Maybe I just find it easy to connect with this game but I'm kinda sitting here in awe of how well the visuals, music, story, and gameplay work in harmony to create a beautiful piece of art that is also a fun, chill and deep jrpg. Like I'm listening to exposure from the ost and it's literal waves of various emotions building up to an unbearable pressure that washes over you because Sam canonically remains in control of himself.
There's legitimately a looot, a lot to say about the creative expression within this game that I'm not even going to explain it because the effort would be wasted on anything other than a well produced video essay that will earn me thousands of dollars (or that is plagiarized by a bigger channel to make them tens of thousands).

Never pay more than ZERO DOLLARS for RPG Maker sludge.
>>

Meh, while I do think it's miles above many RPG Maker games but I don't really have the same adoration that OP seem to have towards it.
IMO Fear and Hunger (2 especially) is better, in terms of gameplay and novel aspects. Dunno but Look Outside doesn't feel as immersive, although the idea was definitely cool and unique.
>>3916913
Pirated it, still think it's a good game. Better than Octoslop, Sea of Slop, Slop Project.
>>
>>
>>3916908
surprised that Frankie's still working on bug fixes and smaller content updates for the game. I figured that he'd shift development back to Malison after 2.0 since LO has overwhelmingly succeeded at bankrolling him for the foreseeable future

It’s still an engine. Yeah there is a lot of slop coming out of it but so is out of UE5. One of my friends is making a game in rpg maker atm and he’s been working over it for a year. I think it really depends on a game. If the dev wasnt bothered enough to make new sprites and textures definitely dont give them money
>>
>>3917430
That's the problem. You're too easily impressed by flashy visuals and art shit that has absolutely nothing to do with the game itself. You assign value to something that doesn't serve the gameplay in any way, shape, or form.
The game is bone stock RPG Make sludge from top to bottom mechanically and that, my friend, makes it worth $0. Zero dollars. If the developer can't be bothered to make something mechanically interesting, then they don't deserve the dirt upon which they stand.
>>
>>
I think it'd be cool if XIN-AMON assimilated dead party members or had new phases but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Also, Dumpstercats on Twitch occasionally streams himself working on Malison sprites if anyone's interested.

>You're too easily impressed by flashy visuals and art shit that has absolutely nothing to do with the game itself
So like Sea of Slop & Octoslop.
Which aren't even made in RPGM.
Your standard of a "good game" is out of this world, solipsist.

No, but you pretty much have to be to think that Shill Outside is anything more than a 5/10 game dressed up to make you PERSONALLY FEEL LIKE it's more than that.
Stop paying retards for shitty art and mediocre storytelling. Start glorifying actual, compelling gameplay. Oh... wait, that's like telling you to suddenly have a brain, or a soul, for that matter.

You're just a contrarian troll who hated anything indie.
I bet you don't have any example of a game that you considered having "actual compelling gameplay" in the first place, why would anyone listen to you then?

I figured out a strat for Rat Child. If you get Hellen early (or know you are gonna get Hellen as early as Day 2/3 if you have the door encounter mods) consider sacrificing an arm for Rat Child - if you can roll to get the meal interaction for Prowl/Pounce it costs a single stamina and if you setup the parties Agilities correctly you can make sure Hellen always has a full powered Stab (with a second weaker Stab too potentially if she has Coat of Arms) on turn 1 at the end of the turn. This gives him cheap positive utility/damage outside of shooting the pistol until he gets to level 12 which from then on he can Prowl/Pounce with Coat of Arms to do even more damage than Hellen's Stalk/Stab Coat of Arms combo since he has a 3x modifier over Hellen's 2x modifier and can use even Crush weapons with his version of the move. He also has slightly higher base attack than Hellen but you won't notice that until he gets to 12 since all his melee damage is halved until then.

