>May 12 2019: unsettling pictures thread with the image
>May 13 2019: the pasta is first posted in reply to the pic. likely a /tg/ anon also known as Lone Observer/Black August/August Domain
>May 15 2019: a single bump limit reply thread is made with a screencap of the image and the pasta.
keep in mind that there were only 155 unique ips posting in that thread
>17 May 2019: the following has already occurred
>>creation of TWO backrooms subreddits
>>posts on twitter
>>posts on tumblr
>>threads all over 4chan
>late May 2019: normieslop youtube channels already churning out backrooms content
is 'the backrooms' (in the sense of the meme/narrative/metatextual thing) a fucking egregore? the immediate and intense popularity is insane considering it spawns from a 155 poster thread.
think back, do you even remember when/how/why the backrooms even became popular?

Nah its just that its set up allows a ton of flexibility.
There could be anything inside there, leading to a whole range of possible stuff. This was a big fuel for the whole luminal space horror genre. Its just such a simple template with a huge range of possibilities that it spawned a ton of other variations and nonsense.

Most people don't even know it's from 4chan, it's like SCP except way less creative. It gains traction, someone makes a youtube series, then a bunch of crappy Steam games are made, then that youtuber makes a movie.
>>
Also, anons always talk about how zoomers and redditors 'ruined' the backrooms with reference to levels, enitites, etc, but redditors and even anons in May 2019 are already posting about these things. It's almost like there's some weird mandela effect/false memories which people have about the meme of the backrooms.

I feel that backrooms represent being stuck in 3 dimensional saturn based geometric reality. cut off from the true source and real light. harsh artificial reality, stuck wandering looking for an exit, for salvation and real freedom. I think thats why people resonate with it so much. I have visions given to me that are very similar to backrooms concept.

More likely a forced thing, would be like if picrel blew up 2-3 days after I posted it.
I learned about in like back in 2022 or 2023, never heard of it in 2019 at all.

>channers vainly trying to take credit for shit they didn’t think of, or think to do first
with culture the way it is, the pasta was inevitable and i shouldn’t be surprised that more movies don’t come from here, but honestly i am - anyone here can shitpost a half-assed creepypasta at any given time, but the backrooms film is proof that no one here has the initiative it takes to write and direct a feature length movie about anything at all. still haven’t heard if the movie is even good or not, just popular. i bet the kid who directed it picked it up from reddit and doesn’t even know it came from 4chan. this is the last to breed popularity, so if you’re going to be surprised by something, let it be that backrooms didn’t get the “pepe treatment”.
anyway, i’m much more interested in where the OP image came from, anyone have the original sauce?

LARPing as an derogatory term is now popular off of 4chan, lol!!! It feels weird. I know 4chan has influenced the internet prior(SCP), but it feels different the last year or so.
>>42487366
I do remember feeling surprised it was a few years old by the time I learned of it.

it was a viral marketing campaign for one of the youtube channels dedicated to the backrooms.
make it look grassroots but it was all paid advertising.
they hired the same people who worked on the viral marketing for jj abrams cloverfield movie in 2008.
it was pretty genius.

Yet none a single one of my memes have even gotten posted offside by anyone other than me, sigh...
It was mid leaning towards good. It felt like nothing happened ig. Certain deaths happened too soon, the table scene was tarded and regarded and goofy, do was the Entity. I think if the table scene was cut entirely, the Entity done better, and the deaths of the explorers either done later in the film, or not at all, it would be much better. And honestly, the shrink side plot is unnecessary and could have been down without too.

One thing you may have failed to take into account, there might have only been 155 unique posters, but how many people saw it? I was in that thread and didn't engage, there could have been thousands of us to see that thread which gives it a much wider span.

I am just saying realistically my memes have more story/memific value than the post that got Backrooms popular, supposedly, even if they are stupid/forced.
Like a sub and stuff under 2 days for a rando oneoff /x/ post, lol!!!

It was already discussed in an earlier thread. Most anons have a comfy feeling about that environment. Cozy, warm, secure, homey. Many even felt an inclination to safe and comfy masturbation in that place.
