So is the movie any good? I heard the main character is a black guy.
>>
>>42478810
It had a 90% on Rottentomatoes and a 75% user score with most people saying it is good and some saying it is a waste of time dogshit. The black guy is only in it because Hollywood laws. Lol.
>>
>>42478810
Any nice BBC scenes with a classically beautiful white woman?
>>
>>42478826
The black guy is actually a great actor. I would say he's the reason , along with the females protagonist, why the movie works. The acting is correct, not over the top, not "hollywood coded". It is good.
>>42478842
There's a picture of him with his ex couple and she's white.

No. In short, it's a well-crafted shit sandwich. It starts okay with a slow buildup that fleshes out the characters for a bit and then the Backrooms content starts. It doesn't take long for forced le Hollywood action to begin and then shit hits the fan but whatever, right? as long as we get liminal survival. But when a certain character goes in to the Backrooms the viewers will think to to themselves "oh boy everyone's in the Backrooms now, here we go!" and then the movie shits the bed. Someone suddenly acts way out of character (heel-turn tier) and unrealistic things happen making all the buildup a pointless waste of time simply so the studio could shove forced "horror" cringe in. The movie is a well-put-together sandwich with a thin layer of shit in the middle that ruins the whole thing. Literally Youtube vids, even from this same guy, are better Backrooms content.

The movie would still be mediocre even if the main character was white. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but it still wasn't worth going to the theater for.
>>
>>42478810
it turns into generic horseshit
>>
>>42479254
i share this anon's opinion. it starts reasonably well enough, even if slow. it drops the two main character's backstory but it feels redundant and has the whole generic "le mental illness/trauma" theme which was completely unnecessary and out of place. the liminal content is good but feels short given the movie's length. the latter half of the movie drops the ball completely. "the backrooms" wasn't the main star in the backrooms.

I know nobody will believe this but I’m the OP of the /x/ thread (https://archive.4plebs.org/x/thread/22672919/) where some anon replied to my OP image (it was floating around on my hard drive after downloading it from some earlier thread) with the og creepypasta that picked up steam. No, I have absolutely no proof of this. I’m stacking shelves in a supermarket while people are making blockbusters based on an internet phenomenon that happened all because i got bored one night 7 years and deciding to make a spooky picture thread. Call me an overdramatic faggot, but I’m posting this here because I don’t have anyone to tell irl and nobody would believe me anyway, but I need to tell it to someone. Yup. It felt like little noteworthy happened. Certain deaths happened way too fast, the insanity part was goofy, so was the Entity. It would have been much better if those certain deaths either never occurred or if it was later in the film. The table scene needed to be cut too. Better needed Entity in my opinion.

It would have been an amazing movie if the table scene and the see painting/get choked scene before it was removed in favor of survival-horror in liminal space. As anon said,
>the liminal content is good but feels short given the movie's length/"the backrooms" wasn't the main star in the backrooms
When it was just the black guy it was fine but then "I'll get proof" and he pointlessly brings his whole squad in to go exploring down a random hole that just so happens to have a bad thing. That's... not what the movie just said he was going back there to do and now that I think about it, why did he only bring the shrink a map in the first place instead of a recording or any other proof of the most unbelievable find imaginable? And wow, what are the odds that this confusing chain of actions allows for viewers to see some Hollywood horrorslop so their ADHD addled minds don't get bored!

I'm just spitballing here but once all the intended actors were inside they could have just made the exit mysteriously disappear or something if the stakes weren't high enough. If an entity (or multiple) had to exist put them in the background or make them part of the environment subtly observing or stalking the oblivious explorers to maximize the creepiness and uncertainty for the viewers. I assume a different writer (or whatever) changed the direction of the movie for the table scene (and after) to appeal to MoDeRn AuDiEnCeS.

someday you will look back and realize that God shielded you from the kikes who would have found a way to ruin you so they could steal it