Really not a fan of how he said Parze is gender neutral and can be anything you want to be. I understand they're going to be an avatar but it kinda kills some enjoyment for me of the character, or the idea of them.
Something simple like that kinda kills the game for me, it's dumb and I don't even mind the idea of trans things but it just rubs me the wrong way.
He seems very confused on what to do with Malison despite it being a game so long in the making.
>>
>>3919898
He says the same about Sam who is painfully, obviously male. Contrary to the assumptions in his Twitch chat, it has less to do with contemporary gender politics and more with putting yourself in the character's shoes. As for the classes in Malison, they're technically separate lives you're assuming control of (outside of the hard mode one, which is just Parze but disheveled).

xin-amon should be a hopeless boss battle
that is like an endless spawning guinea pig survival mode until you run out of hp and items after you kill the eyes/claws/maws.
Yeah survival mode but with endless guinea pigs
>>
>>3917465
I think it would have been interesting if certain flags caused Sam-like shades to manifest as party members like Aster witnessing the end of Wizard's Hell twice or scaring the Feral God or the First Witness finding out every single one of its organs are dead or simply inflicting Pain on the Visitor
>>
>>3919994
>The shades becoming game characters
sorta having more lens cracking on that whole 'true ending' thing
more lens cracks there would be neat in general
like I was surprised it didn't happen. Like if we shifted perspective and we see everyone else dealing with a cursed world spanning "sam" that refers to itself as chase dressing its countless appendages as various characters/NPCs/Enemies from Massacre Princess like endless puppets and playing out the game with the appendages. A Sam with a delusion that 'stabilized' in that state between sanity and insanity some cursed seem to exist in (like the rat king).

This. Fear & Hunger's gameplay is way more fun and addictive. It has no cheevos and yet I "100%-ed" both games, including pretend special endings like "Save everyone except yourself" with multiple characters, all characters' unique endings, etc. Look Outside has nice music and visuals, but it's ultra generic gameplay wise.

If you are using Leigh/Joel/Xaria (& Rat Child with Predator Snarl could potentially be used too but he is better off with skills over basic attacks. Morton too potentially with Severed Hand/Rotten Flesh/Warm Eyeball/Fidget Cube) - go with the Papier-Maché Crown/Royal Decree - aka have Roaches form a monarchy. Otherwise Schism for permanent coat of arms or Republic for Appoint Governor & to give Roaches his near guaranteed immortality back. Roaches likes Royal Decree too since it can help him whip everyone multiple times to spread 2-3 roaches/poison/bleeding to all enemies.
Ernest has higher utility potentially with Joel/Leigh/Xaria/Morton/Rat Child/Roaches since he can use Double Time to give out extra attacks but Sam can also do that with Royal Decree. Even then Aster's Strategic Huddle prob immediately makes Aster better than Ernest for buffing on recruitment even with those teams since it's incredibly cheap (6 STM vs 20 STM), lasts multiple battles, and adds an extra 15% to crit to all attacks including many abilities you wouldn't think it would impact like Audrey's Refreshments. Ernest has a better turn to turn DPS cause of Squeakems/Feedback spam + better status effect prevention for the entire party with Song of Willpower but I think Strategic Huddle alone might be so versatile and strong that it makes Aster immediately a direct upgrade. And that's before we talk about Fire Safety Protocol's utility vs Furnace and a few others + Um Actually curing all status effects too - I do think Song of Willpower is likely better but I could see the argument for Aster just immediately replacing Ernest later on in a run. Strategic Huddle > Song of Strength though which is gonna be what Ernest tries to spam to keep up with Strategic Huddle at low cost. 20% extra damage is nice but 15% extra crit can do some absurd things when you stack crit.

Maybe
I think I may just find the thought of the survivors having to deal with and navigate the logic of a Chase fractal with "puppet" appendages capped with Massacre Princess characters amusing. And not totally impossible to deal with as survivors who played massacre princess would have more idea of what to do and all that.

