New Paper Mario style game released a couple weeks ago. Anyone else played it yet? I just got it today and plan to start it immediately since I love this type of combat.
Currently on sale on Steam bundled with Bug Fables (Which is 10/10 if you haven't played it. Also was made by an anon who originally posted in /vg/ gamedev threads before it really ramped up) so it's less than twenty bucks if you already have Bug Fables (which you probably do or should if you give half a shit about this game)

The sprites seem a little too cutesy or old animation-like for me, but the game seems to be self-aware of it. Curious how other anons feel about that. I'm willing to move past that if the combat is good.

I played through the prologue and a little bit of chapter 1. Actually pretty fun so far, and the dialogue is kinda funny. Very tongue-in-cheek, probably a little more so than actual Paper Mario or Bug Fables but not by much.
Also thought pic related was a nice reference to the Star Spirits from Paper Mario. Just a random side character. Thus far, the story isn't cringe. It doesn't seem to take itself too seriously. If anything, it makes fun of your typical "millenial writing" and "reddit humor" a lot by having the obviously dumb characters say those types of things.

Yeah, it's not really about that, or at least it's meant in an extremely unserious way. Pic related (and there isn't much dialogue like this, which is why I screencapped it). At least as far in as I am, it's honestly just a personal revenge narrative.
The game starts out with you playing as a hero and dragon from a storybook that's been invaded by a boring business company that extracts resources from storybooks by using portals to enter them. The dragon is just pissed that his castle got taken, and the hero is pissed that he can't just live his normal dragon-fighting life anymore, so they conspire to take down the company from within after initially attempting to fight them outright and figuring out that'll be too hard. Decent plot, very whimsical, but it's got some layers of mystery later I find reminiscent of Paper Mario TTYD's plot.
I've been playing on hard mode also, and it doesn't seem unfair or anything. Combat's really fun.

I know anon I've beaten the game
I just think that this phrase will spook away people that are just tired of all the stuff all over the place online and won't give the game a chance, would have been better as "fight against coorporatism" or something that isn't as charged of a term
the dragon is a girl btw

Oh lmao, I was unsure about Tinder being male or female but suspected it was a girl from some of the lines. I'm only in chapter 2 if that gets explained outright later.
And yeah, I felt the exact way you describe when I watched the trailer and saw that line, but I've been really liking the game.
