Does it lose steam with you halfway through or is it just me?

The first four or five hours are the best for me. You get excited when you find some good gear or magic, the dungeons are some of the best atmospheric levels of the ps2 era, and you're putting together your team and spending 20 hours to get a good points roll. Peak gaming until the graveyard.

Lose steam? no. But I do think that around B6 Moldy Fort there is a massive difficulty spike that will stop you in your tracks if you are unprepared. constant instant-death attacks and things like that. If you don't have the top tier AAs by floor 7/8, you have to grind out your party's trust.

I hate character creation, stat rolling, and don't care about loot that gets replaced in a few hours. I like mid game and end game loot that actually persists with your party significantly. I didn't face any tough battles at the start so the first 5 hour atmosphere felt non-threatening and thus dull, despite the cool aesthetics of it.

The game starts out pretty good, hits a rough bump in the middle at that graveyard, and then gets extremely good around floor 7 or 8. The last few floors are just excellent. The ending is one of the best in video games.

nothing crazy you're just gonna be running around in it for a good while if you're not using a guide and with how slow the semi-random encounters are it gets triply annoying. which is fine because it's supposed to be a game about crawling through a cursed labyrinth not rushing through a corridor but man fuck that graveyard.
