparing Tatloch because she doesn't want to be like Pardis
>>
>>
>>3912472
>To communicate to the player she is sparing Tatloch because she doesn't want to be like Pardis
yea this is why I don't like it because Pardis killing Elrica was obviously unjust, but Alaune was in a position to eliminate an actual threat to humanity. The game wants Tatloch to be playable so they're forcing the connection to ellicit the player's sympathy and I just don't buy that kek

>apparently
It's outright confirmed by Pharamea('s soul) herself.
CotC Signa was just simping and/or implied one-sided romance if you squint hard with no actual blatant text.
OT0 Signa's writing was virtually unchanged other than the retcon that she's also Pharamea's kid and (You)r and Sazantos's sister. So I guess you go along with her being incestuous in OT0.
>>

Well that was fun. Took me one and a half month to beat but I'm quite satisfied with both endings. The journey to the end was kind of a mixed bag with some very tedious moments and the gacha format of storytelling really rears its ugly head at times. but ultimately there's just something about Octopath games that I really love. The town building is nice, I love collecting all the characters tho some of them definitely came too late. Sazantos makes for a great villain that imo elevates the final arc into something I really enjoy. 7.5/10
I'm kinda itching for more turn-based jrpg, which one should I play next anons Fantasian Neo Dimension or Romancing Saga Minstrel Song?
>>
>>
>>3913151
Only missable things in the game I can think of are:
1 The treasures in most of the Cragspear castle, which you're probably about to complete so make sure you've 100% the castle before fighting Pardis III
2 The treasures on the open sea during [plot spoiler for Bestower of Power]the naval battle with Groha
I think that's it, but there might be something else I'm forgetting. Like maybe the purchase/steal inventory of an NPC that dies or something? Don't remember for sure that ever happening though.

So besides Tatloch and Primrose, who do I shovel nuts into?
What MCs did you all run as well? I was bouncing between Scholar and Merchant most the game, but have recently started using Apothecary, since I have no axe coverage in my team whatsoever.
Should I make any swaps to bring in Reime/Sazantos? I'm prepping to fight Warmaster & Galdera.
>>
>>
>>3913284
Maybe unpopular opinion but the mc is kinda underwhelming in this game if not for Dother's Charity. I ended up making him a thief just for longer debuffs and by the endgame I used him exclusively to spam rejuvenating/revitalizing jam for quick boss kill.
>Should I make any swaps to bring in Reime/Sazantos?
If you want an easier time sure but honestly the final boss + superboss are kinda a joke as long as you apply Pius ult and keep your health up. Looking at your team just spam Viator and Cyrus's ult and I think you'll be fine.
>>
>>3913284
If you were going for optimal, Viator would've been out for Reime long ago but I know some people like his counter play style.
Ironically though your first position and 3rd positions -- both front and back row -- are the same as mine
I went Merchant early with my main, then dabbled in Scholar for a while, then warrior for a bit when I needed another sword/lance user and now to Apothecary with learned skills like Heal More from cleric to avoid having to use a cleric (main's base cleric skills seem lackluster to me compared to the 'real' clerics you get). I may end up having to go back to having a dedicated cleric though. But I really can't decide between Pius, Ophelia and Alaune, each have pluses and minuses. I may end up going Pius just because of how everyone says his ult is broken. I mostly use Delitia's ult but I can see how Pius' is better. I got a bad first impression from Pius when I first tried him out though. It's probably just due to his stats when he joins.
As for the MC, I don't think the MC holds out long term into the late game that well. He is very good early-mid game but seems to fall off to me as he is stuck with more standard base skills when you start getting power houses like H'aanit and Reime with great base skills. He can always get some learned stuff but those slots are more limited of course. I guess he has a choice of ults still though which no one else gets but I've only ever used 4 of them.
>>
>>
>>3913506
>If you were going for optimal, Viator would've been out for Reime long ago
I actually couldn't beat her until pretty recently, my previous team just wasn't up to snuff, so I just fucked off and did the final dungeon and got the "worse" ending.
Now I'm cleaning things up after having beat him. Reime, all the battle tested weapons, all the coliseum hunts, and the Warmaster weapons as well.
I did end up replacing Viator since that post, and Reime is definitely fuckin broken.
Definitely agree on the MC losing a bit of his luster, but he seems to be at least doing okay as Apothecary, since I like any axe user. With Vigorous Strike from Alfyn, he has hit a few 99,999s, has built in Vivify, and I popped Arcane Healing on him. Not my best, but not my worst.
>>
Bros...should I replace the cat and Reime with (what I hope are) the last two story characters?
I've fit every other one into the party to my active detriment (excepting Bargello, Richard, and debatably the Enchantress because Enchant is just that good). After debating for hours whether I wanted to, I even replaced Olberic with Sazantos but worse (arguably fucking El but worse jesus christ why is he so unbelievably shit). At this point I'm committed to using the story team for at least the rest of Bestower of All, right?
>>
>>
>>3913616
Rondo is not bad, he has innate Augmented Break. He can do decent damage, but honestly if you're thinking about bringing Sazantos, I would really never use Rondo over him.
Sazantos can do He can equip staves which Sazantos can't, and there is a Staff that boosts Dark/Light dmg, so I suppose you could squeeze some magic dmg from him there.
Sazantos is fantastic. He can force weakness hits, and is great at breaking, BP recovery on break, and then can shitout damage on broken foes with Phantom Strike. Do his sidequest to purify his sword, and he can be pretty sick. Sazantos is worth it. I wouldn't say drop Reime though.