Synchronicity. I watched a review of Backrooms and vaguely recognized the black guy. Then YouTube has been pushing the Firefly theme song so I listened to it again. It's good as it ever was. Then the comments on YouTube were saying "we're back." So I googled Firefly news and apparently
1. There's a Firefly animated series in the works
And
2. The Serenity movie was just added to Amazon Prime and is in the top 10 or some shit.
I clicked on an article about Serenity and then bam, it clicked.
The Negro from Serenity is in the Backrooms movie.
Nice tight little circle. That is all. I have no plans to see Backrooms because I don't watch any of the slop they put out anymore. I would've watched the stupid Grogu movie after finding an illegal stream of it, but then Pedro Fuckboy kissed Faggot Colbert on TV and it's my Pedro fatigue and Colbert fatigue, it was just the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Just shut the fuck up and talk about Star Wars you creepy faggot who touches women inappropriately and claims it's Autism or whatever.
So no, I've seen basically every Star Wars content, but I'll just skip Grogu because fuck it.
I'll probably skip the Firefly cartoon too whenever it comes out because I'm sure it'll be grating unfunny woke TDS.
Chuds forever.

The whole point of Backrooms having this scary vibe, is not a "le epick monster right behind the corner ohh noees!" but due to being a sole person, who for some unknown reason finds themselves in a neverending sea of liminal spaces. At certain points, one finds traces of someone or "something" being there too, but at no point does that person sees or hears anything. To add, they don't feel the need to eat, drink or sleep, so dying out of exhaustion is not an option either. That makes it even worse, because not even death can save you from this, seemingly endless, environment. The only way you can get out of there is find a way out, problem being you have no idea how to do so. That is the original idea behind the creepiness of the setting. Including more people, retaded Hollywood tropes and the worst choice imaginable, which is adding some kind of a "monster", just turns it into another C-tier horror flick. Typical slop.
>>
>>42479692
probably bullshit but I believe you.
now we just need to find the guy who wrote the copypasta.
>>
>>42481215
Good points, but adding the monster wasn't a thing that this movie "created". It was added first by all of the other creators who expanded that one image into that liminal world of videos. I've never liked that stupid nonsensical "wiry" monster from the kane pixels videos. The monster in the movie is a much better concept, as the material version of your own evil. Wich has a real logic behind, proven in the online world. Specially obvious in anonymous environments like this site. A person with total freedom, and no rules or accountability for his actions and behavior, usually becomes a sort of tyrannical evil monster, who berates, mocks, hurts and impose his impunity on others. You may say: "that's not me.. that's not everyone", well exactly, but, you know that kind of evil ones exist out there in the infinite boards.
I liked the movie, it does a correct job in every aspect. More than a good enough job for what is worth, wich is just another silly shitpost in 4chan, made into a fucking A list movie. It's absolutely incredible that they managed to come up with this, and land on their feet lmao.
>>
>>42478888
your supposed to care if the main character dies or not lol
>>
>>42479692
Copyright and patent laws are crimes against humanity.
>>
>>42481282
The backrooms never needed monsters to be visceral to begin with. The entire horror aspect of the backrooms is about getting lost in a nonsensical and endless maze where the serene and claustrophobic atmosphere makes you slowly question your own sanity in form of a stalker that can never proven to be real. Nothing is more frightening than the unknown.
Once it takes on a goofy material form and becomes defeatable like in that stupid movie you love so much it actually ceases to be horror entirely.
>>
>>42481405
What you want it to be is much more risky and implausible to be written into a movie. I don't say that your version of the backrooms wouldn't work, or that it would be impossible to do "right". But, what they did with this movie, works in its own sense. What the movie implies is that in your own house, where you live your life, through the years of accumulating infinite memories and time, if you get clipped into your own existing local environment, it is unavoidable to stumble unto your own self, residual spirit, or actions. You may, and you should, eventually stumble into your own violence and anger if you ever experienced it in the place you spend your time living. Imagine seeing yourself doing the things you did all through out your life. That's equally terrifying. It's another approach, and it worked for them.

if it means anything to you anon, i believe you

finally. someone gets it. the source of low-grade terror is being alone in that place, feeling lost. even if it were completely empty, with no monster, you'd feel fear eventually. it's death by boredom, confusion due to the monotony in every direction. past movies made use of this by including a hedge maze, but that was outdoors and not in some alt dimension.

