I beat p5r not long ago and I still think about that game from time to time
I had a great time, some of the themes resonate with me at this stage in my life and it's just a very memorable experience, if I were to nitpick I would say some gameplay elements could be improved and some characters have the personality of a brick wall
I'm busy with other games for now but I plan to play p3fes and p4g since I already own them and then check out the first games in the series if there's no plan for an upcoming remaster or remake in the near future
I knew nothing about smt/persona until someone lended me a disc with p5r

Loved Persona 1, tried P2 but got turned off about 10 hours in due to some of the uh... "otakubait." I don't mean erotic famservice, just the "highschooler fantasy" kind. Also a distinct lack of the occult atmosphere and grit P1 had.

Granted I'm hopelessly in love with MT/SMT, but I have little interest in trying P3/4/5.

I do not like the 3 remake. The way it tries to be P5 in tone while in the P3 setting really annoys me and I'm getting really pissed off at the constant posing.

I'm playing P3R for the first time, played FES way back in the day. I'm enjoying it a lot, just got to December, but man I forgot how fucking weak some of these S.Links are writing-wise. I get that it was the team's first time doing them but I finish the S.Link and think "wow, is that it? Was I just more easily impressed in 2007?"
Some of them are still amazing like Mutatsu or Akinari or even Hideotshi, but then you get shit like Keisuke or Mamoru and I just think "I don't fucking care dude, I'm just here for your rank 10 persona unlock:

NTA, that's a valid criticism.
But it's also movies that don't last even 1 minute for the most part, whereas the locations of P3 you see them... literally 99.99% of the time you're playing the game.
ATLUS dropped the ball hard with those less interesting in-engine cutscenes, but the animated cutscenes are nowhere near enough of a dealbreaker.

I ended up appreciating Mamoru more on my Reload playthrough, because while I usually hate him it only occurred to me at that time that his social link starts around the same time the pressure is really building on MC and consequently SEES, he's their ace team member but he's spinning all these plates that are inevitably going to collapse so he has to sacrifice what he can to protect what really matters to him
He still pretty much sucks as a character but it's a nice narrative parallel so I appreciate the attempt

I suspect it's intentional, if you couldn't control your party members because they're "people" then the same would apply to your social links
Besides the jealousy mechanics (where you become part of the girl's goals) you're really just there to push them along a path they're set on already, regardless of whether you pick the +3 or +0 dialogue options

twice only? i've played persona 5 royal and persona 4 golden like 10 times each, and i just finished my 4th play of persona 3 reload. i draw the line at episode aigis though, no fucking way am i doing that again. that 30 hour playthrough felt longer than any base game playthrough.

Persona/smt intimidates me because I like playing series in order, but I know smt is pretty different from persona, and p1 and 2 are super different from 3-5.
