I feel like at this point it's definitely by choice. She has the voice, the motivation, and the audience, there's really no reason for her not to have a single original song out by now unless she didn't want one.
Personally, I do hope she eventually does a cover album at the very least. I'm not the biggest fan of her style of singing but I can't deny she has some very good covers.
