Patasium nitrate
Also called pink salts.
These are used in ground cured meats, some whole meats don't need it.
It's very low level and not dangerous to humans. It's California BS.

If you think that all or even the majority of beef that is eaten in the world is grass-fed, you are probably clinically retarded. Most it is fed with farmed corn and farmed soy. Extreme amounts of it. Pic related. For pork the ratio of free ranging to farm feed is even worse, though feed conversion is better.
Mind you, the vast majority of people consoom as much as they can afford. Your average environmentalist isn't at all averse to some vacation in australia if he can afford it. Singling out isolated cases of consumption like red meat is nonsense. I'm just pointing out the facts here, and the reason red meat is denigrated.

I'm aware of that, but that doesn't mean that raising beef is resource intensive, it just means that our kiked out economic model that ensures a select group of corporations can control the food supply is resource intensive and that we need to fight for pasture raised grass fed beef from small local farms instead of corn fed globohomo factory cows.

Wow, so a cow converts 32 kg of for human indegestible material into a kg of delicious nutritious meat.
Amazing use of ressources.
ANd yes, beef IS grass (or grass/plant product) fed! That is guaranteed by their bodily requirements. Cows need to be fed grass/hay/silage or other cellulose material. Otherwise they DIE. You CAN'T feed a cow more than a very small amount of "power food" such as grains, by far the majority MUST be those for humans useless waste products, often from oil plants.
When harvesting rapeseed you bring the harvest into the oil mill, extract the like 15% of oil in the plant - and the remaining parts? Those oil press cakes go to the cows as food.
This simple fact about their anatomy always shows how utterly retarded those graphs always are.
If anything the graph has one message: Eat more beef instead of pork. Pigs are omnivores, so THEY can be fed with food that would also be human-consumable, which in varying amounts happens. Highly depends, is it human-grade grain or those animal feed grains that are only grown where the better grain would not grow?
HUman grade grains are usually sold for human use because they get a higher price, animal food prices are laughable in comparison.
