Just reposting this from the last thread for those who didn't see it:
Finally figured out how to unlock 243 FPS on a 165Hz monitor. Steps: using program settings in the Nvidia control panel, set max FPS for FM to 243 and Vertical Sync to Fast. Launch in 120Hz and switch once you've loaded your save.

FRESH CRINGE JUST DROPPED.
This needs to be seen to be believed. Four low T shills cope as they see their lazy lifestyles being flushed down the toilet with the game they pinned their reputations to.
Funny in the way The Office and Peep Show are funny.

pes baby here, i've been trying to get into the game for every new releases since 18 but every time it basically boils down to
>install game
>gets overwhelmed by all of the interaction bloat in-between matches
>tactic is cosmetic? in pes, your settings match the gameplay, maintain formation means players don't overlap as much, all out defense means they will all fall back to the penalty box when losing possession, "formation width", "pass distance" everything does exactly what it says while in fm, none of the tactics seem to matter
>i literally always get raped as buyern, shitty, fartca against fucking elche or stoke even when i don't touch the default tactics and often times it clearly says all of my players are "supremely motivated"
>player stat is cosmetic? in pes, dribbling stats, speed stats, jump/physical/defense stats make all the difference between shitty and world class players, i know pes is scripted slop but in that game you can simulate for example, thiago, absolute baller with 89 curve and insane ball control and passing stats yet his physique and finishing is shit and it feels like him, meanwhile in fm every player feels like identical stick figures who are capable of doing the same thing
>uninstall.exe, fresh reinstall windows even

Nothing fucking matters, set the tactic as gegenpressing, select and sign players with high acceleration and pace, set their training to quickness only and keep their morale high. Win champions league by season 2.

The SI playbook for whenever they don't feel like actually fixing their shit. Reminds me when Mentality "went away" circa FM14 : they hadn't removed it, just your ability to adjust it. Attributes being visible for staff? Just hide it. Hell, we even used to need Instant Result to be modded into skins because they didn't feel like giving it to you if you weren't playing the Touch version.
I wouldn't be surprised if the next "fix" for the new tactics system is to prevent you from having your defenders become attackers, because having the AI actually cope with it and punish you for it would be too difficult.
>>

>Reminds me when Mentality "went away" circa FM14 : they hadn't removed it, just your ability to adjust it
Removing the sliders was horrendous and it affected more than just mentality. Locking instructions according to role/duty and not allowing you to override them fundamentally limited how creative you can get with your instructions

Listen, I’m a normie-lite twat and every year for as long as I can remember I’ve bought the new fifa in September and messed around on that for a couple of months to feed the football fix when the new season starts while waiting for FM in November - then I ditch fifa completely and play nothing but football manager until the next September
This is the first year where that isn’t the case. Played the fm beta but quickly refunded. Load of shite.
I can’t believe it, it feels sacrilegious, but FC26 is a much better football game than football manager 26

The result in the final was 2-0 btw. A 38 year old free agent Harry Kane scored in the final, and scored five goals in total, just one behond the tournaments two top scorers Cole Palmer and Saka. Kane is retiring so that was his final game.
England's run to the final was: Scotland, Australia, and DR Congo in the groups, and then USA > Portugal > Georgia(!) > Belgium. I would dream of having a piss easy run like that.

In 26 I regularly see agents refer to their client as "her" despite me playing the mens leagues only and having switched off as much of the womeme shite as possible. That's a basic SI mistake compared to this other one I found:
>player misses glorious opportunity to score
>match engine commentary used to say "He'll kick himself for missing that"
They've very badly attempted to make this line gender-neutral because it'll now say, using a player called Valentini as an example:
>"Valentini'll kick Valentini for missing that"
Fucks sake SI, stop hiring pajeets.

