I had that once and of all the LdHs I've had (cubillo, tondonia blanco, gravonia blanco, tondonia rosado, bosconia) I found it the most disappointing, could have been the year. Just seemed thin and nothing but acid. Still haven't had the gravonia or the red tondonia. I gather the red tondonia gran reserva is the "real" LdH.

The Reserva Tondonia is considered the benchmark for the style and price, 50-60 bucks or so
but they really demand some age to start showing fruit, otherwise they're super tight and acidic. 2010 shouldn't be too hard to find and is drinking incredibly right now. They're also often the same price as current vintage (if the shop doesn't just hike prices whenever they want) due to inflation.

>Dom Carlines Cotes du Jura Poulsard '23
Reminded me of a burgundy pinot. Which yeah thin skinned grape in a colder climate not terribly surprising. Acidity, a good amount of mushroom taste, bright fruit, very light body yet still having tannic grip.
>Michel Tissot Cotes du Jura Savagnin '23
This I found to be the most "generic". Still a good wine just not an overly unique specimen imo. Tasted like a bit of vanilla and maybe even a bit of ammonia? Idk mostly just sour as all hell

Oh yeah and the ice wine was breddy gud but I'd prefer Royal Tokaji's Late Harvest at like half the price
Sipping an Argyle Willamette Pinot cause you fuckers just meme'd me into it and it's meh. Only a $20ish bottle but even still there's a million other bottles I could get for $20 that I'd prefer
On another note I tried an orange wine made from riesling which was actually breddy good (union sacre out of CA)
Also like 3 months ago I had a ramato (skin contact pinot gris) out of abruzzo and it stood out as one of the more interesting wines I've had

01/24/26(Sat)20:49:10 No.21850165 So I went and bought J. Lassalle Preference and I think I understand the champagne hype. A lot of apple, some bread, hint of floral, bit of minerality. Acidity was mouth watering but not bracing (I’ve had a lot of lemon juice whites lately). Mouthfeel was almost creamy due to the carbonation. I poured it back and forth from a flute to a regular glass and I think it tasted better from the flute. I don’t think it was confirmation bias placebo because I was expecting to enjoy the regular glass more; I think it is because the flute concentrated the aroma more. Also I expected to enjoy it more at warmer temperatures (since I lean warmer for most whites) but at 55 or so it became way too round, 48 was much nicer. So I kneel to the flute, I kneel to the recommended serving temperature. I don’t think I’m going to become a champagne-head. It was good, and I’m sure if I dropped more money it could be better, but at those prices I’m sticking with burgundy

4chan/cloudflare does lossless compression on images if possible, so the checksum becomes different on poorly compressed PNGs
Download both of these and notice how the file sizes are different:
https://i.4cdn.org/ck/1768794888388328.png" target="_blank">https://i.4cdn.org/ck/1768794888388328.png
https://i.4cdn.org/ck/1768794888388328.png?nigger=nigger" target="_blank">https://i.4cdn.org/ck/1768794888388328.png?nigger=nigger
The query string inhibits the lossless compression.
This is not the case for picrel because it's already maximally compressed with oxipng, so the file size and (therefore) checksum remains the same due to no room for improvement

Spatlese means it was picked later in the growing season, indicating a higher degree of ripeness. Trocken means it's supposed to be dry but iirc it can be up to 8g/L residual sugar and a lot of Germans like to push the upper end of that number so there ends up being a touch of sweetness, hopefully this is pretty damn dry, as Trocken in Pfalz is ~typically~ more dry than your average Trocken label from say Mosel. For better or worse the German wine classification system is ongoing some changes as the previous system is built on degrees of ripeness and that's practically a non-issue for most established German winemaking regions today with climate change.

That would be for me to resell it. So apparently it's not very common butnit does exist. And they call it "library stock." And apparently more commonly refer to it as chasing rather than hunting but whichever. But this is definitely it because they talk about what I did. Particularly and aggressively targeting mom and pop stores that inadvertently improved their wine bottles through circumstantial aging. But it's not just mom and pop stores. It works all over. I just hit the jackpot at Spec's and thats when it dawned on me. And that in a big city like this I could be sitting on a goldmine.

you have to be careful with bottles aged on a shelf, especially in retail locations. They're often exposed to light, standing upright for too long where the wine isn't kept in contact with the cork, no temp or humidity control. library releases are when a winery rereleases an old vintage by putting them in a new bottle with a new label and new cork.