same reason why no sane person would want to go wandering alone in the paris catacombs.
>>
i've felt existential dread since i was a child, all the way through teenage and adulthood years. life itself is a labyrinth that terminates at some unknown point in the future. you either die old or earlier than that. if you die old then there's at least a decade or more of being a frail old person finally ending with you bedridden.

if you get into a rel. with a bad person, that person drags you down with them, slows you down, takes you on side quests that leave you with problems and less resources.

all things considered, some divorced black guy schizing out is thus not entertaining or relatable to me. if you're not born rich or smart enough to make it on your own, you're going to feel this chronic pain. the monotony of daily routines, of work, doing the same shit, dealing with the same people at work or at home. life can very well turn into a nightmare. that's why we seek escape in online forums, drugs, porn, entertainment media, etc.
>>
the Wokerooms is only doing well financially because it's a date night movie boosted by internet meme power. if there was no "social media buzz" behind it, the bare story would fall flat. by now, everyone who wanted to see it has already done so. the drop off will be steep.
>hey let's watch a middle aged black guy lose his mind! instead of being in the alt world by himself, he also drags others there with him.
>oh yeah and whole thing is an allegory about your past demons or whatever, due to divorce and personal failings

meanwhile there are ppl suffering far worse fates all across the world, in every country, from the fent zombies of philadelphia to various third worldies gettin rekt by poverty and random bombings. in comparison, some idiot store owner and his therapist are not really interesting.

at least "Send Help" showed some spoiled rich guy gettin rekt so the socialists can feel satisfied.

>that stupid cosmic death fungus
>the rake
>"Ben Drowned" (The Haunted Majora's Mask)
>Anansi’s Goatman Story (aka: The Goatman)

These all had movies or games based on them, sometimes multiple.
/x/ creates tons of original content, then it gets stolen by le redditors, which gets stolen by TikTokers/YT influencers who pass it normies, which gets media attention so boomers notice and corporations try to market it into commericals, games, and movies.

Basically, yes. Race isn't mentioned even once in the movie, aside from maybe the "End Apartheid" T-shirt one guy wears (no one talks about it). But that could just be reference to the trope of getting separated in the Backrooms.
>>
>>42485365
>it's turned into "le heckin' humanity went too far with technology!!" slop
You're not wrong; however, there's a second side to this. The Backrooms is also presented as a dark manifestation of the psyche, blurring the line between these two interpretations in places.
>>
>>42486422
>"End Apartheid"
It's a cultural thing of those years. Put there to easily profile the camera dude's personality,as the typical L.A .liberal pot junkie guy of the 90s.
And the black guy was in an interracial relationship, portrayed in a framed picture.
>>
>>42485804
>missed the entire appeal of the backrooms
Showing entities does blow the load on the tension built up. This can be forgiven though, if you look at the Backrooms itself as a source of evil, with the entities as merely an extension of it.

I don't think entities need to be nonexistent, but if shown they should be very infrequent. At least there weren't fucking "Smilers" or goofy shit like that.

I had recurring backrooms dreams based on a place I worked at at the time that looked like the real life backrooms (a shitty hotel chain) in the months leading up to that post being made. Except in the dreams there were new corridors and doors and floors and I would spend ages exploring them. They were my favourite dreams.
Same with mallworld. I had mall world dreams for years and thats a thing now too.
Because of some shit medication I was on (venlafaxine) that makes you dream in 4K HDR for hours every night

I think this stuff is in the collective dream world or unconscious and that the backrooms was ready to be manifested by someone

to be fair the insane dreams were the one thing that I miss from being on that medication. legitimately some of the coolest and best shit ive ever experienced in my life has been the dream life that I had during those years and I do miss it but it also made my living life feel like a dream and my dreams feel more real than real life so it messed with me

also same anon again but i forgot to add that i also had recurring poolroom dreams back from the mid 2010's where it was like endless swimming pools and changing rooms that could be explored infinitely and then poolrooms suddenly became a thing with games and stuff being made about it
then the backrooms ones i had in 2017/2018 before the post was made on here
then the mallworld ones all from the same time period and all 3 of these thing are now a phenomena

That medication made me remember the dreamstate much more vividly than we are supposed to and I think I could take back more information or memories than what is intended. a side effect of the medication. I think these places are real, shared collective spaces that we go to in our sleep for some reason and now they are manifesting in culture as people get more attuned to it or something

The film, much like the thing it is named after, is an amalgam of warped ideas and tropes from the horror genre in recent years.

