posting this here on a long shot, because I have spent a few hours looking for a way to do this to no avail. Got the posts I tried to make on the offical reddit deleted, nobody answered on the discord.

Basically I have a controller, the 8bito M30 Wired. As you can see from picrel, it only has one directional input, a dpad that can be toggled to be dpad inputs or left stick inputs. I bought it because I pretty much exclusively play metroidvanias and fighting games.

What I want is that while holding down a button, say RS, I can translate dpad inputs to LS down, up, etc, or RS down, up, left, etc. I thought this would very simple to do but pretty much every program I've tried only works for gamepad > mouse/keyboard inputs. If you say why do you need this I will kill myself. I have heard it enough. So don't do that please. Also don't tell me to get a normal controller.

What I have tried so far:
-the controller firmware
-joyshockmapper
-controllerbuddy
-inputmapper
-antimicrox

None of these let you do anything like what I am asking for. I have heard of reWASD but it is like 100 dollars and for that price I could just get a hori octa or something.

Write your own controller software then

Hope you solve this, but also you do well beyond it

Sounds like Steam Input would work. It has control layers you can trigger by holding down a button and can output either keyboard or controller buttons.

Add your games to steam as non-steam games. If they're already in Steam, all the better.

When playing your game, open the steam overlay and enter "Steam Input". Steam Input allows you to define chords which will do exactly what you want, but there's a little bit of a learning curve.

Steam Input will for sure do what you want, for anything launched through Steam.
DS4Windows would also work system-wide if you have a Switch input mode on that controller, but I'm guessing the Xbox M30 would be the one version that doesn't.
