Been trying to relearn blading after like 20 years away from it. I was never good at half pipes so I've been practicing on those. I've relearned some grinds but still a long way from my favorite grinds. I have 360's back but I'm not sure how long until I can 540 again. Compared to other guys my age I'm relearning really slow. I've done other sports in the past 20 years so I thought coming back would be easy but I'm pretty much starting from scratch.

I did something goofy...and it kinda works; the problem I'm having are the rails loosening from the boot. Right now I've got some Lowe's machine screws (phillips head) and two nuts on the ends of them. The old bolts and the ones included with the rail aren't long enough. What would be the best way to tighten everything up?

I wanted to go to the skatepark and practice more on the half pipe today. I went to the one in my neighborhood but it was full of Mexican families watching their kids ride their bikes around and having a picnic right in the middle of the skatepark. I went to a school and messed around with some grinds instead. I feel them coming back. Feels good.

I had the skatepark to myself for an hour. Practiced in the half pipe. It's taller than the half pipe I usually practice in. Then I hit the streets and found a really low round rail I used to skate like 25 years ago when I was a kid. Starting to get the feel of soul grinds again. I tried a few grinds on a ledge a bit taller than my knee that was one of my go too ledges as a kid but it's so slick and feels so sketchy now. I've gotten soft.
>>
>>201795
honestly my favorite height of ledge is just above knee height, I feel a lot more comfortable jumping slightly up onto something, as opposed to jumping "down" to something below my standing height, if that makes sense.

Kinda but not really. I'm the same with some grinds.

after a year and a half, I finally got around to actually trying my rollerblades out
didn't go very far before I got drenched and gassed thanks to overdressing, but I didn't eat shit so that was cool
was a lot more anxiety-inducing than riding a skateboard though
I enjoyed those few minutes but I have a feeling it's gonna take a while to actually feel comfortable just riding around
>>
>>202291
congrats, retardbro.
if you're really anxious about falling just wear full pads until you're able to ride around comfortably. I always wear a wristguard on my right wrist after absolutely fucking it up on more than one occasion and needing weeks of recovery time.
>>
>>202314
>just wear full pads until you're able to ride around comfortably
cheers, I'm seriously considering it
it actually kinda stung cuz it hit me yesterday and made me feel like a boomer
>right after getting out of my apartment
>cut through parking lot next door
>forgot it was sloped
>immediately go faster than I was prepared for
>managed to weave rocks and a grate
>briefly one-footed it and thought I was gonna slam
>barely coasted out and immediately thought about buying a helmet
>>
I bought a pair of kaltek freestyle 2 frames because I was drunk and thought they looked cool. Now I realize I don't need them since my antirocker wheels came in.
Should I exchange them for wheels or keep them for a rainy day?
>>
>>
>>
I started skating my old high school's mostly unused tennis court to get some cardio in when I can't get to the rink. It feels good just being able to dick around and practice while blasting my own music without worrying about anyone else.

>first batch of frames are defective
>sells them at full price anyways
>play the defect off as a feature
>that feature isn't even consistent frame to frame
>you can have a pair of frames where one is rockered and the other isn't
>all sales final
>call yourself the new everything company
>release a cheap skate with a 30 year old boot mold
>try and make a separation between "core" skaters and beginners
>sell their beginner skates for as much as the "core" skates
The owner definitely tries to inject some marketing magic into his products.

coming from skate and snowboarding, how do I get out of the feeling of favoring my left foot forward (standard stance on a board) when turning or braking? trying to t-stop with my left foot trailing, or parallel turn to the right feels so unnatural compared to the opposite
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>203615
Two things: Purposeful practice (e.g. drill left-foot t-stops like 20 times as the first thing you do when you put skates on), and just time spent on skates.
If you don't drill, you'll never learn how to do it; and without time on skates, you'll never learn to do it without thinking.

>Can someone explain to me why anyone would choose 60mm for "aggressive" ?
how do you mean? do you think that's too big or too small?
desu 60mm has become almost the standard size for aggressive, even though it's the maximum you can fit in a lot of frames (aside from high-low frames like oysi)
>>
>>207854
well that's one thing yeah, it leaves more space for the h-block.
but aggressive is all about short, controlled bursts of speed rather than going fast over long distances. smaller wheels = higher acceleration and more stability when landing since you're closer to the ground.

has anyone been to the Berlin skating marathon? care to share your experience if you did?
there's a few days left to sign up and I'll probably go so curious what to expect, never skated for that long before in one run and never been to a marathon of any kind before
I've done ~60 minute runs in which I averaged something like 30km/h and it was through the city with ups and downs and stops and wind and shit, and at the marathon you get to draft behind others and skate on nice proper streets so I assume it'll be easier

>>208841
I guess if most people here are US based it'd be quite the trip for a marathon; it's a few thousand people going in total
I saw parts of a full recording of the whole thing and it looks like drafting behind others and overall skating on good asphalt makes a difference, I can about an hour and a half with a few stoplights, a couple of bigger stupid bridge where it's always fucking windy, but otherwise pretty good asphalt, going 20km/h on average, so that would just make the cut-off time of 2 hours for the whole ~42km
well some more time to train, still have to plan the whole thing but I hope I'll make it