It fucking didn’t tho, this is like a reverse Roy Jay, the backrooms was around 2014-2015, 2016 at the latest. I thought it was so weird when it was posted in 2019 and everyone was acting like it was the first thread that was posted (which was nearly identical) years earlier.

Go read the archives around that time, it’s clear something is fucky about them, the backrooms was way before 2019.

Alright I know this'll sound strange, but I had a weird dream last night. I'd just got done watching The Companion(2025) and was in a bunch of Backroom's threads before going to bed. When I fell asleep I had a very vivid dream I was watching a Backroom's TV show starring Sophie Thatcher. It was almost like I was in a alternate universe where instead of doing a movie they did a TV show, I still remember most details from every episode.

I would be the biggest bitter fuck on the planet if this happened to me. More studios have been scouting randoms on the Internet, Kane got scouted within a month of his original video. If you want a shot, make sure you can at least claim credit so the opportunity comes to you.

You have no media literacy or foundational knowledge of the backrooms. The backrooms are known to make people go insane and
Clark was already known to be mentally ill with a history of impulsive and abusive behavior, then staying down there for weeks cannibalizing the still-life entities,
so the heel-turn didn't "come out of nowhere". It's actually very much in plot and in character. It was well done and
the emotional crescendo at the dinner table tied together the therapists obsession with trying to save her mother by using her patients as proxies
.
>>
I've always pictured the backrooms to be similar to how the stack works in a computer. as a program continues you get artifacts that start to bunch up and clutter up the real working process. they're byproducts of the main program (reality)

The black guy seems more human and relatable than most black protagonists these days, where they're made to seem so somber and stoic that they're barely showing any expression. This actor just seems like a normal dude who is also black.
>>
>>42479675
You're an idiot. Having a black actor in this particular role is far more aesthetically pleasing.

The Backrooms had a massive opening. Directed by 20-year-old creator Kane Parsons (known for the viral YouTube series), the film grossed $81.5 million domestically and $118 million worldwide in its opening weekend. This historic debut shattered A24's previous studio record and stands as the highest opening ever for an original horror movie.
>>
>>42501944
He's just a good actor. There are certain subtle details in the way he interacts during dialogue, like if he's taking a big breathe-in, along with a gesture that pulls in the other interlocutor into his dialogue in that little silent gesture, so it also captures the attention of the viewer of course. He can achieve a very relatable effect most of the time. He also uses misdirection, like he makes an emotional gesture of surprise or anger, but he doesn't linger on that but uses that initial strong emotion to do something totally different and pragmatic to the story. That makes everything he does very dynamic to the viewer. Like in the "2012" movie, when he trashes the luxury cabin and rushes out to the bridge of the ship, leading you to think that he's going there to bitch about the luxury cabin but he's going there (in anger), but to do something totally different as recalculating the countdown simulation for the incoming super tsunami. And while he does that, he also bitches about the luxury cabin again, so you don't hate him for losing time on trivial shit. He has a method to do that all the time, even with simple dialogue.
But that's not just "only" the actor's skill at work there, there's a good efficient script at play to let him do that. Like in the movie "Poltergeist", wich is a very similar movie, the Father in Polstergeist becomes just as relatable as this guy in Backrooms, because both are thrown into a succession of situations that require them to be just logical, functional and pragmatic. You kinda feel like doing what they do in that situation, or at least you don't feel like they are stupid, or wrong. Like in most movies nowadays that characters are forcibly written to be conveniently stupid. This guy just want to escape a shitty reality that can't be fixed, and just want to be left alone. That's not stupid, but pretty relatable.
>>
>>42501944
it helped that his character was an actual flawed guy and not a mary sue whose "flaw" is being a victim
>>
>>42498489
Honestly SCP lore is so huge and fucking conveluted that the backrooms could just be a SCP in the SCP universe and then they'd do a crossover movie.
>>
New comer and “zoomer” from Tiktok. Alot of racist commenting but have vary valid points, i agree on the fact that sum of the dialogue/narrative falls through but thats only cause Kane is still young. I honestly find it aspiring that he’s made such an amazing movie for his age and only look forward to his career. I doubt he’d gotten all of this done without A24 help and the departments that worked on this project, I doubt as well that any of you anon’s would’ve been able to direct a movie like this in my opinion. And also none of the zoomers are claiming anything that its our generation subculture of backrooms just that you so happen that the online sphere rise us up till here.

