I'm replaying FFV. Talk me out of grinding Lv5 Death against the statues in that one castle.

You simply don't need to do it. If you've already played the game, you probably know which jobs you want to focus on, and you get tons of AP later, especially from all the magic pots in the phoenix tower that give 100 a pop.
Also, the game just isn't that hard. Harder than most of the entries that came after it, sure. But not by that much. Especially if you've already played it before and vaguely know what to expect.
>>
>>3916927
You don't need that. Instead focus on exp. In the second world there is a castle with a dragon enemy. Has too much HP but if you control it with the monster tamer skill you can kill him with his own attack.
He gives 25000 exp. The highest in any non new post game content version of the game.

>Instead focus on exp
Lol, no. Being overleveled is pointless since leveling doesn't affect your stats very much in this game outside of HP/MP totals. Most of your stat boosts are going to come from equipment and your current job.
If OP is going grind, he may as well do it to get abilities that are fun to use, as well as the innate stats and passives that get transferred to freelancer/mime once you master a job. Actual level grinding is a total waste of time in a normal FF5 playthrough.

The only reason to stop and grind there is if you want to do some work on Red Mage so you can get to Dualcasting sooner. Which isn't even necessary as it's one of the most overpowered abilities in the game, but it is fun to play with, especially since you can mix and match black/white/time/summon magic with it. If dualcast worked with blue magic too, it would probably be the most abusable ability in the game.
>>
>>3916927
This is a 100% playthrough right? The one where you get all the blue magic spells? Either way if you're playing the PR version it's pointless because all the postgame is removed and there are significant nerfs that make it meaningless.

Honestly, after finally playing the GBA version to take a stab at the postgame stuff, I don't think it's really worth it. If you've already played the game once or twice, I WOULD recommend the FF5R romhack, if you're looking for a challenge. There's an English translation called "FF5R Clean Edition" that does a really good job, as well as adding a bunch of great QOL like b-button dashing and L/R menu switching.
It's basically a remix of FF5 that expects you to know how to abuse the job system and turns every boss into a puzzle, moreso than the original game. There's a lot of added content, as well as enemies and bosses from other FF and Squaresoft games. There are even a lot of dedicated AP grinding enemies that will just give you free AP but no XP so you don't have to get overleveled.

>but there's a reason Hero's Rhyme exists and is good.
Which is exactly why level grinding is a waste of time.

level affects almost every damage formula and being high level totally trivializes the game. it lets you roll over everything but a few gimmick bosses using trash jobs like zerker with no sub ability

the postgame in gba ff is kind of awful and the content is all varying degrees of shit, like a romhack

Narp, you have to pay attention to what he does and use the spells you have. You can put his zombies to sleep so they can't attack when he orders them to, and you can mute him so he can't cast bolt/bolt 2. I don't think sleep wears off until you physically attack something, but mute definitely does, so be careful not to kill all his zombies, because that's when he casts bolt 2.
The romhack is designed so that level grinding is pretty much never the necessary solution. Most regions have some place you can encounter wild chocobos or some other monster to get just AP if you need to get abilities, though.

Yeah, I always hate that. I think my next fiesta is going to have to be a different ruleset because I really wanna get both red mage and time mage for some real shenanigans.

It sounds to me like you want to pick your party composition and not have it randomly determined for you, anon.

Damn, that's one of the most easy-mode fiesta rolls I've ever seen. I think the only way it could be better is if you got time mage or mystic knight instead of red mage.
Don't forget that, innately, any potion or ether used by a chemist will be twice as effective, whether the target is themselves or another party member.
Also, I hope you got white wind from the enchanted fans in the flying ruins before you cleared it. I'm not sure when your next chance is.

ooh that's really good
spellblade/mystic knight/sorcerer(every class has like 5 names because of numerous popular translations) is one of the best jobs, I've gotten it a lot in recent runs.
my last fork tower with mystic knight I had it solo the magic half.
I think I switched between Break Blade and Mute Blade for the encounters going up(could've fled, but I think it's more fun to fight through dungeons).
Then just mute sword the boss.

Zerker is probably the worst you can get in a fiesta, but there's enough quirks to it that I've grown fond of it.
Like the Death Sickle and Gaia Hammer.