What's staring at the ledge gonna do? Should be balance-muscle-memory; trust that you'll ride it out after a point and make sure the next step after is safe (eg not jumping on glass or a comically placed banana peel) feels more important imo.
>>
>>
>>213828
yep, never even encountered another blader at any of the skate parks in my city.
closest I came was one time I was at a skate spot when a girl on her lunch break approached me and excitedly started telling me how she used to skate until she messed up her knee, how sad she was selling her Aeons, showing me her insta videos.
I've been trying to convince her to ignore her physiotherapist's advice not to skate, even considered buying her a cheap pair of Sways or something.
Down bad, and I'm not even trying to bang her.
>>
>>213832
I've sold stuff locally to other bladers but nobody my age seems to want to skate with anyone outside of their established group. I met a quad skater once at a skatepark but he doesn't live nearby so I never bothered calling him back. I saw one guy looking to be my age shredding at a park I was visiting. I was too intimidated to talk to him 'cause he was so much better than me.

>Overall the 64mm are good for a absolute beginner. Think I'll move back up to 68-70mm
And here I thought 80's are the basic beginner size, and even those still feel pretty small considering it's easy to trip on tiny rocks and stuff.

Starting to feel pretty comfortable on skates.
Can't balance on one leg for shit, so no T-braking, but slaloms seem to work for hills.
That parking lot is starting to bore me a bit, but I still could use it to learn soul sliding.

Haven't been using my EE3 Shadows since I bought them since USD Sways feel a lot better pumping transitions at the skatepark. Had a session on my grindbox today. Ugly ass looking mismatched skates but the defective TNEC frames were alright after I pregrooved them with a Dremel. Also dreme'd the TNEC branding since the QC on these things are garbage. The Dead wheels are the best part of the skate though.
>>
started inline last summer. i got ahead of myself and got two pairs. 100mm tri skates and a rockered 5 wheel 80mm. I'm still nervous as hell about attempting crossovers and my braking is still too awful to do anything not in empty suburban streets or parking lots.
the rockered skates are a dream at turning but have been squirrely when I first started going downhill. Not sure if I got better or the wheels worn down flatter. I had hopes to do wizard moves but honestly if I can just do crossovers, transitions and a reliable quick stop on a line I'll be happy.
I was planning on just riding bike, but my daughter took to roller skates easier than riding a bike.

trying to learn how to skate on 3x100 or 5x80 rockered is crazy work. 3x100 ride height is way too high for someone starting off, and i assume you are on 165 mount which is even higher than ufs or trinity. the rockered setup makes turning feel easier but the ride is overall much less stable especially for a beginner and the wheelbase is too long and clunky for trying to learn something like a crossover. what skates are you using?
i would highly recommend trying a 4 wheel flat setup, either 80,84, or 90mm depending on your foot size. you will instantly feel more stable than either of your current setups because youre lower and all 4 wheels are touching the ground. factory rockered setups are overrated imo anyways, your wheels will naturally break in and create a rocker that feels much better than your stock frame rocker

Yup. Smaller wheels. Big wheels are for small penis legs.
>>
>>
>>219510
theyre both trinity. I kind of opted for two extremes in my setups. If i splurge again for a frame when it warms up I'll retire the 3x100 for a 4x90. I have large feet(12.5US, 47EU) and the wheel base on the 100s is 250mm.
I should have just done the thing everyone tells you to do and start with a normal sized frame. oh well.
>>
>>
>>220044
>>220045
powerslide makes a 4x90 trinity frame called the combat rocker. it has a 290mm wheelbase which is way better for a size 12 and you can ride it flat or rockered. you could also try a 4x80 with a longer wheelbase, i think ground control makes a 270mm one, same base as a normal 4x90 setup
honestly i would highly recommend the 90mm combat rocker, its probably the best option for you. you can switch back to banana rocker on the same frame if you dont like riding flat, and not many frames come in that wheelbase. the closer the wheelbase is to your foot size the better. you can even use smaller wheels for a lower ride height but its not necessary
man i probably sound like a shill. i have a sister whos young enough to be my daughter and shes also taken a liking to inline skating, teaching is fun. not enough kids on skates these days

I bought my first pair of recreational blades, feeling really excited. Can't wait for the good weather to come already and learn something I've always wanted to try out.
Or at least that was until I gave them a short test today at home and I suddenly got extremely terrified of the idea of breaking my teeth on the pavement the day I have a really bad fall. Has anyone else dealt with this fear?
Also, I have a bit of flat foot on my right one and my sole in that foot got fatigued in a matter of seconds. Any recommendations for strengthening exercises?
Maybe I should go back to do heel raises in the mornings...
>>
>>225897
The first month or so is the hardest. The key to rollerblading is eviscerating your fear.
Wear full gear, no one is going to make fun of you for wearing a helmet and pads. I run boxing wrist wraps as wrist guards. Learn how to fall without panicking because you WILL fall, even people who have been skating for years fall and learning how to fall without breaking something is paramount.
Practice on the grass and get a feel for the wheel edges, practice crossing your feet, practice jumping, then move onto flat ground and take baby steps.
When I first bought my skates, I was too scared to do anything and I ended up putting it off for years, then I decided fuck it I want to learn. The more you push yourself, the better you'll get

I found my late 90s K2 Style Points Bob in the attic. Is it safe to use them again or is the plastic all fucked up due to being 25 years old or so? They look like they're in great shape, I only have to find new wheels and bearings.
Surprisingly, 57mm wheels look pretty hard to find, or at crazy prices.