You made it that far, you might as well see it through. The normal final boss actually almost defeated me at one point, it was only the second time I felt challenge in the game. Then Imagine my shock when I expected going into the True ending final boss and... Galdera was rather easy. Isn't he supposed to be the hardest most intimidating thing out there? Full Row abilities and Revive-All abilities became absolutely busted in that battle to the point where it seemed like it was impossible to lose as long as you were trying. Oh well, it was an amusing change of pace given how different the battle was compared to the other battles in the game.
The game was interesting, it felt heartfelt yet clumsy in so many points like the writing in places. The true ending was done well at least.

It's probably THAT easy because the devs didn't remotely balance AOE buffs and ultimates for battles of that scale (and there's only one like that anyway), it requires a bit more effort than the normal CotC ending to get, and it's a fanservice ending exclusively for OT0.

Unless you hear anything about performance issues for the S1 version (no joke there is stuttering on loading some screens on the PS5 version so its possible), I would go with the S1 version. Game keycard is too risky as far as long term ownership.

So I finished Master of All.
It was pretty good.
I liked that it was 7 chapters long. It developed well and for me at least felt well paced.
I wasn't really expecting forElrica to die. I thought we would get some epic heist to save them. Was a good idea to dedicate 3 chapters to get to know them.
Pardis did feel like imposing antagonist and felt satisfying to bring him down.
Though I feel it had my least favorite bosses. Just a bunch of goons.
While I like Charles, I feel like if he had been more involved we could have avoided losingElrica and avoid the assassination attempt on Alaune. The latter being seemingly killed before the chapter end kinda annoyed me because it felt like way too trigger happy to kill people, particularly because she was getting lots of screentime soon afterElrica died.
Gladly they started the following chapter showing she was fine.
The final fight was pretty cool. Though I preferred his second form as a monstruous Sage and would have liked something like a decaying monstruos tree like Exdeath.
Looking forward to the bestower arcs. I did the 3 prologues and the Power one is the most hype. Like they get this badass shot and a look at the new antagonist plus they killed that shitty king that betrayedAlaune. Wealth and Fame arent that strong at first glance.
Anyways yeah I liked this arc.

On the other hand I finished the first arc of Wishvale which was kinda cool. Though I dont get why is called after the protag when it doesn't involve him at all. Its still about Laurana.
These characters are better people than me, I wouldn't be able toForgive her for leading Herminia to Wishvale .
Still whatever that makes /ourwife/ Stia happy.

Talking of her, does anyone else keep Stia in the party at all times?
Not only because she keeps you status effect free in the back row but because she should have an spot secured as the childhood friend?
Also I think some people complained about the price?
I think the price is more than reasonable. I'm 80 hours in and I'm barely scratching 60% or so of the game.
Shit is big and I have not felt like it has dragged on. Been a ehile since an RPG hooked me so much.
>>
>>3916406
Stia falls off early on, midgame at best. HP values and gimmicks catch up and some of the heavier hitters (not all of course) you can grab in the Bestower arcs do better jobs.
>Shit is big and I have not felt like it has dragged on.
I ate my words after the 3 Bestower arcs were done...

