I've never had a martial arts, parkour, snowboarding, or skateboarding injury as bad as some of the horseback riding injuries I've seen in my family.

It does actually take a pretty high degree of athleticism as well (if you're actually trying to be good at it). And you have to control all of your limbs independently based on steering.

It's a full body plank that requires extensive knowledge of the horse to maintain speed and balance. We learned from training Mustang war horses for WW1 that you can easily kill a horse from over use.