Man I just booted up FM14 again and I don't remember the roles being so weird.
All striker roles, CM-A, CWB/WB-A don't have 'get further forward' automatically active(and it's entirely unavailable for the strikers), and the Advanced Playmaker has both 'get further forward' and 'hold position' automatically active on both support and attack.
So did roles/duties only affect mentality and creative freedom in that game?
>>
>>2286251
It is kinda sweet that IFs don't have 'dribble more' active automatically so they don't act braindead all the time. The engine has lots of 10 passing between the CB and FB into a running wide man as well so they work sweet.

Pic related, the stupid "pop-up" menu function bugged out while I was tactic-tinkering and was still in front of the screen even after the match and somehow I was able to save (by asking the game to quit, prompting the "do you wish to save?" message) and reload.

Agility, Acceleration, and Reflexes are the only attributes that really matter for GKs, so, yeah, probably would've been just as good as an outfield player, but he can be just fine as a keeper as long as his reflexes get trained up to at least a 12 or so over the next ten years.

This guy was given an estimate value of £10m+ when he appeared in my intake, I'd since given him a quite a few games in the first team, he has scored some vital late goals (including a very late equaliser in the Copa Lib final), he has successfully adapted to the AMR inside-forward position I put him on, and Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United, and Spurs are active/rumoured to be interested in him... however I don't get why this game seems to like him so much. He only has ok speed, his highest attribute is 16 Flair, and the rest is just mentlels, physilels, and technilels. I don't see the big deal here.

So we always should follow what the current trend in world football is like without any room for innovation or creativity?
I'm playing a videogame, not real life, and even in real life teams experiment, 3 CB 2 WB wasn't a thing until recently, everyone criticized Amorin for doing it in Portugal initially until he perfected it there.
>>
>>2296501
The game should reflect real life as it is in the year of release. Maybe as the save progresses the dynamic could change but even then it should involve heavy RNG elements and would be very messy, it's better to keep it static.
>3 CB 2 WB wasn't a thing until recently
3atb with 2 wing-backs is a common template in football for decades now. The closest thing we got to something novel in recent times was Bielsa's 3-3-1-3 which had mixed results(was fired from Lille while sitting in the relegation zone for example) and far from established itself in football, so it's entirely reasonable that the match engine won't accomodate it.

I tried during the beta and I was immediately met with a NWSL squad registration that more or less said I would have to sell two of my five best players because of foreign player limits. Then I looked up my team's real matches and those people play together all the time, a lot of the older players who have been in the league forever are grandfathered in as non-foreign.
This is the kind of bug I have zero tolerance for because, like. No one tried to play in this league before you shipped the game?

My highly paid and rated DC/DM with pretty insane stats for the league wanted a squad number the previous season, which I didn't give to him because I let the assman pick the numbers and he didn't give the number to him, and I didn't manually check because I forgot he was expecting that promise. Told him that I'll give him the number when the next season starts, and that was OK to him. Problem is, that second promise expired before the season started and before I could give players new numbers. Player got pissed, said he can't play for the club anymore because so many promises has been broken, and I had to sell him to keep the locker room atmosphere good. Fuck this game sometimes.

The reason stats are buried, and in many cases simply inaccessible, is because the matches generate completely insane numbers that would, quite rightly, shatter any sense that you're playing a football sim. I have it on good authority that Miles was very specific about not allowing the Chinese players to get eyes on the data, for fear that they'd destroy the games credibility.
An example I was given, during testing average shots per match often sat above 60, when it should be closer to 15. This is also why so many shots miss, they weighted the algorithm to maintain an average shot to goal ratio closer to reality.
In short the match engine is completely broken. Matches aren't 'simulated', results are spat out via a heavily weighted RNG system.

>>
>>2306538
I always Remove+Exclude shit I will never agree to:
>match highest earner
>minimum fee release clause (these are mandatory in Spain however, so I just set it to a non-negotiable very high non-Figo fee)
>yearly salary % increase
>sell-on fee %
It usually means the agent will insist on increasing salary by as much as a third or more however. But I don't care.

I don't think BGK/SK are punished anywhere near enough as they are IRL. This season has been particularly bad (I think) for the sweeper keeper meme but I've never seen long-range goals scored from open play in the match engine (only from counter-attacks after a set-piece).

