The main problem I see with a ton of RPGs is the fact that it's a huge game of telephone. A lot of designers tend to forget that the original RPGs from the 70s were meant to try and model a portion of reality. Like damage dice for instance. Someone doing 1d6 damage to you on a successful hit was meant to model how deep/threatening that cut was, and a 1 was still life threatening when the average human in the first editions had about 3 HP. 1/3rd of your life is a big deal, but doing 6 damage meant you were cleanly lopping off a head.

Now devs just do weird stuff to increase numbers on a treadmill, not really understanding the fact that they are supposed to be modeling a world, let alone what those representations are meant to model.

I've been saying this in IRL discussions. The point of an RPG is to have mechanics that most accurately describe what would happen in a specific setting, however now RPGs are more recently informed by video games which attempt to create a balanced experience and/or a linear adventure. Despite how calculation and potential video game mechanics have become more advanced, there isn't a video game that has detailed TTRPG-like mechanics, unless you count games like Rimworld, and actual TTRPGs have become more simplified due to normies joining the hobby.
