Kid me from 20 something years ago obsessed over Halo from.

for some reason I remember the original coming with demo games too. My sister and I would play Fusion Frenzy in between her wanting to replay the first level because it was her favorite.

I loved the third level, Truth and Reconciliation. The song, "Under Cover of Night" still follows me today, a different time and age, along side me staring at the main menu, seeing the ring spin to the sound of gregorian chant. I didn't know how easy life was back then.

still to this day, halo 3 mp maps had some of the most unique vibes that I've never experienced elsewhere. like being isolated on an alien planet but you're being observed. or there's a secret hidden just beyond the surface of what the player can see.

I stop by ever few weeks to see how the thread goes. Playing the same levels on Halo over and over again, i didn't know those memories would be the most precious i would have. i look at these papes in anguish of what i could have been.

*and what Halo could have been if they let it die at the original trilogy haha

I love the non-combat scenes. The grounded, realistic sci-fi vibe of Halo is so underrated. I could picture Halo being a possible timeline, that's what made it so appealing to me as a kid already obsessed with military culture from countless fps games and movies. Near future is full on Deus Ex, then turns into Halo as contact is made with ET's...