Just made it to this two towers bit and I don't understand the gimmick. The left tower has enemies that physically hit for 9999 and do magic attacks for several times my HP. The pixel remaster autosaves let me basically brute force my way through with luck, and when I got to the right tower the enemies didn't do jack shit nor the did the boss. Now I'm stuck on the boss that only casts magic and has seemingly an infinite amount of MP. Just cast Osmose on him for an easy 600MP and he kept going. Have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing here.
The game has really fallen off for me. I haven't enjoyed anything since the end of the first overworld.

one tower fucks you in the ass if you use physical attacks
the other fucks you in the ass if you use magic attacks
For that boss, if you physically attack him he instantly counters with Return which resets the fight to the beginning of the encounter. Don't bother with MP draining strats because he has 30k MP. You can berserk him to shut off his magic or abuse reflect to become effectively invincible. Just don't use non-magic attacks otherwise you have to start the fight over.

You sound smart

Beat the boss. Re-evaluated my equipment and found a reflect ring. So I just put my berserker to sleep and then cast magic on myself until the boss died. Still didn't understand the mechanics, because he cast silence and stop on me which bounced off and clearly affected him, but then he'd keep taking turns casting magic. Also even after casting reflect on himself, cure magic would not bounce off even though it does when I do it. I wish there was some consistency in this game.
>>
>>3918349
>You sound smart
Yes. I understand a 30 year old game that was designed for children.
>he cast silence and stop on me which bounced off and clearly affected him, but then he'd keep taking turns casting magic.
Silence and stop wear off. Very quickly on bosses.
>Also even after casting reflect on himself, cure magic would not bounce off even though it does when I do it.
If you cast the heal spell on him, it's possible reflect had worn off. Only the ring causes permanent reflect. If he cast the heal spell on himself, he probably reflected it off your character with the ring, since spells only reflect once.
>I wish there was some consistency in this game.
There is. But we've already established you can't pay attention and don't engage, so I'll trust that you're the one who is mistaken and not the game.

>countering every sentence
lmao
Okay now I have a new problem. I have a Mime equipped with Berserk, Equip Swords, and 2-Hand, but now they won't attack. Every time it's their turn they pose like they've readied an action and then it just skips them.

For someone who needs constant guidance, you sure don't like to be taught, huh? Sasuga.
>Every time it's their turn they pose like they've readied an action and then it just skips them.
Because berserk works by triggering the attack command which, you may have noticed, a mime doesn't actually have. If you want to use 2-handed berserk, you're better off putting it on a freelancer, since they can actually attack, and can innately equip any weapon, thus removing your need for equip swords.

I finally beat it! Took me around 40 hours. My heavy hitter was Krile with Berserker & 2-Hand with the Brave Blade and the haste boots. She was doing 8k damage per hit. Took me several attempts until I got lucky on Neo Ex-Death. The others were Black/Time mage, Chemist throwing items to support (although I only had elixers left so I didn't get any special use from the class unfortunately), and a dual wielding blood sword rapid hit Bartz.
Glad I was on the PR because this was really similar to FF3's final gauntlet. The autosaves came in clutch. Those two super bosses on the path to the end were cheesy and wiped me out. I couldn't beat that guy with the 4 drones right before the last boss.

Wtf are you talking about? Dualcast is almost worthless, 999 + previous levels to get, doesn't replace red magic on redmage, only works with red magic which is only white and black spells up to level 3 aka useless after 1st world. The only reason you use it is challenge runs.
Seriously wtf crack are you smoking have you never used dualcast before?
>>
>>3920004
>only works with red magic which is only white and black spells up to level 3 aka useless after 1st world.
Works with high level black, time, summon and white magic.
White Mage with Dualcast can cast Holy twice in a turn.
A Mime can add Dualcast and 2 of those.
Like Dualcast+Time Mage+White Magic.
Doesn't work for Blue Magic.
This is very common knowledge for ff5 players and often what people end up using at the end of one of their first games, so don't know why you're sperging about it.

I always loved doing this because you can cast Quick, which gives you two, free, uninterrupted actions, and use that to do two dualcasts for four spells in a row.
The only shitty thing about dualcast is that the two spells technically happen as part of the same action, so you can't revive a party member and hit them with a heal/buff in the same turn, since they won't revive until both spells are resolved. I don't remember if Quick has the same rules as well.
