>There are two factions
>One is extremely prejudiced, and the other maintains the status quo despite its many flaws
>The tutorial dungeon gets you to side with one of the factions, determining whether your character is good or evil
>Depending on which side the MC chooses, that faction gets to rule the entire region of the game
Fallout: New Vegas and Skyrim are pretty much the same game

>dead and rotting board
Fuck sake, I only just started browsing it after getting sick of every other corner of this website over the last 15 years. I swear this always happens, I find a new board, get interested, and everyone says its glory days are over - move on
Anyway I thought this board was only like a year old

posters whining about how the boards have gotten worse is an established part of board culture since day one, you will live to see people talking about 2020's as the "better days"
the only difference here is the very specific way a handful of shitposters are permanently mindbroken; someone disliked the game that is their autistic obsession and thus they have since dedicated themselves to shitposting in every thread not about the three games they like, when you know this they are very easy to spot because of their permanegativity
if you want good content on your board how about contributing to it too

Also throughout the first dungeon and during several other ocassions you will stumble upon empire or empire sanctioned torture dungeons. You can even wittness a live torture going on and especially during the empire introduction you will meet the imperial torturer who happily tells you that the young guy lying dead in a cage across the room screamed for weeks after they snatched him for no reason and brought him there simply because the torture wanted someone to play with.
So you are given the choice to side with moustache twirling sadists who randomly abduct people from the streets to murder them in week long torture sessions and wanted to execute you for being near a criminal or the guys whose greatest fault it is not letting literal demon worshoppers with british accents, said sadist villains or their friends take over their native homeland and make the rules there for no apparent reason.c

>Stormcloak Downsides
They're RACIST (see: like everyone else in TES) against Elves. They aren't any more racist than the likes of the Dunmer or the Argonians. Non-nords hold many high profile and high influence positions in the city.
There's literally just a refugee slum (because of a massive sudden influx of refugees) and Argonians don't come into the city, because fucking obviously these two races that hate each other would tear one another apart.
>Empire Downsides
Tried to kill you for no reason, not even ruled by Septims anymore, endless examples of the Empire declining/falling then being reborn throughout history but they demand you defend it to the death.
Stormcloak vs Empire is a meme argument. Correct answer is:
>dragonborn nord kills alduin
>and the thalmor
>and the empire
>skyrim becomes the launchpad for mankind's next age

That's my point, the worst anyone can really say about the Stormcloaks 99% of the time is
>they're RAYCIST
The other thing they roll out is
>muh thalmor asset
because of a page that says "Skyrim being in a civil war works for us. We can't contact Ulfric. Probably bad. As long as he doesn't win, all good"
and as if that somehow makes him more of a liability than the Empire which is openly and actively implementing Thalmor policies. Anyone who thinks there is even an "Empire vs Stormcloak debate" has failed a litmus test that decides who is or isn't a drooling retard

An actual, non-meme in-lore interpretation of those arguments:
>They're RACIST
As you yourself point out they are not racist enough.
>Tried to kill you for no reason
Based.
>not even ruled by Septims
Based.
>endless examples of the Empire declining/falling then being reborn throughout history
Based.
>they demand you defend it to the death.
You don't get it.
>dragonborn nord kills alduin
You don't get it.
>and the thalmor
Correct.
>and the empire
Correct.
>skyrim becomes the launchpad for mankind's next age
You do realize that it actually means "and Skyrim", right?
You can't see the Path.

Sounds like a lorelet issue to me.

The main quest is there to give you some sense of direction and progress should you need it. You can ignore it for endless hours.
And since I don't feel like making a new thread, I just started playing NV for the first time ever (kinda late to the party, am I?). Still too early to passjudgement on the game. So far I've been skulking around Goodsprings.
The combat is a bit more janky than I'd like to and damage seems pretty inconsistent. So far loving the western-ish vibes of the setting. Mostly trying to build a gunslinger type character with focus on guns (obviously), repair and lockpicking. Pretty basic, I guess. Got the wacky wasteland perk for the extra content. Playing the ultimate edition which gives you a ton of extra gear at the beginning of the game for no reason.

>Should have just disabled all dlc to be honest
It’s been really sad to watch games over the last 30 years to go from awesome expansion packs you really wanted to get, to being nickel and dimed for DLC and going along with it reluctantly, to having DLC bloatmaxxing actively making games worse, and disabling them / rolling back to old patches making the games overall better.
