I'm in the midst of drawing a tarot deck. The trumps, aces and 1 king are done. I made them fairly large so I've got another decade or so of work ahead of me. Here's the first one I did back in 2015

Yeah, but they are fairly large. The Trumps are 34cm x 55cm and fit nicely in a 24x36 frame with a little border leftover.
I'm doing the Minor Arcana in a smaller format but with the same proportion, so those are 21cm x 34cm and they've been going quicker, but still not as quick as I'd like.
A decade seems like a long time but it's coincided with a deep dive into more aspects of the occult than I can even list, and that has informed the art. The amount of synchronicities that occur with these cards have convinced me to try not to worry about the time they take but to enjoy surfing the divine timing. Here's a more recent one that was done a couple years ago
>>
>>41853640
My god, did you use a ruler and make every single one of those background lines? Insane.
Will you ever release the entire pack online when you are done?
BTW the bugs wings were also very well done. Do you have a gallery?
>>
>>41853722
Yes I did use a ruler, well a T-square, for all those lines. Had to nail the papyrus look. The hieroglyphs at the corners are appropriate passages from the Book of the Dead. The eyes of Horus and Ra, the boat, and the sun make a big grinning clown face with a lit-up 3rd eye. A reference to this realm being clown world and/or the divine clown. I autustically load up as much as I can into each one.

Here's the moon to balance out the sun. The moon is witchcraft, lunacy, illusion, mystery, etc...

I plan to release a pack of them when I'm done. I actually kinda want to publish a Trumps-only deck since I'll be working for several more years on the minor arcana. My first deck was a Giger trumps-only deck so it fits I guess.
I did put up some stuff on a zazzle account but that's about it for an online gallery thing. One more thing my autistic ass needs to handle. I get so locked into the art of it I neglect those things
>>
>>41853823
It's a shame the scanner rapes the quality. At this point a modern cell phone might be a better route.
As the others, it has amazing levels of detail, though the feet looked phoned in and stand out as blobs compared to everything else being so polished.
You musta been drawing a long time. Also really impressed with the typeface detail too on these. You really need a steady hand.
>>
>>41854053
I agree with you, scanners aren't built for this kinda thing and it's been tricky trying to get good scans. As for her feet, my reasons for them looking like that are: she's wearing nylons, it's a night scene which obscures slight details and also the art for these is supposed to be shrunk down and made into small cards. So a lot of details will be lost anyways so at a point I call it good enough and move onto the next.

I have been drawing since I was a kid, but figuring out certain techniques later in life allowed me to ramp up my skills substantially.
Especially the study and use of sacred geometry in the composition.

I try to tie a certain archetypal figure into the card, like "What historical/mythical/godlike character best represents the energy of the card. Like Ra for the Sun, Hecate for the Moon, etc... So the Priestess is based on Persephone. She's an initiator and therefore guards the doors to the underworld. Thus explaining the Eyes Wide Shut vibe. There's a ton of kabbala symbolism in there too. The camel for gimel, the snakes doing the kundalini on the pillars. Her dress is blood. The funny thing about this one is that well after I'd gotten it done I saw a Taylor Swift video and there's a scene that looks exactly like this card. Kinda funny, especially given her supposed relation to Zeena Lavey, but totally unintentional

>"What historical/mythical/godlike character best represents the energy of the card., etc
I hope people out there appreciate all the thought and detail you are putting into these.
The "s"s on these, just as an example, are copied so perfectly, are they stencilled or you just have a very good eye for copying and letting? Did you study calligraphy?
Do you have any non-tarot/x artwork? Kinda curious what else you draw.
>but figuring out certain techniques later in life allowed me to ramp up my skills substantially.
Especially the study and use of sacred geometry in the composition.
Do you draw digital or trad only? Any reasons you stay on trad?
>>
>>41854270
Regarding the lettering... I never studied calligraphy. In fact, I tried but I'm left-handed and so normal calligraphy pens don't work for me. I tried a left-handed version but found them to be wonky. So I try to get a feel for what the card is and make letters that reflect that. So if it's an energetic card I make it italic, or things like that. Beyond that I break it all down mathematically and then grid it out. Each letter gets x amount of space. Then I pencil sketch some things till I get a feel for it and then ink it in. Having a Ellipse template and french curves help a lot in making them precise.