I meant more as final bosses shift from fight to flight that makes their situation even worse by having their fears manifest as even more shade Sams showing up out of thin air as shades tend to do (or the MP party members now that you mention it)
I was surprised there wasn't any interaction from using painful stab on the Visitor, I mean it's an explicitly very painful wound that hurts when it moves being inflicted on the eye of an ever changing thing that probably never even understood the concept of pain before

TRUE, I forgot about that, and the fact he's not just using a camcorder/gopro. It only makes sense he's using a real smartphone. I assumed he bought his NeoDuo with his money from his channel. I wish he wasn't basically a solo dev and he could just port it to fucking gamemaker like Lisa and actually do interesting shit with it since he clearly wants to work on it more than Malison.
>>
>>
>>3921544
My point is that if he's going to continue working on LO as he clearly enjoys it, he should port it to a real engine where he could actually experiment and do more interesting stuff in to test FOR Malison.
It's doing the game, and his own creativity a disservice by having it be stuck in RPGM

It's not an engine issue. It's a developer skill issue. The trouble is, because he lucked into a fanbase of Neanderthals who will pay up $10 for the privilege of playing sludge that is worse than countless free RPGM games (made by developers with actual skill) he has zero incentive to improve - he KNOWS you will tolerate the sludge. He KNOWS you're a bunch of retarded hogs who will line up in front of the trough any time he updates a single pixel in his game so you can spend 10,000 posts across 20 general threads analyzing that single pixel.
Congratulations on being just another shitty version of the Undertale/Deltarune fanbase.

I wonder how gameplay could be in a look outside not constrained by RPGM
Maybe it'd not be possible to pull of the amount of stuff look outside has I guess, where it feels like half the game is 'oh what weird shit will be in the next apartment we check out' in how it plays out.

>Flawed ritual variant where someone may 'substitute' for a failed astronomer that has no idea what the visitor looks like but just acts like they know and is totally out of their depth (vincent I guess is this?)
>ritual variant w/ corrupted or doppleganger or worm astronomer (disrupted ritual)
>>
>>
>>3921624
Eugene, Lyle or Jeanne I think would be likely substitutes going by "proximity to aster" logic, unsure if being already cursed disqualifies when Jasper was cursed. And being cursed yet sane still causes mutations from the gaze?
Eugene already has worm subplot stuff and comes off as someone who would be very fuck that about anything outside related.
Jeanne is mixed case as on one hand, very good cause to not want to go outside. On the other, confidence after laundry and maybe boredom/curiosity after a few days. And yeah let's not find out what a direct gaze from the visitor would do to a hydra.
Lyle is probably the most likely one of the three to agree to substituting due to knowing a bit of it and sam's involvement with the astronomers to be honest.
But man losing 2 party members if you also recruited aster sounds pretty bad.

Anon posted YHVH specifically from smt4a. Nanashi is the godslayer who killed YHVH since he's a piece of shit.Hellen, since she wanted to kill the visitor, basically a god
Mephisto, from the dlc mindrapes him into hallucinating a fun beach scene.
Mephisto is not actually a vampire, but looks like one.
Tldr. Smt4a is good, play it

Look Outside evidently wasn't meant to be super big
Malison being the main project makes sense the more I think about it, as it explains why you see fantasy monsters that wouldn't be out of place in Malison (the furnace, the rat king and such).

Fractal Chase is the most annoying world fractal Sam. Yeah he poked the visitor’s eye and scared the visitor off, but the world is now filled with those damn puppets of stuff from that game. Could be worse as the delusion constrains his logic so if a monster branch attacks as a ”random encounter” you just need to hit it enough to make it fuck off after it regurgitates coins. Chase himself is a branch and you cannot convince him that he is doing it as he doesn’t view himself as one entity to begin with.

Though I'm pretty sure someone has done some RPG thing out there where the premise of the game or at least one of the areas is that there is a massive eldritch monster and all the characters/enemies you encounter are all tendrils of it with specialized personalities that are fragments of the mind at the core of it all. And I don't mean like puppets on strings or separate bodies; you can very obviously see they're tendrils of some much more massive organism. If a game like that exists I'd be interested in it.