I live in an old fishing town and the only place I can skate properly is the sea promenade (flat walk for bikes all the way and plenty of open flat spaces along the way).
Yeah, I know, the sand and the salt is going to be awful for the bearings, but still... do I really have to disassemble and clean them after every single session?

2nd week of learning to skate and already got my first ankle sprain... at least it's a mild one.
I did some considerable amount of "falling practice", but I don't know how to avoid/prepare for having one of my legs just randomly roll under my body when I do fall; happened 3 times and the third twisted my entire leg badly.

is it wise for a person in his early 50s to start roller blading?
I used to skate a lot, had few falls, nothing major broken but now even the thought of it makes me worry, not to mention a major titanium hip replacement.
is the shit even worth it? what am I looking at besides fucked up knees and joints?
>>
>>
>>239026
I am a 30 y/o former distance runner with blown out feet and I think that casual urban blading (no tricks, just cruising, hopping curbs, t-stops and slides) is pretty low impact
Pushing long distances puts a little stress on your knees but not necessarily worse than running on pavement, and it's way easier on your feet
If you're in your 50s and already have experience blading I don't think it would be an issue to do it for cardio, but aggressive/freestyle skating is probably not worth it because if you are actually trying, you WILL fall and hurt yourself eventually

shit, I never come here and didn't think there would be a roller blade thread. It's a year old so I guess I won't get answered for a month but here it is.
It got some Rollerblade GLX's from goodwill and I replaced the wheels with some from amazon (AOWESM Inline Skate Wheels ABEC-9 and same size)
I really hate using them, I feel like they're really hard and even sound hard compared to the stock blue wheels I got with them. The original wheels feel way more sticky and bouncy compared to these new ones. I learned that I had to "brake in" the wheels but I skated for a few hours and did a lot of carving and dragging to rough them up but they still feel like shit. I want to go to a skate park but I feel like I want to revert to the beat up old wheels. Is that stupid?
Also the lowest (toe) strap broke a few days ago - I circled it. They still feel tight enough to use but is this something I can get repaired or is it not worth it. Or is it super dangerous and something I shouldn't use?
>>
>>
>>244112
Any wheels made in China (anything off Amazon) are going to feel very hard and won't wear in very evenly. Endless, Cymatics, Hydrogen, and MPC wheels are all made in the USA, and are going to feel more like what you're after. FR makes their wheels in Thailand, and they're also quite good, especially in the softer durometers 80a-82a.

it's $100 fpr ten wheels, the listing is just written in a weird way. by 5x80 for example, it's still a ten pack of wheels for that price, i think they're just trying to clarify the type of frame they'll be used for. All their wheels aside from thw big ones (100mm and up) are around $40-48 for 4, $80-90 for 8, so the $100 fpr ten makes a lot more sense. the listing even clarifies that it's ten wheels in the description. endless 100% has the best value for USA poured wheels.

Had my first real session last evening. It was way harder than when I was a kid. I should have worked on stops before speed. Had a couple big drops, feel like I caught an ass whooping. anon, those boots are following closely behind that broken strap. thats a 20+ year old brittle plastic shell thats one good flex away from snapping in half mid stride. do yourself a favor and get something from the past decade at least. check whats on sale or go on blade trade outpost on facebook if youre on a tight budget, im sure someone can hook you up with some decent boots for cheap. if you need brand/model recs, rollerblade, powerslide, fr, seba, even them make great skates for rec skating. just avoid softboots (soft around the lacing and top of foot, usually made of some fabric, rollerblade zetrablade for example), look for a solid, all plastic boot (hardboot, fr1 for example)

I usually tried to avoid skating under 10C, 5 is kinda pushing it
Just long jeans jnsteatof shorts, will try some thermo leggings and shorts maybe, and I wear a thicker winter biking jacket with the pockets at the back (for water etc) and another layer under like a t-shirt or so. I mainly do urban speed runs with little to no tricks
From October or so onward I basically only use the wet setup with MPC storm surge wheels which are basically magic, even on wet roads it grips like it was dry
Wet leaves will still get you no matter what and are the real problem
I don't skate so much at night aka after 16:00 (that's 4pm for freedom land) this time of the year but otherwise I wear a helmet with a cheap headlight tiewrapped to it, more so others can see me properly, and I have another red one in a semi-transparent back pocket, there's lots of options in that regard
You can also swap one of your wheels with one of those LED wheels on each foot, check that they're not overly slow due to the friction that makes the LED work