Not the anon you've replied to, but I also play a lot of ootp. It's comparable to FM on the whole, where it has a kind of flawed match engine (though ootp's depends a lot more on which version you've purchased, and I would try to avoid the most recent versions because they've gone all in on their fifa ultimate team version and the original developer sold the company to private equity, though it's slightly better in general in that all of the attributes appear to actually matter and influence outcomes) but it has a much, much more in depth talent development system. It isn't great at international baseball, at least in the versions I've played, and the licensing for leagues other than MLB is spotty and inconsistent and changes every year. It's really customizable and comes with a much more powerful in-game editor that lets you control the entire universe from inside the save instead of before with the database editor in FM, so I've made more than half a dozen fantasy saves.
Overall, the versions I've played have felt a bit more janky and spreadsheety than FM, but deeper and more involved. If you're the kind of baseball enjoyer who knows what your leadoff hitters xWOBA is and what BSR is, you'll enjoy it, otherwise you'll probably get overwhlemed with the sheer volume of the numbers thrown at you to process.
>>
>>2306709

>>
>>2306712
>is it a good game if i wanna get my billy beane on and take over some loser/poverty franchise and lead them to a WS?
That's certainly something you can try to do, but it's going to be a struggle more than in FM. Foolish Baseball did a playthrough of trying to save the As last offseason that's pretty much what you described — you can check it out to get an idea of what playing in that environment is like.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtZyV2P7E6Y&list=PL3lJFzNSaN7TzjXt78pb tKsWxd5YXD_Uo
>how well does it simulate players not wanting to be traded to shitty teams and stuff like that?
Pretty accurately to real life, which means that trades are easy because players have no control over them without a no-trade clause or 10/5 rights (which 99% of the players you'd ever trade for as a Marlins/As/Pirates etc. wouldn't have). Signing free agents to a poverty franchise is hard because you need to overpay to attract anyone, but you don't have any money from your owner to even do that. So, you basically have to hope that you overperform in the draft and international amateurs, but you also don't have the money to improve your minor league facilities/coaching.
Basically, just like real life, unless you get a miracle core like the 2014/15 Royals, you ain't winning shit as a small market team unless it generates a new owner for you who for some reason wants to lose money to win.

CM 01/02 is unironically peak autism balm.
It has real tactical depth, all the stats that we love, it lacks a 2D or 3D match engine (a good thing) and it also lacks all of the tedious bloat features and bugs. There is a very active and passionate community, as you'd expect with a game still being played and worked on after 25 years, with new patches and mods appearing all the time.
FM is for plebs who don't know.

Thank you, been thinking about returning to this game for a while. Took me a few attempts but i finally have it running in 1080p with 25/26 database. Managing Southampton to get them back in the prem.
I forgot how great the with ball and without ball positioning was, it's possible to really create interesting and original tactical approaches, and makes it easier to counter specific threats your opponents might pose. Don't miss the awful 3D match engine at all. I only view 2D but even that ends up shattering any faith you might have in the way tactics manifest in matches. Text is comfy af.
Masterpiece.
>>
>>
>>2309225
Didn't you get the memo? FM26 is completely broken across the board. Anything that appears to function as intended has been faked in order to give that appearance. The match engine is the worst it's ever been, but because the graphics are a tad shinier there is a chorus of retards proclaiming that it's great.
But the problems run even deeper. The AI is abysmal, training broken, tactics look the part but don't work at all. For example if you want a player to use a specific role out of possession, he needs to be fully trained in that role 'in possession, and yet even then players don't follow tactical instructions and just do whatever the RNG fakery tells them to. Don't even get me started on the data that they buried because it shines a light on how unrealistic everything is.

I hop teams fairly often, every 3-5 seasons or so.
Whenever I get an offer from a Gulf States team, depending on the stature and quality of the player, I use the ingame editor to sell the player for a value between 100M and 350M €
I don't even use that money (I keep track of it using a notepad), I just want those teams to fuck off, since I can't compete with the salaries they offer I just milk them dry, so that when I hop teams, whoever I used to manage has a nice reserve to blow on whatever the fuck they want.

