I watched this yesterday. The cinematography, set design, and costumes are all excellent, but the writing started to grate on me after a while. Everyone talks only in philosophical code with no normal dialogue at all and most characters shout every line. It’s hammy as fuck and exhausting, even for someone like me who’s a fan of Tarkovsky. that episode, between it being split up between two seasons (I consider it "one episode" basically) and the cringy foreshadowing to it beforehand to filler the first part, as well as the shitty drawn out S&M dom porn-tier faggotry of the second one, absolutely ruined THE BEST scene in the entire comic series. Hot take but I really don't like 2049. I thought the original had so much more soul. I don't think 2049 is a bad movie, but the origonal's asthetic and soundtrack are so much better. Honestly my favorite part of the original is the soundtrack, but unfortunately 2049's soundtrack is just dystopian cyber synthslop. It's nice when you hear it in the movie, but the original's soundtrack just adds so much to the atmosphere of the movie and it's so chill to listen to the esper edition of the soundtrack on a rainy day. Yeah that's about where i stopped watching. Between the show constantly bringing in and killing off tons of completely forgettable characters, and the shift from zombie show to human vs human post apocolypse with some zombies thrown in, it just wasn't fun anymore. Part of the appeal of the first few seasons was getting lost in the fantasy of what I'd do, but once everyone's under negan's thumb it's just like there's trying to optimize the zombie apocolypse anymore because it's just a really shitty situation.

I saw 2049 on the big screen and I admit it was a spectacle for the eyes, but it was just that. Not a bad movie as you said, but really it's strong point is the fact you can make very nice background images from it. It left me nothing, generally speaking.
I remember when I first watched the original: on my old pc, in my room, with no IMAX o audio system... I had no doubt I had just seen my favorite movie of all times both visually and for it's soundtrack. Each scene had so much going on for it, I could talk about it for hours.
Decades later, it's still my favorite movie and every couple of months I have to fight the itch to buy the official 1k gun replica

Then in true hollywood fashion, they bought the BR IP for nothing, remixed Vangelis' sound track and put his name to it, got Harrison Ford out of retirement in a t-shirt and jeans and forced some lame replicants can have human babies plot on to it.