I don't have much non-tarot artwork that has been done in the recent past. The tarot thing has kinda taken all my focus since I started it.
>Do you draw digital or trad only? Any reasons you stay on trad?
Trad only. I have a very difficult relationship with tech. It likes to malfunction and not work right for me. Also, with the tartot cards specifically, I view the whole process as a magickal working and so in a "mad hermit locked away in his attic scribbling" kinda way it appeals to me in ways that digital doesn't.

Here's the Devil. Satan is the adversary and so he's playing you in a game of chess. He's a jack in the box, as in Pandora's box. Several of my other cards show up as pieces, you can see the Priestess as the queen in front. Others are the Hierophant, Death and the Tower. Since you like the lettering I think this is one of the more unique ones I did

I like the lettering on this one, it feels evil, devilish. The snake on the H, the pointy tail on the L, and scythe shape on the Es.

>Then I pencil sketch some things till I get a feel for it and then ink it in.
I'd like to see one of your cards in a wip format, I assume you lay down a lot of faint pencil lines before inks, and I assume color comes last.
Since you are trad have you had many "urgh fuck!" moments where you can't undo a mistake?
How long does a card take? Several days, weeks, of prep and work?

I'm still here, just an introvert and been focusing on the current one, which is the King of Cups, modelled after Neptune.
Here's another one, this is Death. I did have an earlier version of this character in a piece I did just prior to starting this deck.
So life is just a big ride and therefore so is death since they're different sides of the same coin. So he's riding a merry go round since time is cyclical. You've got the Anubis adornments at top along with the Ace of Spades. Also the very top are scorpion tails for Scorpio. The little "time flies" hourglasses at the bottom are kinda fun. I modelled the merry go round after one that's at a nearby zoo and I took a ton of reference pics. Death rides a pale horse and I thought bone qualified as pale. All the other merry go round animals and riders are gone because, well, they're dead. The arm on the ground is like a zombie coming back
>>
>>41879889
Here's the original piece. I had drawn it up as a t-shirt design for my band at the time and it must've cursed it because the band broke up before I ever got the shirts made, ha
That band played an important role in me digging deeper into the occult so it served its purpose, plus it gave me this guy. As you can see it's a tarot card as well, just not done like the ones in the set since it pre-dates the first one of those by a year or two. So I was dipping my toe into the tarot stuff before I dove in for the full journey
>>
>>41855690
I'll try to dig up some wip at some point. My methodology is I lay down the geometry first, which is a golden or fibonacci rectangle folded on itself four ways. Then I place a circle in both the top big square and the bottom (as above so below) and then determine what pointed star to place in each circle depending on the energy of the card.
From there I'll separate the letter box and grid out the letters, so there's this white box at the bottom like a polaroid.
Then I will often rig up a smaller version and use that for concept sketches and try to figure out what I want it to look like and hang the picture on the geometry basically.
I use inks, prismacolor pencils and a small amount of acrylics to add things like reflections. If you use mineral spirits and blending stubs you can smear the prismacolor and then add more layers, then blend it more, repeat until you have the opacity and richness of color that you like.
>Since you are trad have you had many "urgh fuck!" moments where you can't undo a mistake?
Yeah but that's part of the challenge. Everyone messes up, the masters know how to hide it so you never know.
>How long does a card take? Several days, weeks, of prep and work?
The Trumps were averaging around 3 months until the last few which got up to 4. The minor arcana are taking around 2-3 months, but they're about 40% of the size. I was hoping they'd go faster but the research time is still roughly the same. For research I do a lot of reading in Kenneth Grant, Crowley, Levi, etc.. and take notes