Why do you want a repetition of what already exist in youtube? >>
Something similar happened to me in college back in 2004, I was in a creative writing class, and we had to do something quick within the span of 20 minutes.
I wrote a silly romance story about two cowboys that were gay for each other, but they have to act manly and drive trucks and act macho while other coworkers and family members are around.

Imagine how I felt when *Brokeback Mountain* came out... I know my teacher probably emailed one of his Hollywood friends and pitched my idea, but I have no proof.

I still remember the day I was reading that thread like it was the most normal thing in the world
Sometimes I wish we could go back to that time
Liminal spaces and the horror of noon threads made it seem like there is some hidden truth about this world, like you could almost roll back the curtain
Like we were quickly approaching the true nature of this existence because all the images had a very existential quality to them, they were framed in a way you were able to take ordinary settings and objects and now "take off the mask" and see how alien and otherworldly they really are, almost impersonal
There was something deep underwater you could feel
Interestingly enough right when the discussion was solidfying on /x/ the pandemic started in China and everything was quickly forgotten and buried

This is the type of shit that makes me unironically believe everyone on /x/ is on a watchlist, yes even the alien lyran vampire succubus larpers
We get told by everyone our whole lives nothing we do matters, and then one of us will yawn or lift their pinky finger the wrong way, and the whole mindless mass of NPCs will turn around at the same time
There are only like 100-200 regulars and semi regulars on this board max and that's really pushing it. On top of that some have been posting for years so it's not like there's much variation in the population

My dad worked in a few hospitals and in one I stepped thru, I was gone for 3 hours, they called security, but for me it was 5-15 minutes, but I could tell I was in a wrong place, I ran thru the hallways and yes I get I had to keep moving, and I got out, it wasn’t that long, but felt long cia I was scared, but when my dad found me and said I was missing for 3 hours I knew that was way too fucking long, the place tries to tell you a story. A friend of mine also activated this on graduation day, after everyone left the gymnasium, we all saw and walked thru and expirenced this in a hallway out the back of the gym, there was a pic a while back that had the same energy, the exact same, the water fountain, the double doors out to the trees, the sweet trees, the summer, we would go outside and we would smoke and drink, and the trees and the wood decks and the rocks and the houses and the parents and the sea.

>Best Case: NPCs are philosophical zombies
>Worst Case: the above as the sex organs of non-corporeal intelligences (demons)

BACKROOMS are the objectified NPC's non-presence translated into Brutalist psychologically alienating space. The NPC isn't a person, they're an empty vessel pantomiming presence without having meaningful subjectivity/sovereign thought(s); their Desires are scripted, and fundamentally insatiable, the perfect Consumer drone-- that's the endless empty retail space, unfillable, unknowable, unuseable. That corporate design anti-aesthetic uniformity - like the non-regional Newsanchor accent in all languages - is divorced from natural, historical and cultural trends organically rising and falling in a continuity of a people and a pace. "Smarter not harder." said the Latter Day Khmer Rouge Fabian, twirling his mustache. The Backrooms are the only catchall for what's being done to us.

The movie's already obtained THEY LIVE status, people just haven't sussed out why or how, otherwise They would be trying to mute its reception.

Turkish. The Muslim World never ended slavery, they just lost access to coastal European markets after their defeat at Malta, and at the latest Barbary Pirates & Jefferson sending the US Marines. The character is functionally castrated by his failed marriage and professional dead end, surrounded by the tokens of a peaceful family life which he can sell but not have, much less buy for himself-- HE IS HIS OWN SLAVER, and it's worse being his own employee as Furniture Store sole proprietor, auto-wagecucked himself. It's an avatar of his lower beast nature, and compulsion in general. If you can't beat'm, join'm. That's the comfort of the Abyss and the Leviathan-Pirate waiting to tempt you there.