Agree with every word. I wonder what the devs feel when they read shit like that. It's got to sting when the truth is laid bare like that. Perhaps they really don't know how shit they are, or maybe they just don't care.

the actually bad design decisions were made before this year imo. The press conferences are the obvious one but honestly that's probably a fun little immersion thing for people who are new to the games to mess around with a few times, all with flavor text they have already written, translated into hungarian and korean etc. There is no way anyone is enjoying the player interactions or the training, or ever has.
>>2310082
they don't behave that strangely if you take the "sugar daddy" designations away from their clubs' chairmen iirc, like it used to be before they started spending that much money irl, just another place for a decent veteran player to go when he's been unattached for too long

>the actually bad design decisions were made before this year imo
Agreed. And not just design decisions, but overall strategy and planning for the future. They squeezed just about every last cent out of FM, and never really addressed any of the most serious failings. They had nowhere else to go with it except try for a sequel, and they completely fucked that up. Very sad story of squandered opportunity.

Yes lol. But in CM it's much better. You can tell every player where you want them to be on the pitch with and without the ball. By paying attention to appropriate stats like stamina and work rate you can increase workload for those players able to take it in order for them to cover more ground.
Combined with the right player instructions you can design completely unique player roles and tactical game plans to maximize your teams strengths and mitigate any weaknesses. If you understand your opponents strengths/weaknesses you can set the team up against bigger opponents and get favourable results. And it's all down to decisions you make. Not random like this modern dumbed down RNG shite.
CM is missing a lot of features, but in terms of the quality of the games systems it's on another level.

while i don't have a tonne of hope for them fixing FM26 any time soon the match engine stuff is really quite bad. i just won the carabou cup with a team that just got promoted to League One that was still using a lot of very mediocre National League level players.
it's absolutely going to fuck the player contract AI stuff because they're all going to gain too much fame for playing in a european competition and make ridiculous demands for their skill level. makes me want to jump to a different team but my goal of the save is to just fill the Premier League with teams i like
>>
>>2314092
yes but this is always the case. every version, even the much beloved cm0102 had tactics the match engine could not deal with. I think it was 2015 that had the broken 3 striker tactics with which you just could not lose

The reality is nobody can accurately simulate a football match, far too many variables. The best approach is to reduce those variables to the essentials, and to simulate those, tying in player stats and tactics etc. Text is just one way of presenting the results of those calculations, and many would argue it's preferable as it leaves the players imagination free to fill in the blanks, which actually increases immersion. It's how most strategy games deal with real time events.
The FM 3D match engine we see in FM was actually the corpse of an abandoned football game that Sega purchased and SI then grafted onto the game. The obvious question is how can a game made in isolation be expected to present the results of entirely unrelated simulation?
The answer of course has been bouncing around for years. It can't.
It's one of the few topics that guarantees you a permaban from SI forums should you raise it - That everything you see in the match highlights is predetermined, and that the move to 2D and then 3D marked the end of simulation and the beginning of theatre. A small price to pay for the graphics tards who love anything they can woooooo at..

a lot of sport journalism especially at lower levels is just an agent being nice to a journalist and getting a fluff piece written for his client (or at least a suggestion of "they should play Benitez more") so there's no way they can possibly build a wall against that for "FM researchers" who are just random guys. But yeah you could get into like a thousand problems with the actual game before touching the database once.
The women's stuff looks like it has too many attributes zeroed out even at good levels (so you just enter "150 CA, ML/AML" and it shoots out a generic winger), which is a little disappointing

My Italian club is expanding its stadium (it's was a new stadium at 28,000 seats - still constantly selling out games, its a bit insane) and is renting the closest Serie A-level stadium which is the Luigi Ferraris in Genoa (one of the few good-looking grounds in Italy and also its in BassyBoy's stadium pack) but that seems a bit mad to me because it's already used by two other clubs. I'm not sure this would be possible IRL given the potential fixture issues it would cause.