Personally, I hated Bestower of Power among the other Bestower chapters.
>>
>>
>>
>>3916406
I used Stia til somewhere in Master of All, but her kit's problems are visible even early. Not enough offense or healing and her buffs are wild cards and so unreliable. The interesting combo of covering both Knife+Axe is one of the reasons I kept her so long. Apparently, her ult seems better than it is due to nuances to the battle system although that is just what some have said, it seemed fine to me, although not as good as Alfyn's for BP gen. Later characters just seem to overshadow her unfortunately.
>>
>>3916406
I used Stia all game long.
The only built in effect of hers I really used was Donate BP.
Other than that, I could have given her flex slot set up of: AoE Heal, offensive debuff, Wild Knives to any other knife user I suppose
She was the only knife user on the team. If I was being "optimal" I probably should have subbed her for Bargello or Saorise, but you can get so much damage potential out of the heavy hitter characters that you can mostly do wherever you want with the rest of your party slots as long as you have type coverage for breaks.

Why was Bestower of Fame named that whenneither Ceraphina, nor Lyblac, gave a ring to Auguste as far as I could tell?
Bestower of Wealth makes it clear Tiziano gave Herminia her ring in the past, and Bestower of Power at least has Tatloch implicated in giving a ring to Pardis III, who was originally supposed to be Master of Power before they changed it to Tytos. So those make sense.
But Bestower of Fame is kind of its own separate thing made just to setup the plot in Bestower of All.

They retconned stuff sinceshe essentially gave the ring to Tytos to destabilize the church before taking control with the Black Scarlet cult. Fits well with his well-regarded fame around... wherever he's mentioned... outside of Emberglow.
If anything, Auguste is the outlier.
Pardis was probably too intensive and was shoehorned into a different role (All) while Tytos's faction was changed to Power and then they gave Fame to Auguste since they probably couldn't come up with another Power villain yet.Or the fact the writing became a mess once the Bestower arcs started and they needed to connect the stories together and Tatloch ruined everything.

She's literally the only Axe unit that can do this without any external help. Definitely one of the better earlygame units you get.

Hmmm I will see about that.
The power arc at least has an unique enemy this time, a country seemingly made of barbaric warrior women.
Meanwhile fame was a buffed up Scarlet Wing and Wealth more mafia guys (Who were wimps anyways).
Power and Wealth at least have characters you have spent a lot of time with in Bargello and Alaune. I dont dislike Rinnyu but she was mostly an acquaintance. So Fame so far is bottom in interest.

In my case yeah she is mostly a BP donate bot but also like to use sp share.
Her passive of protecting from ailments is just so useful. Particularly on MC Warrior as he deals the most damage or Saoirse to keep her buffing units.
Sure other characters can BP but she is the best at it as she has sp share built in.
I plan to give her Alfyn great axe damage skill.
I gave her that character creation skill that lets her debuff enemies too. She has lots of SP which is nice.
Talking of new units, it's kinda annoying they come with so little JP for skills. Just enough to be one skill away from getting their ultimate move and maybe some spare for equip skills. Like I got Alfyn and Olberic and they need to train before I use them while Stia has plenty to use for masteries.
Lucky for them I have fought sone Octopi so they got good JP amount (Also able to build their statue).
Alsso love Sharks, any game that has them is 10/10.

I feel like Rondo was meant to be recruited way earlier but they moved him late for some reason. He joined and had a party chat with Delitia where she kept talking about how she hopes to find her brother one day when I had that quest completed long ago.
Would make a little more sense for him to join early then get a Paladin Cecil kind of power up when BoA6 hits but they did him dirty this way.

Oh my, you have no idea where Bestower of Fame is going. It was written by a lunatic in an asylum with only a small fragment of his neocortex left. (That can be good or bad or both, you decide after getting through it.)

It's theMindtplot from Octopath 2 again.
and it was fairly obvious it was going to be that based on boththe Inquire info you can get from the theological scholar in AtlasdamandSazantos' reaction to first meeting her
If you haven't already played Octopath 2 though, it probably will come as a surprise to you. They did a pretty good job of planting false leads, like how the scenario'sTemenos equivalent, a very atypical priest who is secretly a direct report to the pontiff, isn't associated with your party at all and comes off as very suspicious as a result
But even if you have played Octopath 2, I guess the middle step wherethat one priest is sexual abusing his own adopted daughteris pretty deranged, but also kind of in line with how Master of Power was written

Self-insert silent (out of battles) MC with story arcs having story-specific NPCs while (You) are mostly just "there" as the Chosen One.
It's like a wannabe typical JRPG with Fire Emblem tier character writing utilization.

This game only really has one superboss though right? Is there really a need for a lot of tier discussion? This game did not seem as hard as I remember 1 being. Is that the case or was I just more used to the battle system in 0?

Yes.
No.
It's the easiest if you ignore 2's Galdera and the Extra Battles. Otherwise, 2's the easiest to break apart.
You're a seasoned vet. I've seen "people" seething over how difficult normal/story Vide was for them.

