It is because modern architecture was specifically designed to depress you. Skaters found a way to enjoy this modern environment or cold hard angles and concrete environments, which went against its core reason to exist. They had to be stopped. But it's bigger than skaters. Ask yourself why we need concrete plazas and kedges everywhere, why we cannot have grass and bushes and flowers. What effect that type of environment would have on society vs the cold brutalist reality we have today.

Ledges were not made for sitting, the council spent lots of money to build you guys public benches and seats, specifically so you sitters could so sit somewhere and not disrupt other people in public. I know sitting on a ledge is 'cool' and you sitters like to think of yourselves as 'rebels' with your active wear outfits and headbands, but please think about everyone else out in public. You're getting in the way of people who may want to skate those ledges, and thats not right.

I was just a poser that skated for travel, but we would skate for hours and be all tired and see some guy guy walking or something and just yell "hey fuck you!" and people would typically get mad and maybe chase and that would give us the energy we needed to continue. Your friends don't want to leave somewhere? Throw a bottle or some shit at a moving truck driving by and force everybody to run. It was all stupid as fuck and made nobody better, but it kept us out of real trouble for the most part. It's the retards that fell on property like this skating and sued that messed it up for everybody btw.