Literally never, because they're caught in the trap of selling new shiny visible thing for streamers and content creators and console morons to get excited about (because sales and eyeballs are literally the only thing that matters) and they don't have the financial bandwidth to switch their focus to fix underlying issues their hardcore audience would appreciate. Even if the hard-core audience suddenly stopped buying every/every other year, all that would do would make them double down on chasing new shiny visible features until Sega kills them because they're not selling enough to break even anymore. FM26 was a gambit where they traded long term fan support for short term market gain, except they fucked the product up massively. We'll have to see how FM27s sales look in comparison to 23/24/26 to see what kind of impact their recent decisions have had, but I'm not optimistic and genuinely think SI is closer to death than they are to fixing the underlying simulation aspects.

Rewriting the game engine isn't the same as rewriting their match engine. They ported the game engine from an in-house C++ solution to unity and C# without doing many changes at all to the actual match engine.
So, yes, pace and acceleration (and reflexes/agility for GKs) are basically the only attributes that matter still.
>>
>>2319912
Wtf? If they just rewrote the UI why'd they have to work for 'years' and still not do it in time and make it even shittier? That makes no sense. And why were people excited for a rewrite if it was just for a perfectly good UI?
>>
>>
>>2320428
>If they just rewrote the UI why'd they have to work for 'years' and still not do it in time and make it even shittier?
Because their management is utterly inept and completely detached from why their product is even appealing. It taking the better part of five years of background preparation and then two full years of direct dev work doesn't seem unreasonable; the fact that they thought they'd get it all done in a month between releases (and especially the part that Mike came out and admitted that publicly) makes them look maliciously incompetent.
>And why were people excited for a rewrite if it was just for a perfectly good UI?
Because new shiny thing must be good. In theory, switching to Unity and C# makes it significantly easier for them to both train new staff and hire people with existing skillsets, but that would require their management to be somewhat competent and not to simply be coasting on what is essentially a publicly sourced scouting network and the steep entry cost it would take any serious competitor to overcome.

Is 26 any good now?
Also I hate how they keep making man management, an aspect that's inherently unfun and impossible to properly simulate more annoying with every game. Like in 25 players just constantly ask for triple wages and shit and they basically removed your captain being able to solve issues. How is 26 in that aspect?

Crazy how much FM26 has improved in such a short time. Honestly super excited for the future of this game, turned out ditching the old tech and taking a year to develop it was definitely the right way to go.

Like all games, this one depends upon the suspension of disbelief.
If players stop believing in the integrity of core mechanics, game systems and the simulation a whole, or, if they are no longer happy to be fooled by the fakery because the payoff is inadequate, the game dies.
This game is dying.

If I'm (>>2319770) '2 weeks until SI dies' anon, you should reread what I actually said, because it wasn't that I think they're likely to actually die anytime soon. I believe SEGA axing them is significantly more likely than SI fixing the underlying simulation issues, not that either of those are actually particularly likely.

I would only understand the fans being upset at losing one of these guys in real life. McClanahan was good, but he was a bullpen arm for us. Decker was a second-year player who operated as our fourth outfielder and occasional DH despite his 100 OPS+. Kochanowicz was a rookie, low-leverage bullpen arm.

Lost at home to Fenerbahce using a possession based system while they were counter-attacking. Made tactical changes for the second leg and overturned the deficit in Turkey. Adjustments:
-flat back 5 out of possession, wing backs made to run back further and defend more by placing them in the fullback position
-middle defender of the back three set to aggressively man-mark their lone striker who had too much space in the first match
-removed low crosses instruction to take advantage of a height disparity i didn't notice
-let them have the ball because they aren't strong with it, high temp counter attacking with overlaps when we win possession
Additionally it was nice to watch all of this on extended highlights with replays turned on. I don't usually tweak anything ahead of matches, but the loss at home made me do it. If I had noticed a few things before the first match I probably could have won both legs.