At least (most of) the dungeons in the Bestower arcs apply puzzles in them to try to break the monotony, but......
>Bestower of W/P/F
Longer than the Master equivalents. Power is probably the longest among them.
>Bestower of All
Longer than the Master equivalent.
>>

There's a reason why the designated completion time is around 100 hours.
It's too long considering the chapters were sequentially added to CotC on an, if I recall correctly, inconsistent update schedule other than the first 3 Master arcs.
>>
>>3919258
You probably didn't care for Elrica/Alaune/Pardis as much as whoever in BoA (and the fact that you're nearing the end) so it might have felt longer. BoA is genuinely much longer, especially with the new ch7 and the practically unchanged CotC ch8/final chapter.
>>
Imo, it would've been better if there were three 8-chapter Master and Bestower arcs in OT0 as originally intended for CotC or they were just longer than 3 chapters (all the masters are fought too early, are far too weak, and do not at all live up to their reputation).
These 3-chapter arcs were all fairly disappointing, especially Master and Bestower of Power. And I have no idea why they decided to remove a bunch of scenes from BoF too, same with the dungeons in the Flamebringer's Shrine (although that's BoA). I also wish Simeon, Lyblac, and Mattias got more screentime, sure, you can just play OT1 for more on them but it's really weird to have them appear all out of nowhere in the Forbidden Temple, even a side-quest would've been fine, no need to fight them or anything, just a bit more context (how Simeon, Lyblac, Mattias, and Ceraphina all met, how the Obsidians were created, how Simeon ended up in Noblecourt, etc.). It's just jarring how disconnected it feels from OT1 even though they play in the same world and many characters reappear.
Given that there's a bunch of divine beast-related flags in the files, I do still have some hope for a DLC or update adding Emberflame stuff which would give Mattias more of a character but I guess OT0 is supposed to serve as an ad for CotC as in "OT0 but more".
>>
>>3919441
It makes sense to show Simeon, Lyblac, and Mattias because it goes into some backstory and how this plot relates to OT1, but the scenes with them did feel a bit 'weird' or 'inserted' rather than well integrated.
I doubt going with 8 chapter master and bestower arcs was ever in the cards though as it would require rebuilding basically the entire scenaro. And I am pretty sure their aim was to preserve the content in a similar form from CotC on console/pc rather than get into cut/restructured scenarios they initially planned.
Really, all I think 0 actually needed was a fix to the writing. The writing outside Auguste's scenario and a few key points in BoF, BoA and BoW was really, really flawed. If this game had a translator like Ted Woolsey (without the Nintendo imposed censorship) who was willing to bend the obviously Japanese dialogue and tropes into something more elevated and unique, it could've been turned into a masterpiece.
The game has the structure and scale, but the writing fails it, because it's often dull the more experience to other Japanese works you've seen. Things like Aluane's speeches almost feel like copy paste jobs from other works. The themes didn't even have to be fully changed but merely rephrased in a way that wasn't as generic. It's too overtly written based on the typical boilerplate tropes found in many Japanese works aimed at the shounen demographic (which is conflicting, given some of the things that take place in this game are extreme for that demographic in modern times like the Miza stuff).

>goes into some backstory and how this plot relates to OT1
That's probably what I wished OT0 would've expanded the most on. You even see flashback scenes of Salomon in the Ruins of Eld but these places are only accessible in OT1. They had the opportunity to give a lot more context and backstory to OT1's lore especially since most of the work like map design was done in OT1 already but the world just wound up as a setpiece for the main plot of Side Orsterra.
No need to include places like Duskbarrow in the main story but having them be accessible and involved in some side-quests would've already sufficed for me. Both games feel far too disconnected for how close in time they are supposedly taking place.
I'm also disappointed that they've not expanded Hell at all, in fact, it's even more barren now. Ofc they rightfully probably took into account the massive main story but there's not a whole lot to the world besides it
>I doubt going with 8 chapter master and bestower arcs was ever in the cards though as it would require rebuilding basically the entire scenaro
Sure, still wish they would've done more than switching a few scenes around, and removing/adding others. I did like the new Sazantos flashback a lot for instance. I really believe a lot of these considerations like removing the dungeons in the Flamebringer's Shrine were done because they feared the game might just end up being too long
>a fix to the writing
I definitely agree with that, I remember a lot of awkward wording but that's just a staple of Octopath at this point lol, especially in languages other than English. I remember in OT1 that Therion used to sometimes use the term "tea leaves" to refer to "thieves" and the various European localizations which seemingly used the English one as a template just translated that literally even though it made no sense in the context. Genuinely not any better than an AI translation