It was my first bottle of chianti in years, I was trying to rizz up this female young enough to be my daughter, and she expressed a disdain for white wines and a preference for chianti, which I assume is an opinion she picked up from a male (perhaps her actual father) because females are usually comfortable being perceived as liking white wines on their own, but males often have a great deal of gender anxiety over the color of the wine in their glass. It's a funny thing.
Anyway it made me realize I hadn't had chianti in forever and I wondered why. It's really a fine casual drinking wine, user friendly, just doesn't have any cachet for some reason. Might try a few more to get to know it again.

Are you sure? Were you looking for it? Lot of bottles for sale. Might be easy to miss. Where do you live? They even have it at midrange grocery stores out west. Here in the east it's in most neighborhood wine shops.
I haven't had it in quite a long time because of reasons, but you know how there are certain drinks you associate with certain people. So I notice it whether I like it or not, and I can assure you, it's inescapable. At least in the united states.

Yeah I'm sure. No I haven't been looking for it. I live in Melbourne.
The reason why I think it's boomer is that I only ever see boomers talk about Chianti Riserva wines online. Younger people tend to prefer fresher examples of Chianti from what I've seen.

Yeah after 2 glasses of this stuff I see why it's not popular. It's not bad it's just, about what you'd expect of a grape made by crossbreading gewurztraminer with an obscure experimental grape known mainly for its ability to survive in extreme climates

Maybe there aren't enough italians in melbourne, what can I say. I've never heard anyone discuss chianti online at all, but I don't really do much wine internetting other than occasional 5 minute skims of /r/wine/ and a couple of youtubers, but I see it everywhere

Went to Tenuta delle Terre Nere last year and was really impressed by their wines. Wasn't terribly impressed that I had to pay to taste as an industry person but I guess I went at a bad time.
Never tried Vasse Felix but I've been wanting to try more Margaret River wines.

We actually have a lot of Italian immigration here. I would say that we have a higher proportion of Italians than most of the major cities in the US.
I think Chianti in general is fairly unfashionable, which is why you probably don't see it much online. On top of that I think Chianti Riservas are even more unpopular than regular Chianti.

It's definitely unfashionable among the younger crowds, assuming they know it exists in the first place, but it was popular enough among previous generations that it got a mention in a well known movie. Furthermore, older people generally buy more alcohol than younger people. So "zoomers don't think it's cool" doesn't seem plausible as an explanation for why you never see it there, and I see it everywhere here. Maybe it's a distributor thing. Smaller country so availability is determined by a handful of influential people.

02/03/26(Tue)17:18:36 No.21865893 Got my WSET 3 exams on monday and feel pretty good about it apart from wine pairings with food.
Like I am very confident I'll do very well on the other parts but holy fuck my lack of food knowledge might actually fuck me and set me back 5k.
Really demoralised rn and don't even know how I'll be able to actually learn pairings for dishes I've never even heard of.
Any advice?

In general we have a more developed wine market than the US actually.
The interesting thing about the US is that even at shops that stock good wine you'll see boomershite like Caymus because there seems to be an expectation that boomer retards are catered to.
In Australia on the other hand there are plenty of wine shops that stock 100% independent producers and don't have to pander. As an extension of this they also don't have to stock very unfashionable wines like Chianti Riservas.

The wine paring with food is a very small aspect of the syllabus, so don't worry about it too much. You'll likely only get MCQs on it and they're not going to ask you for pairings for specific dishes. They only ask you questions like 'what does high acidity in wine increase perceptions of in food?'.
Read the part of the WSET3 specification that specifies what study areas are asked about in each question. There's a mark breakdown too so you can see what you should be focused on to win the most marks.
If this is the only thing you're stressing over you'll be fine.

It's either a totally different world in Australia (including the described state of aussie wine which is like the exact inverse of how it looks from the outside), or, Australia is how it seems and anon just lives in a "wine guy" bubble and has a warped idea of the wine market in general. I suspect the latter given the description of shops that are blissfully free of "boomer wines". That would suggest "boomer wines" are in fact somewhat popular even in Australia he just avoids those kinds of places like the plague and can thus pretend they don't exist.
