I got into college because my creative writing was top tier. Unfortunately 80% of my assignments are formal writing. On top of that, I'm studying something that doesn't have scholarly papers worth shit. There's nothing to draw from.
I understand the rules of an essay. I just don't have anything to fucking say. I have no argument to defend. My mind is quiet. Does anyone understand what I'm going through and know how to remedy it? I'm so close to going back to engineering but that shit was boring as hell.
If you call me stupid I will only reply "kys faggot"

Try writing five sentences about a dog or whatever every day. That's one paragraph from just an idea. If you learn this skill you can inflate papers as much as you want. Just remember:
>Title
>Introduction: Open/Thesis/Arguments
>Body: Each Argument
>Close: Summary of arguments and conclusion

I was in the same basket as you called a prodigy for writing top tier creative essays, but as soon as formal writing came into picture I tanked.
Unfortunately I cannot help you with this since I decided to switch uni to IT based shit and never got around that one, but an extremely talented woman that has a hairdresser saloon once told me while she was teaching her apprentices and it kinda stuck with me so I'll share it here:
Creativity without boundaries and frame is worth jack shit.
Learn the boundaries. Learn the frame.
And within those do your craziest insanity you can think of.
That is true creativity.
So for now, just start writting whatever goes to mind, even if it doesnt even have slightest connection to what you are writting for.

you imply your problem is with formal writing in general, but then you say "i understand the rules, i just have nothing to say", which seems to imply the problem is this specific assignment/topic
are you able to write formal essays or not? does it depend on the topic?

Professor writing here.
You misunderstand the concept of "argument" as it is used in academia. It does NOT mean dispute or debate. It means "Thing I know that I want to communicate to you."
It MIGHT be an opinion or judgment, but it is more likely to be a piece of information or the analysis of information. Even in casual conversation, when you tell someone something you are very often actually saying "Here are the facts and here is what they add up to" or "...and here is how to understand them"
It's that second part of the statement - presenting the facts in a way that makes their overall sense clear - that is the "argument." What you are being tested on is not the raw data but your ability to make sense out of the raw data and your ability to present it so that your interpretation makes sense to your reader.
Let's take history as a neutral sort of subject. It is not your job to just present data ("Here is everything that happened before World War I") but to give it shape ("Among all the things that happened before WW1, these are the significant ones, and here's why")