I wanted to add some spiritual bread for any anons relating to the tone of this art. I want YOU to have what I have. I want YOU to be at peace. T
The (((media))) have turned you upside down, in order to deny you from this peace. There Is Only One Way.
While Satan uses a variety of techniques to control the human race, it is fair to say that to the extent life's futility motivates mankind to seek eternal solutions to the hopelessness of temporal life, to that extent it is clearly in the devil's interest to direct humanity's activities into other channels (as best he can). And, indeed, much human effort over the millennia has been directed toward solving, mitigating or flat out denying the essential truth of the meaninglessness of life apart from God. Indeed, mankind has made a science of discovering interesting amusements and diversions to try and take the sting out of life – in vain. For the sin we have inherited from Adam guarantees that the sting of death will continue to loom large for all who ever choose to take a sober, realistic look at the true dynamics of life (1Cor.15:54-57).
1/2
>>
>>41895124
2/2
Oh the ineffable wisdom of God's judgment upon Adam and Eve! Giving them pain and toil in addition to an ultimate physical death was the best possible encouragement to look beyond this life for solutions. The promise of the woman's Seed (Christ) and the sacrifice for sin He would provide (foreshadowed in the coats of skin) were eagerly received and believed, at least in part because the contrast of the good life in Eden with the complete futility and hardship of life outside was so stark. God has not left us as orphans in this cruel world. Quite the contrary. He has made provision for our complete restoration to Himself through faith in the One who died for us, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The hardships of this life, and the essential pointlessness of it apart from God, are, in truth, a part of His grace, for they lovingly and effectively divert our gaze from the bitter life around us – if only for a brief, necessary moment – that we might seek something better.
For death, in particular, makes a mockery of all human achievement:
> What profit will a man have if he gains the whole world but loses his life?
> Matthew 16:26

Sounds like you're the one trying to find peace my man. I'm a pretty chill guy, especially since I took it upon myself to explore other dimensions and religions in ways that modern christianity tries to deter people from. If you found happiness in that religion, then I'm happy for you, but it didn't work for me. So anyways, back to the art...

Here's the Fool. The beginning of the journey. He's leaving the kingdom and not watching where he's going, but that's ok since he's got a couple guides with him, a Set animal and a winged frog. He's juggling eggs and dropped one on the path already, but you can't make an omlette without breaking some eggs. He's walking on the yellow brick road, a symbol for destiny or the Great Work. The bricks are falling way into another dimension, a nod to the psychedelic nature of my own journey. The road combined with the space make a downward pointing arrow since you go into the underworld to do your questing. The solar eclipse at the top is my substitute for the traditional 0, since when I saw the eclipse in 2017 I was on a couple hits of acid and had a religious experience of sorts. During the totality it was like the "in the beginning all was void and dark", and time felt different, and then when the first ray of light broke through it was as if the "let there be light" moment occurred. It seemed plausible that the writer of that passage in Genesis was describing a solar eclipse.
The winged frog is a symbol for passing between realms. So are the mushrooms and strip of acid on the ground if you look closely.
He's wearing red since his sign is Aries and the fiery energy is what fuels his steps. The beetle is a symbol for xepher, or becoming

For me it was all about psychedelics, magick, meditation, sacred geometry and copious amounts of coffee and weed. Maybe it's not for everyone, but that's how I got to a point where I had inspiration to pursue art. I needed something to draw that had a purpose.

Here's the Chariot. The placement of this path on the tree of life takes it across the abyss, and so I thought that Charon taking a spirit to the underworld via the river Styx made sense. It's pulled by the lost souls, one blonde female, one dark haired male to represent the polarities. The astrological sign for this card is Cancer so there's the big claw. This path exists between Binah/Saturn and Geburah/Mars so I have the ram skull for Aries/Mars and Charon himself is a pretty good stand-in for Saturn but also I drew it up in the corner. If you zoom out and look there's a big face hidden in the composition with the big loop up top as a sort of 3rd eye for the face.

>My methodology is I lay down the geometry first, which is a golden or fibonacci rectangle folded on itself four ways. Then I place a circle in both the top big square and the bottom (as above so below) and then determine what pointed star to place in each circle depending on the energy of the card.
